Chapter 431: Zhou Lin (2)
Chapter 431: Chapter 431: Zhou Lin (2)
He walked over to the cabinet, opened it, and saw the neatly arranged exquisite antiques inside.
"Tsk."
He whispered a "tsk" and casually picked up a porcelain piece from the bottom. He examined it carefully; it truly was an antique!
Afterward, he cautiously put it back and returned to the bedroom.
In the master bedroom, Shi Jie was holding Zhou Lin, consoling her softly.
Zhou Lin felt a heaviness in her heart, but she knew this was the best way to resolve the issues between them.
Rather than raising her brother-in-law’s child, she’d rather adopt a stranger’s child.
How could she not know what her brother-in-law and his family were thinking?
They were just after her and her parents’ assets.
Now that she had adopted a child, they could no longer send their own child over.
In the following days, Zhou Lin felt all sorts of discomfort.
Suddenly having another child in the house completely disrupted her and Shi Jie’s lifestyle.
During the day, Zhou Lin and Shi Jie needed to go to work, but the child hadn’t been enrolled in kindergarten yet.
Shi Jie had no choice but to ask the in-laws to help look after the child during the day.
Since Zhou Lin was an only child, Father Zhou and Mrs. Zhou owned several properties. When Zhou Lin and Shi Jie got married, Father Zhou and Mrs. Zhou let them live in the house closest to them.
The travel distance was only twenty minutes.
And now, since both Father Zhou and Mrs. Zhou were retired, they could help look after the child.
As for their son-in-law’s request, they were more than willing. After all, this child was now their daughter’s child too, which made him their grandson.
"So annoying, those two old fools talk too much every day, always hovering around me. I can’t have any free time!"
At that moment, only Shi Jie and Shi Ming were at home.
Shi Jie looked coldly at the boy, "Did you poison them?"
The boy snorted coldly, "Of course I did, otherwise why would those two old fools go to the hospital today?"
Shi Jie: "Will the hospital find out?"
The boy waved his hand, "Don’t worry, they can’t detect our poison.
But, we’ll need to do it two more times."
Shi Jie nodded, "No problem, after they get discharged, continue to visit them and find an opportunity to poison them again."
The boy crossed his arms, looking at Shi Jie coldly, "What about your wife?"
Shi Jie: "She’s got me here, don’t worry about her."
The boy: "Huh, alright, but hurry up. I really don’t want to stay at your place for too long!"
Shi Jie impatiently said, "Got it, just do your job right."
The boy snorted disdainfully.
While Zhou Lin and Father Zhou and Mrs. Zhou were getting their check-ups at the hospital, the police found them and pulled them aside for a talk.
"What did you say? Shi Jie wants to harm me?!"
Zhou Lin stared at the police officer in disbelief.
Father Zhou and Mrs. Zhou were also confused, looking warily at the strangers before them.
The police officer gestured for the three to sit and patiently explained to them.
After hearing what the police had to say, Zhou Lin and Mrs. Zhou’s faces turned pale.
Father Zhou furrowed his brows, his expression cold.
He was clearly calmer than his daughter and wife. He looked at the police officer and asked, "Officer, since you’ve found out so much, why don’t you just arrest them?"
The police officer looked at Father Zhou, "Currently, the evidence we have only proves a transaction between Shi Jie and the Dwarf.
And since you haven’t suffered any serious harm yet, if they’re arrested now, they might not face severe punishment..."
"Moreover, our department wants to catch that Dwarf to uncover the organization he’s involved with..."
"So, we hope the three of you can cooperate with us."
Then, the officer recounted the various crimes the Dwarf had committed in recent years.
Father Zhou and Mrs. Zhou, after listening, turned to look at their daughter.
Zhou Lin’s mind went blank. She couldn’t fathom that her husband was scheming with criminals to kill her and her parents.
Why?
...
"Honey, tonight you stay home with Mingming, I’ll stay over at my parents’ place."
Shi Jie asked nervously, "How did Dad and Mom’s check-up go today? Are they okay?"
Listening to her husband’s worried tone, Zhou Lin found it hard to believe he was faking it.
Father Zhou, beside her, patted her hand, bringing Zhou Lin back to her senses, trying hard to calm herself.
"They’re fine. The doctor said they’re just old, with slightly high blood pressure and some heart issues. They prescribed some medication, and suggested monitoring them at home for a while."
"We’ll go back to the hospital for a follow-up in a week."
Upon hearing Zhou Lin’s words, Shi Jie’s lips curled, though his tone remained concerned.
"Alright, let them rest well. Tonight, Mingming and I won’t visit them, I’ll go over tomorrow instead."
Zhou Lin frowned, thinking of that child. It made her uncomfortable.
"With their health issues, take him to school tomorrow before you go to work. They’re not able to watch him for now, or find a school that would take him temporarily."
After hearing what the police said, Zhou Lin didn’t want her parents to suffer any harm.
Shi Jie hesitated, "The schools are strict now, and Mingming isn’t registered legally yet, so the schools won’t accept him.
I also can’t watch him, you know how busy I am and can’t take care of him.
Could you let Dad and Mom watch him for a few more days until we get him registered, and then..."
"No way!"
Zhou Lin flatly refused.
Seeing his daughter losing control, Father Zhou quickly chimed in, "It’s alright, Xiao Jie, bring Mingming over tomorrow. Your mother and I are fine; we can manage."
Zhou Lin caught her father’s gaze, feeling anxious but unable to voice it.
After hanging up, Zhou Lin immediately said, "Dad, that’s a Dwarf, not a child. What if he has evil intentions?"
Father Zhou patted her shoulder, signaling her to calm down.
"Don’t worry, there’ll be police tomorrow. We won’t be in any danger."
The police had promised earlier to send a young officer to act as a protector close by for their safety tomorrow.
Zhou Lin looked at her father, "Dad, Shi Jie..."
Father Zhou: "Linlin, the police have already shown you the evidence. If you still trust Shi Jie now, aren’t you just handing your life over to him?"
"You are our only daughter, which means everything we have is yours.
Shi Jie was too good at pretending. Your mother and I were even thinking about helping him advance in his career.
For years, your mother and I treated Shi Jie like our own son. As long as he treated you well, we were willing to do anything."
"But now, he colludes with others to plot against your mother, myself, and you."
"Now, I’m questioning whether there’s something he’s done to prevent you from having children!"
At those words, Zhou Lin abruptly looked up.
Not having children had impacted her greatly.
Whether facing relatives or coworkers, she’d endured countless strange looks, looks of pity, looks of contempt...
