Chapter 183, Meeting of the Lords (aka Drinking Party)_2

Chapter 183, Meeting of the Lords (aka Drinking Party)_2

We reached the town close to where the meeting was to be held. I parted ways with the capital bound, spatial distortion magic wielding Schwarz, and headed to the manor of the Lord I was supposed to visit.

Though the latter half of the get-together winds up being a drinking party, they do conduct a proper meeting in the first half.

In bigger gatherings, the other Lords tend to treat me in a condescending manner owing to my young age but in smaller meetings like these, they tend to look at me with equal feelings of awe and sympathy for being the one holding Shiki’s reins and don’t really look down on me.

Well in the beginning they did have a lot to say, but gradually they accepted me into their fold. Sometimes… they say things like, ‘If he’s been put in charge of Shiki, then he’s got to be a pervert too, right?,’ and stuff like that.

“I’ll probably end up running late if I don’t hurry.”

Upon checking the time, I realized my leisurely pace could result in me being tardy.

I was not planning to cut it this close, but a lot of things happened which were out of my control. Though, I am excited to meet up with one of my brothers after quite some time…

“Though that only comes after the meeting.”

I also want to inquire about my sister Sumi’s wellbeing to her husband but that’s also going to have to wait until after so I better see this meeting through first.

…I bet the meeting is not going to be uneventful this time around either.

I made it in time but since few others were late, the meeting got pushed back and then it was finally commenced some time later.

I waved to Gen, when we made eye contact and Sumi, who was there instead of her husband for some reason. I guess I’ll ask her why later but for now I need to focus on the meeting.

“Welcome everyone, let’s get this meeting started. First on the agenda is the recent wave of monster attacks and their aftermath.”

Have there been so many attacks that it was deemed necessary to bring it up during the meeting?

Well I guess, there was the Fenrir incident related to Ms. Schwarz and the modification of an orc monster by Roshenna Rivers and its subsequent rampage. I did hear from Ms. Schwarz that some shady investigation was underway.

“These past few months, Fenrirs have been leaving their habitats and wreaking havoc. We’ve also been receiving reports that Direwolves have been ransacking fields, as such–”

They gave us a short recap of the agenda discussed during the last meeting. Though the Fenrir incident could be connected to Ms. Schwarz, the Direwolves attacking in a totally different place can’t be related to her. I also heard that Ash and the others were attacked by monsters during their investigation.

There are still sealed monsters to worry about. Maybe something caused a disturbance in the monster habitats and it’s an omen of what’s to come. I need to gather more information.

“— been getting reports that vampires have made an old castle their nest. Resurgence of hostile vampires usually leads to them taking control of undead in the area, so it needs to be dealt with immediate–”

“Ah, my people, Robot and sister have decimated them already.”

“I see. So the issue has been resolved then. Next on the agenda is the spread of opium which has also reached this region. The organization involved in its distribution has been erased. However, a few days earlier we received notice from the capital to look out for an unknown monster that had made an appearance—”

“Ah, that must be Robot I mentioned just earlier.”

“I see. Well then, please also ignore that everyone. Next, we’ve received reports that there have been a group of bandits subjugating wyverns in the mountains–”

“Ah, Robot destroyed their nest just yesterday. You should receive an update on that soon,”

“Alright, looks like all the critical monster issues have been resolved. Feel free to ignore everything I said earlier.”

But it was all thanks to Robot that all the issues concerning monsters were no more.

Most of the lords around who knew a thing or two about Robot weren’t too surprised, but the ones who were unfamiliar with her looked rather confused.

“That said, the monsters have been on the move recently, looking for new places to settle in. I believe officials have been dispatched to all of your regions to investigate the matter, so please stay safe.”

Well, the investigators feel a lot more dangerous than the monsters, if you ask me.

But there’s also that dragon that’s sealed somewhere so I guess it’s better to be safe than sorry.

“Also I’d like Shiki to show some restraint and not make the monster situation any worse.”

“…Sure.”

He went out of his way to mention Shiki by name. I mean, I don’t blame him.

If the people in Shiki need any monster parts, they get them from peddlers, make requests to adventurers or worse, personally set out to hunt the monsters down.

Emerald has even had Brown capture monsters with a bounty on their heads to test various different poisons on.

“Next on the agenda is… certain questionable information. I received a report that a mountain in my town temporarily disappeared for some time. There were a lot of eye-witnesses and magic or sorcery is not believed to be the cause– what is it, Heartfield? Do you have some insight into the matter?”

“Yes. Are you referring to the snow-capped mountain towards the north?”

“That’s right. Don’t tell me…”

“A married couple from my region, Half-Undead and Half-Angel happened to destroy it the other day and by the blessing of God’s miracle, they were able to restore it back to its original state. Apologies, I was planning to let everyone know momentarily. Since they had a barrier set up, there were no casualties, nor was anyone injured.

Everyone’s expression after listening to my report was one of, ‘Ah, that couple…,’ and I felt more scrutinous eyes on me. The Lord presiding over the meeting, cleared his throat and moved on to the next issue at hand.

“This probably doesn’t fall under the monster category but I received a report that four months ago, a female knight abruptly quit the army and teamed up with a goblin. If anyone happens to spot them– what is it, Heartfield?”

“Around two months ago, a half-goblin and an ex-knight got betrothed in Shiki.”

“What’s the name of the knight?”

“I probably shouldn’t be divulging her name but it’s… Horizon-Blue.”

“Ah yes, that’s her. How are they doing?”

“Her Husband has settled in quite well and is already adored among the townspeople. After long observation, we came to the conclusion that he poses no threat.”

This time everyone appeared as if to say, “Ah, but it’s Shiki we’re talking about…”

Honestly, the couple are really good people. But they tend to not care about their surroundings before they start flirting with each other and I wish they would stop doing that in front of children.

The facilitator held his hands in his head for a second before regaining composure and moving on.

“A poisonous marshland is reported to have popped up a couple of days ago and by the time adventurers got there, they found it already cleansed. It’s possible that the purification happened naturally or some adventurers passing by had a hand in it, or that monsters have sucked up the poison and contain it within their bodie– yes, Heartfield?”

Seeing me put my hand up, the facilitator sighed, resigned and let me speak. I understand his frustrations, but I have an obligation to protect my people.

“Our resident chemist was over the moon upon discovering a new poison the other day. Though I’m not completely certain, I’ll ask them just in case because nine times out of ten they are involved in anything poison related.”

“…You don’t say. Recently, a small army along with a black cat cloaked in black clothing was spotted in the forest at night doing something strange–”

“Well a few days ago, the black magic society held a super secret meeting to worship their black cat, so it’s probably that. Our resident black mage informed me of it.”

“Apparently there’s a girl being trained in the investigation team at the academy who laughs loudly, ‘Ahahaha,’ as she cuts down monsters–”

“Ah, I think she’s the student that was sent to us, the one with the cute laughter, ahahaha.”

“…There’s been a rumor going around that there’s a medicine that heals any wounds in miracle time and with no apparent side-effects, but it could still be dangerous so please look out–”

“If that medicine happens to be red in color, then it’s something our resident doctor came up with recently.”

“Alright, I give up, just tell us everything that happened in Shiki in the past six months! I’m sure that’s the fastest way to go about this!”

Exclaimed the facilitator, surrendered.

That said, I agree with him.
