The Rise of the Black Plain

Chapter 2960: Failure?

Chapter 2960: Failure?

Weeks had passed since the mysterious coffin appeared with two mummies in the territory of the Ancestral Cult.

Since that day, Minos' forces had been searching for him, not exactly for his location, but for information and clues about their leader's orders. Unfortunately, not even a single trace of him was left behind.

Minos' family and allies would not worry if he had successfully fled on that fateful day. However, the strongest members of the force had seen how their leader had been brutally attacked and wounded by the being in the previous coffin.

The alliance had been in constant tension since then, with its leaders lacking exact answers on how to proceed under these circumstances.

Amid all this, the core of the alliance led by the Ancestral Cult had moved, leaving their city and palace behind, careful to avoid unfortunate encounters with the side of the successors of the Celestial King's enemies.

Not only had the group left their headquarters, but they had also split up, going to different locations without informing each other of their positions, maintaining minimal contact possible during these weeks.

Minos' own family in the Upper Realm had split up, not risking being all together in the same place concurrently.

Lily was leading one of the three groups of her family, accompanied at that moment by Devdar and two other Entitled Deities, moving like nomads.

The realm had many cities, with several inhabited locations. But it was not difficult to find ancient ruins or even small reefs away from the pulsing civilization of the dimension.

In one of these places, a group of a little over four dozen individuals was resting for today after their activities in the vicinity.

Lily was sitting in the lotus position, meditating in silence, while Devdar, standing at the entrance of the dark cave they were using, received a report from one of his men.

"Senior, the faction is certain that the enemies are not with Senior Minos," said a level 127 man, subordinate to Devdar, one of the many who were not at the Ancestral Cult headquarters on the day Minos suffered his great defeat against the being in the mysterious coffin.

"The power of Senior Minos' throne is still active. His inheritances are functioning according to predictions. Our contacts in Senior Minos' native universe have confirmed this. Additionally, the alliance's leadership council does not believe that the enemies would keep him alive if they had the Celestial King's successor with them. The greatest probability is that Senior Minos escaped after being wounded, following the plans he had when we were attacked that day."

Devdar did not interrupt his subordinate, still skeptical but in agreement with what he was hearing.

If Minos was the successor of Tian Wang and those were the successors of the Celestial King's enemies, then Minos' death was the best for such a group.

Moreover, Minos was indeed mysterious, with powers beyond the comprehension of "common" beings.

'It's possible,' Devdar believed in the possibility that Minos had escaped on his own, remembering the last throne the man had got in the Abyssal Region. 'It's really possible.'

Devdar asked, "And about our groups? Any problem related to that coffin?"

The man kneeling in front of Devdar shook his head in denial. "No. I dare not say exactly the situation of our hidden companions, but none of them has used the emergency signal. They have also been giving confirmation of their status every two days."

Most of Minos' allies were beings with hundreds of thousands of years and experience of having led dozens of forces in their lives. They had secret communication methods that, while not revealing information about position and ongoing actions, showed if something was wrong or if things were proceeding normally.

If something happened to any group, they would not know the details, but a specific signal, which only they would understand, would arise to alert them.

Nothing of the sort had arisen since the mysterious coffin attack.

"Stay alert for problems," Devdar said as he looked in Lily's direction. "For now, let's continue with our leader's plans. Avoid contact with Lydis' forces and problems. Let's keep building our contacts slowly."

Lily opened her eyes, her countenance tranquil, her confidence unshakable. She stood up gracefully and said to the group, "Let's move on. We've stayed here too long."

"Where are we going now?"

"To the Cursed Land of the Dragons," she said, looking at a map of the realm in front of her.

The group gathered quickly, leaving that cave silently.

'Raising our levels won't be easy. We can only bring more allies to our side while we wait for you…' The young leader walked ahead of the group, thinking not only of her father but also of Minos' women.

While Abby, Gloria, Ruth, and Segiel would not be as powerful as Minos when entering the realm, each of them could bring great strength to the alliance. Lily and her companions did not underestimate the possibilities that the four would eventually bring to them!

However, no member of the cult knew how long it would take for the first of them to enter the realm, while Ruth had not even begun an inheritance at the present moment.

Minos meditated nonstop after the words of the mysterious being behind that dark dimension where he woke up.

How much time had passed? A day? 10 days? 6 months? He felt as if, at the same time, he had spent years in that space, but from time to time, he felt as if everything had happened very rapidly.

He did not despair about it. His family might be at risk, but against that being from the mysterious coffin, he sincerely had no chance. Rushing would be the same as decreeing the end not only for him but for all his people. Therefore, he chose to stay calm and cultivate silently.

His only chance, as the being behind that dark dimension had told him, was to get stronger.

And so he did!

After an indefinable time meditating under the attacks of the white and black silhouettes, Minos felt the laws of those two existences becoming more familiar to him, while his absolute law approached its maximum peak.

His foundation was the Law of Time, and that did not change when training other absolute laws. On the contrary, as he understood more about darkness and light, Minos felt his own time foundation evolve, slowly managing to perceive the distortions of that dimension and the particularities of his 'trainer'.

His spiritual cultivation evolved accordingly, reaching the absolute peak of level 126, just a small step from reaching the breakthrough point.

Naturally, it would not be easy for him to advance. His spiritual base was already as strong as that of a True Celestial at level 128. Advancing to level 127, for Minos, would be like a being at level 128 reaching level 129.

Standing up from his position, he opened his mouth and exhaled.

"Oh?" The voice behind that dimension sounded after a long period of silence. "Are you going to give up?"

The corners of Minos' lips turned up. Now he was completely healed from his wounds, without any trace that made him feel uncomfortable. After letting a subtle laugh escape his lips, he said, "Staying here forever won't help me. An incomplete law, even if absolute, is not enough to make me advance past this bottleneck."

"You noticed, huh…"

"Are you Yin and Yang?" Minos asked, without looking at a specific point, just staring at the ground.

"Not exactly." The figure of a throne of light and a throne of darkness formed in the place of the silhouettes that had been attacking Minos. "But it was your luck to encounter that singularity."

A body of shadows materialized on the throne of light, and the voice in that dimension continued, this time coming from the mouth of that body.

"When I was alive, I held the full power of one of those two laws. But today, everything has changed… Unfortunately, this is the limit to which I can help you."

Minos understood, even though that being did not speak directly. 'So this was the holder of the Law of Light…'

"You were Tian Wang's 'ally'!" Minos murmured in recognition.

A subtle laugh sounded for merely a second. "When you were wounded earlier, that guy invoked the last spark of my soul to save you and teach you a little. Strangely, I could control darkness in this unique experience.

But, as you said, I'm missing something."

For the first time, Minos was face to face with someone who had existed in the Ancestral Realm and was not an enemy.

Upon getting his confirmation, he couldn't help but ask, "Senior, can you tell me about the Ancient Era? What exactly do the enemies of the Celestial King seek by antagonizing him even after his end?"

The voice responded, but much weaker than before, "I would like to tell you about the ancient glory, but I don't have much time left.

Immortality is the greatest gift, but also the worst of punishments.

It is not for those who desire it, but for those destined to serve. Unfortunately, not everyone has the same goals…

Young one, be careful with Tian Wang's enemies. The next time you encounter them, there will be no second chances.

Try to survive, but never allow them to succeed in their ambition. Dying to stop them will be better than living and failing. What they seek will be the end of everything. Be sure of that!"

The two thrones began to disappear, with the shadowy silhouette becoming more and more transparent.

"Find a receptacle for Yin and Yang. That might be your only path beyond your advancement…"

The existence did not even finish speaking its last words when it disappeared, taking with it the powers of that strange dimension.

Minos felt his existence traverse space, leaving the world where he had meditated for a little over 30 days, before returning to the Upper Realm, in a location, for now, uncertain.

He wanted to know more and wanted to hear more direct answers. But he understood the limits of an existence that had already ended.

Clenching his fists, Minos said to his throne, 'Let's hunt a Devil. Time to give Ruth her chance!'

Unable to return to his group's side and with few possibilities for growth available within his reach, he focused on what he could do in the little time he had left!
