Chapter 214 She Does It Again
Chapter 214 She Does It Again
I immediately call Aeson back. While his reason for turning down my request is fair, I am not in a position to take it as it is. I need to go to the academy today, regardless of whether things have cooled down there or not.
“The number you are trying to reach is temporarily unavailable.”
“Damn it!”
Cleverly, Aeson has turned off his phone. He probably guessed that I would keep nagging and guilt-tripping him until he is forced to take me, and he’s not wrong; I was planning to do just that.
[That didn’t go very well. So, now what??]
Sigh… I will have to find someone else who can take me to the Academy.
[And who might that be?]
I don’t know. Apart from Aeson, the only people I know who go to the academy and can bring me along as a guest are Ilyrana and Saria.
[Yeeeah… that’s not happening.]
It isn’t… unless, Saira is the culprit. In which case, it’s in her best interest to help me out. Her plans may be foiled yet again if I don’t even make it into the academy.
But then, how am I supposed to contact her? I don’t have her number or know where she lives. Do you think hiding near the academy barrier and waiting for her to show up will work again?
[It might, but are you sure she would help? Especially if she is the culprit? I mean, think about it, if I were in her place, I would try my best not to—]
“My, my… you sure do look worried.” A sultry and playful feminine voice suddenly interrupts my conversation with Pink, giving me a jump-scare. I look around the room in alarm, but there’s no one here.
Is someone transmitting their voice to me?
“I am here, look up!” The voice calls out.
And as I do, I find Naomi, the Great White Fox, floating above as if lying on an invisible bed, and looking down at me with an impish grin. She has her arms crossed with her head resting on them, and her fluffy tail is swaying back and forth merrily.
In this position, her boobs (that are almost popping out of her dress) look similar to big ripened fruits, hanging directly above my head. I have this strange urge to grab and pull on them, but I keep my hands to myself. I know she is doing this on purpose.
“Come on! Why do you always do this?” I ask with a sigh, exasperated.
“Do what?” She tilts her head innocently.
“Sneak up on me in a private space unannounced! There’s a door right there! Why can’t you just knock like a normal person!?”
“Because that’s boring and not my style,” she answers as if that’s a perfectly acceptable reason.
…
“You know what? I am not in the mood to argue right now,” I say, shaking my head. “Why are you here? Thought it would be funny to spy on me this early in the morning?”
“No, silly. You think I would reveal my presence if that was the case?” She pouts, pretending to look hurt. “I just wanted to check on you.”
“Check on me?”
“Yeah… to see if you are doing okay,” she says with a nod. “I cannot imagine that day being anything but traumatic to you. I hope you are recovering.”
“…”
Naomi waits for me to say something, but all I do is look at her in confusion. She frowns a little before continuing to speak.
“Also, I need something to be made clear—the Beastkins were opposed to it. We even voted against it, and instead proposed to look for an alternate method. But unfortunately, we were in the minority.”
What is she talking about?
“After all, the Blood Bond is permanent. While it gives us tools to keep you safe, the freedom and privacy you have to sacrifice is of no small concern.”
Oh… It’s about that.
“You know about the Blood Bond between Marianne and me?” I ask, raising my brows.
“Of course, I do,” Naomi confirms. “Everyone you saw at the meeting the other day knows about it. The Blood Bond was proposed by Madam Yrathea as a solution for the safety problem involving you, and as I mentioned, each faction had to vote either in favor of it or against it.”
“And the majority of you guys voted for enslaving me, I get it,” I say emotionlessly.
“Yes, but as I told you, we, the Beastkins, did not. We were against it,” Naomi clarifies. “And it wasn’t exactly an easy decision for others, either. Though not because they were concerned about your freedom. As a Primordial magic user, you are bound to become a real powerhouse someday— as long as you live long enough, that is.
“And to allow Vampires to have such an unfair degree of control over you is like handing them the key to become the strongest among the system-dependent countries.”
“I see, and you guys still choose to do so, because the alternative is getting this key potentially stolen?” I ask, folding my arms.
“Yes, by our enemies. But Madam Marianne should’ve already explained all of this to you, hasn’t she?” Naomi asks wonderingly. She is now drifting around the room in circles, and I have to keep rotating in place just to keep my eyes on her.
“She has, but that doesn’t mean that I am okay with it,” I say angrily. “You guys decided on my fate without even consulting me, and then forced it upon me! It’s clear that I am nothing but a pawn to you guys, so don’t be surprised if I am resentful!”
My rage is half real and half fake. Of course, I am furious that these fuckers tried to enslave me, but at the end of the day, it did not work. In fact, it even backfired. Marriane is my slave now.
But that’s a secret nobody can know of, so I have to pretend a little.
“I am not surprised you feel this way,” Naomi says, smiling strangely. “You have all the right to be resentful, Jacob. And this is why I came here today, to make sure you understand that we, the Beastkins, are on your side. It’s just a shame that we are the only ones that are.”
…
Why is she trying so hard to get on my good side? Isn’t this unnecessary now that I am already Marianne’s slave (according to them)? Yrathea certainly didn’t seem to care about how I feel when she pulled that sick stunt on me.
[She is not just trying to get herself on your good side, but the Beastkins as a whole.]
But why?
[No clue.]
Well…
“Okay, sure,” I say with a shrug. “I guess the Beastkins aren’t my enemies.”
“Exactly!” Naomi nods enthusiastically, floating down to meet me at eye level. “In fact, you should even consider us your friends!”
…
“…okay?” I say, frowning and giving her the suspicious side-eye.
“Great!” She claps happily. “I was planning to give you the biggest and the most exciting present to show you our sincerity, but let’s save that for later. For now, I will give you something smaller to satisfy your immediate needs.”
[Satisfy your immediate needs? Is she going to blow you or something?]
…
I gulp down the saliva in my mouth.
“W-What is it?” I ask, my heart rate spiking.
“Well, I couldn’t help but overhear your conversation on the phone earlier. Do you want help entering the Elven Magic Academy?”
