Chapter 2075 Crystal Tree
Chapter 2075 Crystal Tree
A terrifyingly compatible power.
No other powers out there could fit Diamantona this perfectly, like an old glove.
He was a man hell-bent on believing that he was the only person who understood how cruel the universe would be in the future. It didn’t matter how strong someone became. In his mind, the universe’s triumph was inevitable, and a terrible time of darkness would swallow everyone.
As the one who understood this, he felt a sense of responsibility on his shoulders.
As someone burdened with knowledge, he would do what he needed to do.
In order to spare everyone from that terrible darkness that loomed in the future, he would be the one to shoulder the responsibility of killing everyone—without pain. Doing so would be mercy; that was what he believed.
But this was nothing more than the prophecy of a madman.
Someone too broken to believe that the universe could still create goodness.
Despite this delusion, Diamantona wielded the Major Law of Killing Crystal.
A power that grew stronger and stronger—with every killing blow it landed. A power that would revel in being wielded by someone like Diamantona. Such a power had no morals. So long as its wielder was actively seeking to kill, it would grow stronger.
Rex looked up at the crystal canopy above and sucked in a deep breath.
He could feel his body growing heavier and heavier as it was pressed down by an invisible might.
One that came from this crystal tree.
How many people had he killed in order to make his Major Law this strong?
For once—Rex couldn’t believe what he was experiencing right now. Even when he was already in his Lycan Form, his knees were shaking, hardly able to hold his own body weight under this pressure. Such pressure was unthinkable.
During his preparations before the Purgation Duel, there was a faint thought that he might’ve overdone it. Evolving his bloodline, mastering his control over immortal energy—and also becoming the one and only champion of the Greater Moon seemed to be more than enough preparation.
It was a whisper in the back of his mind.
But he had thought that perhaps he would obliterate Diamantona in the Purgation Duel.
He was multiple times stronger than when he met with Diamantona for the first time.
At this point, there would not be a fight.
Rex would kill Diamantona with one move and settle the Purgation Duel in a breeze.
However, reality proved that he was wrong. Dead wrong. It was absolutely necessary for him to do the extra legwork in his preparations when he was fighting another Scion of the Vertex. Underestimating an entity like that would only be courting death.
Fortunately, he didn’t underestimate Diamantona at all.
His third crystal eye opened.
Rex’s eyes narrowed at the slit on Diamantona’s forehead and the two underneath each eye.
It seemed to be a limiter that held back his power.
And now, with the third crystal slit opened, there were no longer any limiters holding Diamantona back.
Swoosh—!
Rex snapped his head skyward.
Above, the crystal canopy began to make a crackling sound; a sound like hard ice melting against warm water in the North Pole. It was a hiss, a po—and then a groan of something vast beginning to stir. And then, Rex caught sight of a few crystals poking out of each thick arm that came out of the main body.
Each reached out and into branches.
Each formed a lattice of crystalline limbs that spread across the sky like the veins of a frozen God.
Or rather, the veins of the Goddess of Dark Nature.
He didn’t know what this meant. But he could tell from the building immortal energy in the crystal tree that Diamantona was activating something catastrophically strong. Something he didn’t want to know. Not even the slightest.
Crack—!
Rex lowered his stance, cracking the crystal floor underneath him.
In his mind, a single thought crystallized.
I need to stop him.
But before he could make his move, Diamantona had already moved.
His crystal lance spread into a banner above his head, a wide, shimmering sheet of crimson crystal that pulsed with an inner light. And then it spat. Hundreds of lances1each one a needle of death, screamed through the air toward Rex.
Each crystal lance grew mid-flight, growing three more sharp points.
And a red orb shimmered in its body.
Rex reacted at an impossible speed, casting the Primordial Step and the Voidal Moonflow Acceleration at the same time. He went from stationary to blinding in barely a second; his body turned into a blur of black and silver.
He avoided the barrage, sliding across the crystal floor—his feet carving sparks from the surface.
Mid-slide, the ground shook underneath him.
He snapped his gaze to the side. The crystal lances had exploded into a devouring crystal cluster—that spread across the crystal floor, a creeping tide of jagged growths that chased after him. Rex’s animalistic eyes flashed with lightning.
He channeled lightning into his Red Dawn of Kaiser and cast the Sharp Lightning again before throwing a thin lightning streak imbued with the fire element. Its body heated up with an orange glow—turning into a meteor as it pierced through the crystal cluster.
Those that were drilled exploded thunderously, shards flying in every direction.
But he was given no time to breathe.
The barrage came again—along with the spreading crystal that moved like waves, trying to catch him, to swallow him, to trap him. Rex fired another lightning streak from his hand—and then rolled forward to avoid the barrage.
Crystal shards exploded around him, forcing him to raise his arms.
But the barrage spun around, a living thing, and struck his side.
"Krrhk!"
Each one exploded upon impact, stabbing through his skin and into his veins. Crystal veins.
They branched inside his body, spreading through his flesh like frost through a windowpane. Rex gritted his sharp teeth. Another barrage knocked him from the side—and then the crystal wave reached him, swallowing him whole.
For a moment, there was nothing but crystal.
Nothing but cold. Nothing but the sensation of being buried alive.
Just then a burst of lightning exploded from within.
Blitz—!
Rex shattered everything around him—a detonation of black lightning that turned the crystal wave into a spray of molten shards. He looked up again—and saw the crystal tree was beginning to actually look like a living tree, and dread spread across his chest.
As he panted, his wounds closed up at an unnerving speed.
In a range battle, Diamantona still has the edge. He could stay there and overwhelm me like this.
Glancing to the side, Rex moved against as the crystal waves returned.
"Ether Blink!"
Crack—!
A lightning strike descended from above and took Rex away, but before he could even reach far, another crystal lance intercepted him and opened up into a shield. Rex slammed against it hard and dropped to the crystal floor once again.
He gritted his teeth harder in frustration.
It was clear that Diamantona was occupying him while the crystal tree was forming.
Seeing the Ether Blink and how hard it was to stop him once he gained momentum, Diamantona would not let him rise to the sky again. Before Rex could even do anything, a crystal lance managed to sneak through and stabbed his back.
"Krrgh!"
Rex ignored it, but he realized that he couldn’t.
<Notice: the Law of Pain has affected the user!>
Not even hesitating at all, he activated the Law of Inevitability and Misdirection.
His body was cleansed by the two Laws as the Law of Pain shattered.
But that still took five seconds to do, and the crystal tree was closer to completion.
Blitz—!
Rex pointed his hand at Diamantona and cast the Sky Imprisonment Ultimate Spell.
CRACK—!
Almost immediately, the roar of lightning cracked through the air.
Three dragon-shaped lightning strikes slipped through the crystal canopy and bit onto Diamantona. The main crystal lance moved, protecting him, intercepting the dragons, but Rex didn’t care. He cast another spell—the Two Weighted Pyramids.
He infused it with lightning and lunar element to bolster its sealing capability.
Out of thin air, two pyramids manifested around Diamantona, trapping him at the center like he was the sarcophagus of a pharaoh. And then, dark element began to crawl into existence on its surface, heavily bolstering its defense.
Around, the air grew heavy and the pressure mounted.
All of this was done while Rex was dodging the barrage and the crystal waves.
He landed on the ground hard, his leg muscles bulging, and launched straight at Diamantona.
Naturally, the spells were not meant to kill—they were meant to distract. Enough to create an opening in the relentless attacks Rex was defending from so that he could turn the tables. And soon—that opening came.
Just a fraction of a second, but it was enough.
But mid-air, his pupils widened.
A thick, lustering red crystal lance pierced through the chaos and went straight for his forehead. It was faster and stronger than the others. Rex still had many Life Points to spare, but his first death was simply a test of his new skill.
Now that he knew how it worked, there was no need for him to let himself be killed again.
Clang—!
Rex’s burning red eyes snapped towards the crystal lance, activating the Absolute Anger Effect.
A translucent barrier blocked the crystal lance before it could stab his forehead.
But then another one came.
Faster and even stronger than the first one.
Rex’s eyes widened as he tilted his body in a whim—but pain lanced through his body as the lance was able to pierce through his shoulder. His body was hurled sideways from the impact as a snarl was forced out of him.
Fuck!
His eyes snapped toward Diamantona, who had already broken free from all restraints.
I got too desperate!
Even though his attack plan wasn’t too bad—he had forgotten the fact that Diamantona had experience against someone like him, against a Scion of the Anger Stratum. Naturally, Diamantona knew how the Absolute Anger Effect worked.
It only blocked any lethal attack no matter where it came from.
But it wouldn’t be able to block more than one lethal attack.
And that was precisely why Diamantona fired the stronger lance second, while the first was poured with enough immortal energy to trigger the Absolute Anger Effect. Had it not been for Rex’s insane reflex—that attack sequence would’ve been his second death.
He held his ground, blood streaming from the wound, and pressed onward.
But three crystal lances already cut through the air.
One activated his Absolute Anger Effect, the second stabbed into his heart, and the third pierced through his forehead, causing his head to recoil backward. Rex fell back again. And the world grew dark again. Like earlier, notifications flooded his mind-vision.
<Notice: the Domination of the First Alpha skill was triggered!>
<Five points have been deducted from Life Points.>
<Life Points: 123>
Rex was brought back to life again—the process of reviving only happened on a whim, but there were already more crystal lances coming his way. Despite being mid-air, he managed to throw himself to the side and dodge the incoming death lances.
Barely, but it saved him some Life Points.
He’s not pulling anything back now. Reaching him seemed to be impossible.
Having the System by his side, he was confident that he could win any situation.
However, it felt really hopeless to reach Diamantona.
Rex had been treating Diamantona as an obstacle, a wall to break through. But the Scion was not a wall. He was a predator. Someone who had killed a Scion of the Anger Stratum. He knew Rex’s weaknesses. He knew how to exploit them.
Above, Rex saw the crystal lance was complete.
And warning notifications flooded his vision.
<Warning!>
<Warning!>
<An enormous amount of immortal energy surpassing the user’s reserve was aimed at the user!>
I need to end this. Now!
Rex gritted his teeth, the pain in his shoulder a distant throb, and prepared to charge again.
He still has one more trick up his sleeve, and now is the time to use it.
