Chapter 2509: Solution
Chapter 2509: Solution
A month passed peacefully, and while the residents of the Inn felt no difference, for too many beings across the universe that was an incredibly stressful month. The many ongoing wars had more or less dwindled out.
Though, truthfully, by the time the Nexus event happened most wars had already ceased. The only ones ongoing were the ones being orchestrated by the Dao Congress with their aim to destroy countless realms. In the end, 2999 Major realms remained, and with the Origin realm in the process of becoming a Major realm, it would become the 3000th before the universe transitioned completely.
The other wars had ceased mainly because the attacking forces had either been teleported to the Dream realm, or had gone of their own volition enticed by the Dream Arena. Once there, too many Dao Lords had died at random, leaving many forces weakened.
Originally, the Sage races were the ones who were largely untouched, making them the most powerful races in the universe - even more so than before. However for reasons no one knew, many of the Sage races voluntarily gave up control of some realms at random.
At the same time, countless races and powers did their best to latch onto preexisting powers so that their Immature realms could either gain their protection, or so that they could immigrate to Major realms. By now, anyone with a certain level of power had found out about the precarious situation that Immature realms were in.
Of course, Lex knew none of that. His sole source of universal news were two rhinocentaurs, and they were too weak to get access to any really significant news at this point. Even though the Inn started to support their cultivation so that they would grow stronger, their status within their chatroom was something they could raise themselves. Moreover, they couldn’t share that news with anyone at the Inn either.
So, for now, they could provide incredibly basic information and rumor, but little concrete news.
The Midnight Inn, as an organization, was spared from the pleading of those countless smaller organizations for two fundamental reasons. First, access to the Inn was restricted through the Origin realm for the moment, and they couldn’t enter the Origin realm to begin with.
But even if they couldn’t enter, it was not impossible to initiate contact anyway. The second reason the Inn was spared was that the Inn itself existed in an Immature realm. Even if the Innkeeper had a way to protect his realm, no one knew of it. Mere speculation was not enough for them to throw away their lives while risking the existence of their entire race or organisation.
Thus, no one tried to bother the Innkeeper - they were too busy trying to survive.
Lex, unaware of the blessing, focused solely on finding a solution to his teleportation issue, and actually succeeded.
After one whole month of studying his systems operations, Lex found a solution, and it was a pretty simple one too. He would only need to personally intervene for a very short period of time while the system itself did the rest.
The solution was to feed his system the Debt system!
Lex had been studying both of them so that he could compare how they were similar and how they were different in an effort to increase his understanding of their functionality. In the process, Lex figured out that using Domination, he could influence which of the Debt systems features the Midnight Inn system absorbed, and Lex wanted only two specifically!
The first feature he wanted was the ability to allow his guests to have a certain amount of credit depending on their Prestige levels. The second feature was to be able to lock onto anyone with a debt to the Inn.
Lex also discovered an ability called Debt transfer, but as much as he would have liked to get it, it conflicted too much with the Midnight Inns operations. Guests could pay each other’s tabs or bills if they wished, but no guest could transfer their tab to anyone else. This was a hard line which protected his other guests, and the Inn would not adopt any feature which was potentially harmful to his guests, so he could only give up on that.
Regardless, once someone had a debt, the Inn could track them and use that to form a connection to the realm they were in. It wasn’t a perfect solution - far from it - but it’s the simplest and most viable solution Lex had been able to come up with.
He was slightly regretful that he couldn’t keep the Debt system to study it a little longer. But he didn’t dwell on it too long. So what if he lost it? Even though it was the strongest system he had encountered so far besides his own, that did not mean he wouldn’t find other equally strong, or even stronger systems in the future.
Thus, without any further deliberation, Lex chose to feed his system. It might even push his system functionality from 97% all the way to 100! Who knew?
New Notification: Debt system detected. Absorb to repair system? Y/N?
New Notification: S rank Debt system absorbed. System interface will temporarily go dormant for 24 - 72 hours.
Remarks: Withholding sustenance is a violation of basic civil rights!
Even though the system entered a state of dormancy, wherein Lex could not command or control the system, he was not really worried. For one, this wasn’t the first time such a thing had happened. Secondly, he was more than capable of handling any problems that might pop up.
Instead, he just cozied himself on his cultivation chair - the Gabana fruit - and began observing how the system changed. He needed to make sure the system absorbed the right features, so he couldn’t relax just yet.
The process would last only a few days, and to Lex that was not a big deal at all. He did not rest or distract himself. If he could learn how the system repaired itself, he might be able to replicate that in his own fake system that he was building.
