Chapter 2158: After all, I am...
Lex had literally been turned into a meatball from the pressure he felt from the void, and yet that felt like less pressure than he got from Paul at the moment. It was not the fact that the man had somehow landed himself an Elf over which massive battles were being fought. No, it was the sincerity with which he asked questions about what he did with girls.
Honestly, there weren’t even that many girls in Lex’s life. There was Vera, who was partially crazy, but she was totally committed to an Oolin she hadn’t even met yet.
Then there was Mary, who was probably older than Lex’s entire ancestry inside the Origin realm. Heck, she might even be older than the entire Origin realm itself, not to mention the fact that Lex was pretty sure she used to have a family. So if the immense age difference was not a turn off, the likely existing family - and the minor issue about her not having a physical body - would be roadblocks.
Then there was Giselle. The somewhat messed up childhood was not such a big deal, honestly. As far as cultivators went, being abducted and trained from childhood by an evil cult-like organisation upon which she was now seeking revenge was surprisingly common.
But the thing was that she was busy with her stuff, and he was busy with his stuff. They had a few nice moments, but they only met once every few years.
Considering their infinite lifespan, that was quite normal. In fact, that was the normal pace for most Immortals. However, that was the normal pace for most cultivators who were thousands of years old - not young, 25 year olds like him.
Now that Lex was somewhat confident in his own strength, and felt a little less pressure, he finally began to think about such things.
He wondered, should he try to pursue Giselle and see how that goes? Or should he try to search for someone else?
He wasn’t too concerned about the cultivation talent of his partner. As long as they were immortal, that would be good enough. It wasn’t like he would date someone for utilitarian purposes.
It was while Lex pondered these exceptionally serious concerns that they reached the Tsu galaxy. The teleportation wasn’t too difficult for Lex, but it would have been an extremely unpleasant experience for Paul if Lex hadn’t put a few barriers around his body to protect him from the pressure of traveling through space.
The two of them did not exit the Minor realm just yet, waiting for Yamato to reach a safe place before they exited. What they didn’t expect was only a couple of minutes after reaching the Tsu galaxy, Yamato entered the realm himself.
"I have bad news. The Evergreen Lancers have been besieged by an Insectoid army, and they’re trying to create a new blackhole. The situation is not looking good. A few waves of reinforcements have been sent already but there’s been no progress," he said, sounding extremely concerned.
Lex’s expression became extremely solemn as he listened to the old geezer.
"Do you know the details of the siege? The location and number of enemies?" Lex asked.
Yamato nodded, already anticipating such a question.
"At first I thought that this was a result of the High Elves bounty, but I doubt it now. The Evergreen Lancers is a strong army with almost twenty Celestial Immortals, over three thousand Heaven Immortals and about twenty thousand Earth Immortals. They rely mostly on their cooperative formations in combat, acting as one cohesive whole rather than individual units.
"Typically, that makes them a formidable force far stronger than just twenty Celestials. But this time, they are being attacked by nearly a hundred Celestial Immortals. Their location is of strategic value, so if the insectoid army succeeds in creating a black hole there, the damage and loss will be incalculable.
"The Henali have already ordered reinforcements to prevent the black hole, but the armies are stretched thin. The arrival of 100 unexpected Celestials has taken everyone by surprise, and mounting a successful rescue mission is extremely hard. It will take a few months before we can gather enough-"
Lex put his mask back on and waved his hand.
"I get the gist of the situation. Thanks for bringing me this far, old geezer. Your son is doing well inside the Inn, so feel free to drop by any time you want. Although the Inn is sealed off for now, that won’t be the case for too long. Or, even if it stays sealed, I can find a way to make an exception for you if you wish."
Yamato shook his head.
"There’s no need for that. Let Kenta stay at the Inn, it’s much safer than it is here. I can’t afford to leave either. What about you? Are you still planning on going to Mei?"
Lex chuckled.
"Of course. Don’t be intimidated by the numbers. Yeah, a hundred Celestial Immortals are tough to beat, but taking on a hundred Celestial Immortals one at a time should not be an issue. I’ve noticed they don’t really fight to the death - one decent injury and they run for the hills."
Yamato did not know how to respond to such a statement, especially since he had already seen Lex injure six Celestial Immortals together. However, a war was not typically something a single individual could change. Celestial Immortals would not line up and wait to be taken down by Lex. But he was certain Lex knew that as well, so he surely had a plan.
Lex and Paul left the Minor realm, and then immediately started to travel across the karmic string connecting Paul and Mei.
"Hey Lex, do you have a plan?" Paul asked anxiously. As a mere mortal, he could not even comprehend the scale at which this upcoming battle would be fought. He’d heard too many things about how powerful Lex was, but he still couldn’t help but ask, hoping to hear a reassuring answer.
"I do not need a plan to take on some feeble Immortals," Lex answered, his voice dripping with overwhelming confidence. "After all, I am the best."
