Arc 18: Lu Jian Peak's Affairs | Chapter 349: Sending Invitations

Recently, several major events have occurred at the Wulin Immortal Sect.

The first event is that Jile Peak, Jile Peak Laozu, and his first disciple turned out to be vile figures of the demonic path. Once discovered, one was killed, and the other fled, never to return to the sect for decades. Now, the sect master has verified this and reclaimed Jile Peak, leaving only a few small peaks surrounding the central one still standing. Without the protection of the ancestor, the people of Jile Peak no longer have the arrogance they once displayed and have since become much more subdued. For a time, the once-overbearing Jile Peak faction became silent, and many who had flocked to them dispersed, each seeking their own way to survive.

The second event is the return of Yun Lie, the newly ascended Nascent Soul Laozu, who had disappeared decades ago while on a mission with his close junior disciple. They had both vanished without a trace, and it was rumored that they had fallen along the way. His name even fell from the Tianlong Ranking, which made the rumors seem all the more credible. But now, Yun Lie has made a sudden and powerful return, appearing before everyone as a Nascent Soul Laozu. His return is truly impressive and has garnered much admiration. He is the first in countless years to cultivate the Ruthless Killing Sword Method to such a level, and now he is the youngest Laozu. His immense talent, potential, and formidable accumulation make his immortal path exceptionally bright and promising. Many flock to him, eager to seek his protection, build ties, and gain access to his resources.

The third event is that this newly ascended Nascent Soul Laozu is about to hold a grand oath ceremony, where he will officially become a dual cultivation partner with his junior disciple. From then on, they will accompany each other on their immortal paths, advancing hand in hand. His junior disciple is the very same one who disappeared with him, and rumors suggest that this disciple is deeply connected to Yun Lie’s emotions. Before disappearing, he was only in the early stages of cultivation, but now, he has already reached the mid-stage of the Golden Core, showing a talent that rivals even Yun Lie’s. However, this has sparked jealousy among some bystanders, who can’t help but utter a few sour remarks.

These three major events seem only loosely connected at first glance, but upon closer inspection, the first event may not be entirely unrelated.

For example, why did Jile Laozu leave Jile Peak for decades, just as Yun Lie also disappeared for decades? And why did Jile Peak remain unscathed until Yun Lie’s return, after which the sect master reclaimed Jile Peak, causing its members to lose their high status? Moreover, there was once some conflict between Xu Ziqing and a certain disciple from Jile Peak, which later turned into enmity.

There may be unspeakable secrets involved, and the truth of the matter leaves much room for speculation. However, no one dares to speak openly about it.

Atop Xiaolu Peak, within a cave mansion beneath the summit.

Xu Ziqing and Yun Lie sat across from each other, playing a game of chess.

Not far away, a young girl dressed in a light green dress poured tea for the two, resting her chin on her hand as she watched them place their pieces.

The girl was exceptionally beautiful, with an ethereal air about her, but her gaze carried a hint of charm that could easily captivate anyone who saw her. Behind her, three fluffy, soft fox tails swayed playfully, adding a touch of cuteness to her appearance.

She was none other than the celestial fox Hu Xue’er. After decades of cultivation, she had grown three tails. Being a spirit of heaven and earth, unlike ordinary beasts or demonic cultivators who must transform or remain in their beastly forms, she was naturally endowed with a human form upon growing her second tail, making her cultivation path smoother without the need for further enlightenment. However, while her cultivation level remained low, she couldn’t retract her tails, which was the only feature distinguishing her from human cultivators.

In a nearby pool, mist rose as two tall figures gracefully emerged, transforming into two young men—one in white and the other in red.

The young man in white was elegant and pure, like a tranquil pool of water, flawless and untainted by the mundane. The young man in red was strikingly beautiful, like a blazing flame, exuding an air of superiority.

Although their facial features were identical, they gave off entirely different impressions.

They were none other than Yue Hua and Yan Hua. After years of cultivating their primordial spirits, they had finally formed human bodies, while their true forms still rested in the Cold Jade Pool. As long as their true forms remained intact, they could always be reborn. In the past, their forms had been illusory, hiding within their true bodies, not daring to reveal themselves. However, having already offered part of their souls, they knew that their master Xu Ziqing was still alive. Still, due to their lack of cultivation and the fear of being captured and refined by others, they had no choice but to continue their arduous cultivation while waiting for their master’s return.

At that moment, Yun Tianheng and Yun Zhengrui walked in from outside the cave, each holding a stack of invitation cards in their hands.

Yue Hua, Yan Hua, and Hu Xue’er immediately went over to join the two Yun family members and asked, “How is everything coming along?”

Yun Tianheng sat down and handed over a stack of invitation cards, saying, “These are the people familiar with our shizun and shishu. Please help me check if I’ve missed anyone or if there are any issues with the wording.”

Yun Zhengrui also took out a stack and said, “These are for the people familiar with our grandmaster. We should invite them too. Please take a look.”

These individuals were all under Xu Ziqing and Yun Lie. Although Yue Hua and the other two were non-humans, they had followed their master for many years and were highly experienced. The two members of the Yun family, although registered disciples, held slightly higher statuses than the three non-humans.

As a result, they all showed great respect to one another, and after some back-and-forth interactions, they quickly grew close.

Additionally, since they were helping each other and working together on tasks for Yun Lie and Xu Ziqing, their rapport steadily grew stronger.

After carefully reviewing the invitations, everyone agreed that they were appropriate and then delivered them to Xu Ziqing for final approval.

Xu Ziqing glanced through them and, seeing no errors, he then emitted a green light from his fingertips, which entered each invitation. After which he handed them to Yun Lie.

Yun Lie followed with his own energy, marking each invitation.

This completed their ceremonial invitations.

With a flick of his finger, Yun Lie sent the invitations flying into the air, scattering them rapidly outside the cave.

Before long, these invitations would reach the hands of the many guests, extending their invitation.

As the invitations were just sent out, two flying creatures fluttered into the cave.

The gray one landed and transformed into a cold-looking youth with a tall, upright posture and handsome features—it was Yan Shuang, the Shuangyan Bird.

Naturally, Chonghua came in with him.

Yan Shuang had been enlightened by Master Qiu He and restarted his cultivation under Yun Lie’s guidance in the ways of the sword. Though his cultivation base had only barely reached the Foundation Establishment stage after several decades, he had made significant progress in swordsmanship, being able to wield sword energy. After Xu Ziqing and Yun Lie had disappeared, he faithfully remained on Xiaolu Peak, managing the peak and continuing his sword practice without pause. Now that the two had returned, they recognized his loyalty and steadfastness and had Yun Lie take him as a registered disciple.

His leap from serving as a servant to becoming the registered disciple of a Nascent Soul ancestor caused many other enlightened spiritual birds and beasts to be envious. Yet, Yan Shuang remained humble and did not develop arrogance despite his elevated status, earning even more appreciation from the two.

Chonghua had a strong relationship with Yan Shuang, and after not seeing each other for many years, they sparred in their beast forms. Each had their own strengths, but ultimately, Chonghua’s cultivation was superior, and Yan Shuang was defeated. This was why the two entered the cave together earlier.

Once inside, Yan Shuang greeted Xu Ziqing and Yun Lie, then went off with Yue Hua, Yan Hua, and the others to discuss sword techniques with Yun Zhengrui.

Meanwhile, Xu Ziqing beckoned to Chonghua, who, in his now smaller form, flew over to snuggle against Xu Ziqing’s shoulder. Xu Ziqing gently asked, “How was your sparring with Yan Shuang recently?”

Chonghua raised his head and let out a proud cry.

Xu Ziqing chuckled, “You’re several realms higher than Yan Shuang. Even though you barely won the fight, how can you be so smug? If you don’t keep improving, once Yan Shuang advances in his cultivation, he’ll leave you behind.”

Chonghua tilted his head and let out a few dissatisfied cries.

Xu Ziqing stroked his head to soothe him.

After a moment of closeness between master and pet, Xu Ziqing turned to the numerous disciples and servants, saying, “The invitations have been sent out. Now, my martial brother and I need you to run an errand. Are you all willing?”

The two Yun family members, being registered disciples, felt it was their duty to respond.

The other non-humans listened and contemplated, their hearts full of speculation: “Please give your orders, master.”

Xu Ziqing smiled and said, “Zhengrui, Tianheng, take this invitation and deliver it to the main peak, presenting it to the sect master.” He raised his hand and shot out a golden light.

This was an invitation he and Yun Lie had personally refined, much more formal than an ordinary invitation.

Yun Zhengrui and Yun Tianheng felt a tightness in their hearts and quickly responded, “Yes, shizun/shishu.” They reached out to catch it, feeling its warmth and weight like a mountain.

Xu Ziqing then turned to Yue Hua, Yan Hua, Hu Xue’er, and Yan Shuang, sending out four more light spheres: “Yue Hua, you will take this invitation to the various peaks and hand it to the elders.”

Yue Hua answered, “Yes.”

Xu Ziqing continued, “Yan Hua and Xue’er will deliver invitations to the Si Xing Peak. Xue’er will present it to the head of the Si Xing Hall, while Yan Hua will give it to the various elders of the Si Xing Hall. Yan Shuang, you will take the invitations to the overseers of the Si Xing Hall.”

Yan Hua, Hu Xue’er, and Yan Shuang respectfully agreed.

Xu Ziqing then concluded, “This delivery is of great importance and must not be taken lightly. Once you all return safely, I will also accept the three of you as registered disciples.”

The three non-humans were startled and became even more cautious.

Yan Shuang had already been taken as a disciple under Yun Lie, but his loyalty and caution remained strong.

Chonghua then exited the cave, transforming into a massive beast, carrying all those delivering invitations on his back.

Suddenly, a strong wind arose, and the group vanished into the air.

After Xu Ziqing had given his instructions, he let out a sigh of relief. Turning back, he met Yun Lie’s gaze. He smiled and asked, “Shixiong, did I miss anything?”

Yun Lie shook his head slightly, “No.”

Xu Ziqing smiled faintly, feeling at ease.

Upon returning, although there were many matters to arrange, the loyalty of the servants and the cleverness of the disciples brought him great joy.

The atmosphere at Xiaolu Peak was lively, a stark contrast to the initial coldness he had felt upon entering the great world—or even when he first reincarnated in this strange realm.

After he and his martial brother were married, they would both enter Lu Jian Peak together, and he believed his mindset would undergo a significant change.

Xu Ziqing looked at Yun Lie with gentle eyes, filled with warmth and affection.

For many years, he and his shixiong had been inseparable, and in just a few days, their fates would be intertwined…

From then on, there would be no need to worry about anything that could separate them.
