THE VILLAIN'S POV

Chapter 791: The Forgotten Self (2)

Chapter 791: The Forgotten Self (2)

After that, neither of them spoke another word.

They sat in silence, gazing into the fire as the hours of the night slipped by one after another.

Between the warmth of the flames and the chill of the night wind, the two felt a strange sense of familiarity in the air ..

An atmosphere they both wished could last forever.

In the end, Ada did not join them that first day.

And so, Frey made his decision.

"I think... it’s time for me to tell you my story as well."

He idly played with his fingers as Abraham gave him his full, undivided attention.

"It’s a tragic story .. pitiful, perhaps... and dark, if that description fits."

"Are you sure, Frey?" Abraham asked gently.

"You know I can wait, no matter how long it takes."

He hadn’t expected Frey to reveal his secrets so soon.

But Frey shook his head.

"It’s fine. At the very least, I owe you that much.

And we’ll soon be thrown into the final battle .. there won’t be time for conversations like this then."

At that moment, Frey made up his mind.

And he told his father everything.

The story took hours ..long, unbroken hours .. until the morning sun finally rose above them.

Frey left out nothing.

He spoke of the system’s final missions, his relationship with Nameless and how that being had become a part of him...

of his strange connection to the Demon King,

the Historians,

and the other world—one he himself barely understood.

Abraham’s expression shifted again and again .. between shock, disbelief, and astonishment .. at the sheer madness of what Frey was recounting.

Yet he never interrupted.

He allowed Frey to speak until the very end.

A night-long confession.

At first, Abraham said nothing.

Then came his first reaction.

"This is... truly tragic. My son... you’ve suffered so much."

He was genuinely saddened by what he had learned ... by the fate of a son bound to overwhelming power, dragged into conflicts with transcendent beings far beyond human reason or capacity.

Hearing his father’s words, Frey let out an unconscious laugh.

"It’s alright, Father. I’m used to it by now."

Those words only deepened Abraham’s sorrow.

For his son to have grown accustomed to such hell ..

that alone was proof of how much he had endured over the years.

A suffering unlike anything Abraham himself had known.

Abraham quickly composed himself, his mind beginning to analyze everything Frey had told him.

"So... even you don’t know what you truly are."

Frey nodded.

"I have no memories of any of this nonsense surrounding me—

the Historians, those strange faces..."

He was referring to Audrey, and to the mysterious blond-haired boy responsible for the system.

He didn’t recognize them.

Yet for some reason... he felt as though he had known them before.

Especially that blond-haired boy.

Frey couldn’t understand it.

Had he lived another life before reincarnating?

Or was he part of something far greater?

The more he thought about it, the more lost he became.

But Abraham’s concern wasn’t Frey’s origin.

It was something else entirely.

"You said Nameless... is inside you now," Abraham said slowly.

"And that the two of you are on good terms .. correct?"

Frey nodded.

"For now... yes."

At that, Abraham’s expression turned serious.

"Then... can you switch with him for a moment?

There’s something I wish to speak with him about."

Frey hesitated.

"Nameless helps me from time to time, but he refuses to fully take over my body.

He’s afraid my emotions—my self—will spread into him even more than they already have.

So I don’t know if I can do what you’re asking."

His answer was honest.

But then .. he heard a voice inside his head.

"That’s fine. Grant his request."

It was Nameless .. instantly dismissing Frey’s concern.

Standing before him within the sea of blood inside his mind, Frey was surprised by Nameless’s decision.

"Are you sure? I thought you didn’t want to take my body again."

Nameless nodded.

"And I still don’t. But this has nothing to do with your emotions."

His eyes glowed violet behind the mask.

"Your feelings—everything that is you—have already become part of me.

There’s no point in refusing any longer."

"All I refuse to do... is steal your body.

It belongs to you."

"I merely wish... to see how far you will go,

walking this brutal path you chose for yourself."

Nameless said this as he turned his gaze toward the path Frey had carved with his own hands through the sea of blood.

Frey was genuinely surprised by Nameless’s stance—he had never expected this from him.

In response, he found himself with nothing but words of gratitude.

"Thank you... You have no idea how much weight your words have lifted from my chest."

At Frey’s gratitude, Nameless simply shook his head.

"There is nothing to thank me for. We do not know what the future holds. What I am now is merely an empty fragment of my true self. Who knows? My stance may completely change once you recover the remaining pieces of the self—and my true personality returns to me."

Nameless was pointing out something critically important.

His current existence was nothing more than the result of the memories stored within the mask.

He was incomplete .. unfinished.

Once the original self returned... no one could predict what would happen.

Yet none of that altered Frey’s resolve.

"We can worry about that when the time comes. For now... there is only you and me," Frey said with a faint smile.

Nameless fell silent for a moment—then nodded.

"Yes... just you and me."

At that instant, both of them closed their eyes.

In the real world, Frey’s presence and aura shifted completely .. so much so that Abraham sprang to his feet, wariness etched across his face.

At the same time, Frey’s expression grew visibly colder ...more composed, more mature.

Even his very presence felt heavier... far heavier than before.

"There is no need for alarm, Abraham Starlight," Nameless said calmly, attempting to ease his tension.
