Chapter 2056: Feel What I Feel
Chapter 2056: Feel What I Feel
All of the High Millinars have their own legion to lead, and they were scattered across their High Lords’ territory and even beyond to handle specific matters. High Millinars are the elites, people who were not only strong but also trustworthy.
Out of her peers, High Millinar Angela knew High Millinar Vlaos the most.
Not only did she like him the most, but she also worked together with him the most.
It was no exaggeration to assume that she knew High Millinar Vlaos’ personality the most.
And she was certain that there was no world—or reality where High Millinar Vlaos would lay his hand on his comrades unless he was forced to do that by High Lord Ursa. Right now, with the Purgation Duel ongoing, it didn’t make sense for High Lord Ursa to tell him to harm High Lord Julas.
So, there can only be one explanation.
"Someone is controlling him!" She exclaimed in horror.
"What...?" High Millinar Julas gasped in shock, even though his voice came out weak. "How?"
High Lord Ursa had prepared for all scenarios.
For anything that might happen during the Purgation Duel, he prepared countermeasures. Mind control was one of the most devastating things that could happen—as that would level the playing field more and more, making it even.
Naturally, it was mandatory to prepare for such a thing.
Every High Millinar under him was given a mark inside the mind, a Crux of Law, drawn from the Law of Mind, to resist any form of mind control and possession. One of High Lord Ursa’s friends possessed that Law, and with it, none of them could be controlled.
None of them could become a puppet.
Somehow, someone got through that Law and got High Millinar Vlaos.
But High Millinar Angela didn’t want to believe that.
"Vlaos!" She called his name desperately. "What are you doing?! You won’t harm us. You know us!"
No answer.
She bit her lower lip and tried again, more desperately.
"Vlaos! Answer me, goddamn it! Whatever got to you, you can fight it!" She paused. "I know you can!"
Meanwhile, in the seats high above, the spectators were taken aback by what they were seeing.
"How is this possible? What did he do?" A woman stared down at High Millinar Vlaos—entirely shocked to see that such a powerful Awakened Demigod with a Crux of Law got mind-controlled. "Can anyone explain this?!"
She turned to High Lord Axarana, "High Lord, you’re the one with the Law!"
Everyone around wasn’t disturbed by her shock.
Considering that the Law of Mind was from the Primary Order—its strength rivalled even Major Laws from the Null or even Lower Order. Only Laws of a higher order would be able to overpower it, and even then, it still depended on the person’s divinity points.
Only a big enough gap could allow this to work.
And since Rex had already boasted of his strength, his divinity wasn’t that much stronger than the others.
Something like this should be impossible for him to do.
"Sigh..." High Lord Axarana massaged his forehead. "He didn’t overpower the Law of Mind."
"What?" the woman frowned. "Then how could he do this?"
"High Millinar Vlaos... is already dead. Rex attacked his spirituality, the intangible form of the mind, and killed him through that. Now that he’s dead, the Law of Mind was no more. Rex was controlling a corpse, not a man."
A collective gasp spread across the entire spectators.
From the very start, Rex had only been showing abilities that heavily leaned toward raw strength.
It was clear to everyone that he won through overwhelming physical might, while his other abilities were supportive abilities to help him kill his enemies with his claws. None of them expected him to use such an intricate ability.
An ability that didn’t fit the monstrous ruffian he was.
Slowly, unease began to spread across the spectators.
Everyone had sided with High Lord Ursa, pushed by historical facts that he had always been the one to come out on top. But now, seeing how powerful Rex was, there was a real chance that High Lord Rashal would become the one who came out on top.
And that thought scared them.
In that future, their territories would suffer immensely.
High Lord Rashal would absorb everything High Lord Ursa has—his estates, armies, businesses, all of the things within his territory. And that would put them in an extremely risky situation. But one among them didn’t care.
No, it wasn’t indifference.
He had already taken the risk of opposing High Lord Ursa, so this was good news for him.
High Lord Leenim stared down at Rex, eyes narrowing.
’That explains how he bypassed the Law of Mind—but High Millinar Vlaos’ corpse...’ He leaned his body forward, and his gaze sharpened, catching something wrong with the body. ’Even dead, his energy should not be wiped clean. There should be remnants. Traces of something. Not to mention his Laws... But there was nothing. And why do I sense an energy identical to Rex’s coming from him?’
Nothing made sense.
Many questions left unanswered.
And it seemed the questions always revolved around Rex.
’I know of High Lord Rashal’s reputation. Others deemed him arrogant, but he’s not. Coming from the bottom, he has nothing but indifference or perhaps disdain to the other High Lords—who inherited their positions. He loathed the others more than he was arrogant. He has a military background, too.’
High Lord Leenim stared at Rex intently, and his lips curled into a smile.
One that even surprised his wife, who was sitting beside him, as she rarely saw him smile like this.
’But it was precisely because of those things that he could see hidden superpowers.’
Since High Lord Rashal came from nothing, he has a more positive view of those who were weaker or unfortunate, allowing him to see potential better. Additionally, with his military background, there was also his acute intuition.
Having to fight High Lord Ursa for years had already alerted him of a possible clash.
Naturally, his senses to find ways to survive were activated.
Luck brought Rex to his territory, and he made use of that lack to his advantage.
Rex was the key that he needed to win the Purgation Duel.
’I applaud you, High Lord Rashal.’ High Lord Leenim thought inside.
On the other hand, above, the Cluster Custodian was also watching what was going on underneath.
Just like the others—he watched Rex overpower High Millinar Vlaos, who was left alone with the beast, and then took over his corpse. But the Cluster Custodian wasn’t surprised about how Rex was somehow able to bypass the Law of Mind.
Many others could do that.
Instead, his attention was on the humming mark on the back of High Millinar Vlaos’ neck.
’What is that mark?’ He thought inwardly. ’I couldn’t sense his connection to the Overseer anymore.’
Every single Demigod—who was born within the Primordial Meadow would automatically become an extension of the Overseer of Realms. No exceptions. And to reach the position High Millinar Vlaos was occupying, he would need to be under the Overseer.
No other Gods.
Only then could he be trusted to hold such a high position.
But then, after Rex formed that mark on his nape, that connection to the Overseer disappeared.
Now, High Millinar Vlaos’ corpse became an empty husk.
And that was something the Cluster Custodian had very rarely witnessed. Most who managed to achieve such a feat were beings that are far stronger than Rex. So, this came as a surprise. ’Scions... Scions are really something, aren’t they? No wonder many Gods, including the Overseer, avoided them.’
Back down to the small island.
"Angela..." High Millinar Julas groaned as a fragment hidden underneath his clothing shattered. It was a life-saving treasure that recovered his heart to normal. "Don’t do anything rash. He... He’s gone already."
"No..." She shook her head strongly. "We can still save him somehow."
High Millinar Angela stared at High Millinar Vlaos with a heavy heart.
It was clear that he was already no more.
Out of everyone, she was the one who knew him the most. And for him to harm his comrade—and then stab High Millinar Julas using his bare hand instead of summoning a weapon to do that was already proof enough that he was no longer with them.
High Millinar Vlaos is dead.
But she refused to believe it—her mind and heart didn’t let her.
SPLASH—!
Just then, something landed a distance away from the small island, smashing into the dark ocean.
A column of water rose, and when it fell back down again, a figure was revealed.
"Now you feel what I feel..." Rex slowly rose to his feet again, and his cold crimson eyes stared directly into High Millinar Angela. Fixing all his attention on her. "Feel the burn... The tightness in your chest. Feel the uncertainty that gnawed at your mind like a maggot hollowing your brain and heart, making you go insane as time goes by.
"No matter how small the chances are, you’d clung to hope that there’s a way to save someone you care about. It was a natural response at a loss. Denial. Remember the feeling... In the future, no, in your next life, make sure to never laugh at someone who experienced this pain."
Hearing this, tears drizzled down High Millinar Angela’s face.
"You did all of this for that?" Her eyes bulged as anger rose to her chest. "Because I laughed?!"
It was a well-known fact that nobody came back alive or the same after entering the Chaos Realm.
Nobody.
Seeing Rex calling for whoever he was calling back then reminded her of that fact, and she chuckled as it was a foolish act to hope for the impossible. And in retaliation, to repay for that chuckle, Rex went to the extreme and rendered High Millinar Vlaos to this state.
Earlier, while he was being pummelled, he wasn’t letting them do that to test their strengths.
No—he was letting them attack him to pay attention to their interaction.
Rex had simply been waiting, searching—for the person whose suffering would wound High Millinar Angela most. And he found it. It was High Millinar Vlaos. The proof was in how she never grew angry, no matter how loudly Vlaos shouted or screamed at her.
A bond.
Romantical? It didn’t look that way. Camaraderie? Maybe. But Rex believed it was familial.
Having fought side by side for centuries made them grow closer like a family.
Maybe it didn’t work like that with the other High Millinars, but it did with him.
Someone of her caliber would at least feel annoyed, but there was nothing like that on her face.
It was clear that she was closest to High Millinar Vlaos.
And those assumptions Rex had were proven to be right, seeing how she was crying right now. Making a battle-hardened warrior like her cry is extremely hard, and he was certain now that it was a familial bond.
Either way, Rex was able to get what he wanted. Revenge.
Rex’s face contorted savagely. "Seems like you still don’t understand."
"I only laughed! It was inappropriate and cruel—but you don’t have to do this!" High Millinar Angela’s voice breaks, unable to hold the pain. "You could’ve done it to me! I’m the one who offended you, so you should’ve killed me!"
"Now that it involved someone you cared about, what I did was wrong?" Rex laughed. He used the new skill he had, Moon Calling, turning one of the full moons bigger as Aylith’s presence grew stronger. And then, he activated the Heresy Mark, shattering the corpse into divinity for his replenishment. "For your transgression, for offending me, naturally, the punishment can only be dictated by me. Not you."
"If you have a problem with it," Rex spread his arms as the divinity seeped into his body, increasing his divine points. Power surged through his body, pushing him to greater heights. "I’m right... here."
