The Innkeeper

Chapter 2176: Major problem

Chapter 2176: Major problem

The Innkeeper ignored the Mentholians that were rolling around on the table in front of him. Instead, his focus was on the small piece of budding Heaven that the turtle was building.

The fact that the Gardener seemed to be spontaneously changing his race was not the issue that was bothering the turtle, though Lex didn’t know how to feel about that.

The Gardener was one of the earliest workers he hired, back when his naming sense was... not quite up to his current standards. For him to suddenly become an Angel just felt... well okay he had no strong feelings about it as long as the Gardener himself did not mind.

Lex took stock of the Heaven. There were a few Deity bushes, providing Divine energy to the Heaven, while many of the Heavenly trees were also growing.

There was the Bodhi tree, the Peach tree of Immortality, the Tree of Life and so on. There were also a number of extremely rare, yet non-divine trees as well, such as the Void Stabilisation Sequoia tree, which is what the first tavern Lex had made himself was built out of.

As the basic structure of a Heaven was slowly being established, things began to change. First of all, beings of light and pure energy started to be born around the trees to protect them - the first of the Elysians. Although they were not actual Elysians just yet, they would sooner or later reach that level. For now they could be considered psudo-Elysians at best.

They were becoming a minor problem considering they would attack anyone lacking divine energy within their territory. After all, they did not yet have proper sentience and just operated on instincts.

The major problem, however, was that despite the turtle planting all of the trees with perfect synergy for their growth, as they began to mature, their divine aspects began to clash with one another. Each one of these trees, individually, belonged to a Heaven each. Basically, that meant that a normal Heaven would normally only support one Heavenly tree.

Lex was certain that somewhere in the universe exceptions existed. However, even the exceptions likely did not have as many Heavenly trees as the Galactic Sovereign turtle was gathering. In fact, these weren’t even all the trees it wanted to collect!

The chaos caused by the clashing divinity of the trees would destroy any chances of Heaven being formed. Oh, it also created independent groups of those psudo-Elysians who were loyal to their own respective trees, and had begun to more or less wage war against the other psudo-Elysians in an attempt to destroy the other trees and give their own trees dominance.

No matter how good of a gardener the turtle was, nor how influential its Sovereign capabilities, this natural occurrence was not something it could permanently stop.

It did try to stop the psudo-Elysians, and it worked for a time. But because that was just how the laws related to Heavens developed, the effect of the Sovereigns command would quickly fade.

After all, no matter how much the universe loved Sovereigns, it could not reverse the way the universe operated based on their whims. It could, at most, temporarily alter those operations.

"I am not too sure, but I have a plan," said the turtle with conviction. Upon hearing that, Lex nearly sighed even in his Innkeeper form. He remembered the last time the turtle executed a plan. It was when they went to meet Zuri and help her evolve from a four leaf clover into a Bodhi tree.

That was... truly an eye opening experience for him about how ridiculously powerful Sovereigns were. Even a bad plan made by a Sovereign would end up working just because of how much the universe favored them. Lex could not even imagine how powerful a truly competent and focused Sovereign could be.

Fortunately, both the Sovereigns he had met - the turtle and Nemo - had quirky yet friendly personalities.

"What exactly is your plan?" the Innkeeper asked.

The turtle bobbed his head as he thought about everything in his mind.

"First, we will need to collect nine Heavenly trees and plant them all to maturity," the turtle said, ignoring the difficulty of such a task. "Then we will use the naturally growing tree that is fed by the laws of this realm to subdue all nine of them, forming a ten point formation using all the trees.

"The other nine trees will support the tree that is naturally of this realm, allowing the laws of this realm to suppress the laws of the developing Heaven, creating a relationship of direct hierarchy."

Lex was stunned, and focused on the turtle. Had it just provided... a borderline coherent plan?

No wait, it wasn’t just borderline. It could actually work. Was the turtle finally growing up?

Lex looked at the massive baby with metaphorical tears in his eyes. How quickly turtles grow up.

He had first encountered the turtle back when he was 25, and barely starting the Inn. Now, decades later, though Lex was still 25, the turtle had finally grown!

"How exactly do you plan on getting the remaining trees?" the Innkeeper asked, curiously.

The turtle looked oddly at the Innkeeper.

"Oh dear, isn’t that what you’re here for? I can’t do everything for you, now can I? You have to do some work too," the turtle said as he began to turn around, leaving the Innkeeper to figure out how to get his hands on the remaining trees.

Lex suppressed his lip from twitching.

"Fine, I’ll look into getting the trees, but I need those Star Dust Dandelions in ten years. If you can manage that, then I’ll get you your trees," the Innkeeper said.

Now it was the turtles turn to be stunned. How could he grow dandelions that took a thousand years in just ten?

Actually, that was an interesting challenge. Maybe if he...

The turtle walked out of the Innkeepers office, already lost in thought about how to achieve his next task.

The Innkeeper looked down at his desk, which was covered in Mentholians rolling around, and finally let out a sigh. It was time to get to work.
