Chapter 806: Unique skills.
Chapter 806: Unique skills.
Unique skills were an enigma, their awakening conditions, the reason for their existence, and in whom they were present.
The eyes of a Dragon, and the heart of a God Beast, could be classified as a sort of unique skill, given that each set of eyes and heart possessed a different ability from the rest; however, in the case of these two, similarities were common.
However, a unique skill, like Aranus's Lapsus, James's Fatipu, and Alan Peccator's Dominatus, was never the same.
How could they be Unique if they were similar? Every documented Unique skill was different and served a purpose. And they were scarce, not only was the chance of an individual possessing a Unique skill abysmally low, but the chances of an individual realizing they possessed a Unique skill were even lower.
And the chance of them actually being able to use it? Even lower.
For every 100 people in the entire universe to possess a Unique Skill, only about ten of them would be able to realize they possessed a Unique Skill, and out of those ten, only one would be able to awaken and use it.
While they did not necessarily dictate the might of an individual and the level they could reach, they did bring something to the table. They were the driving force of many, many things.
The greatest example was Aranus. If not for Lapsus, even if the Abyss had or had not gotten to him as a little child, Aranus would have always grown strong. It was simply decided by fate that, even without his Unique Skill, he would have been mighty, powerful.
Even without Lapsus or the Abyss, Aranus would have become a force to be reckoned with. His strength did not come from his Unique skill; it was his own talent.
They weren't all-powerful skills that could immediately turn the tides of battle or make your victory certain, no matter what happened. They were trump cards, each with its own drawbacks and penalty of use. Lapsus was treated as such precisely because it was in the hands of the Abyss. After all, the unknown drawbacks of the skill affected Aranus only, and the Abyss couldn't give a damn about it.
Everyone who knew of it was certain the price was heavy, but no one exactly knew what the price was, unlike with Fatipu.
Lapsus had appeared only once, whilst Fatipu was a Unique skill that had appeared in individuals before as well. The skill enabled one to understand the complex weave of fate that decided everything. Every outcome that was possible.
However, the more one uses Fatipu, the more they would become fate. Each usage of the skill exposed you to fate, and thus, with each understanding, you yourself would become part of that weave.
A mere particle of a force others could never see. All the previous users of the skill could only view the weave of fate once or twice before succumbing to it. James was the only one who could use it for so long.
And because of it all, Kulak wondered what the drawbacks, the awakening conditions, and the requirements for Dominatus were. He watched in silence as Alan accessed his system window; his mind was racing.
He almost couldn't believe what Alan's shadow had told him, even though he knew they could not lie. And so, he had tried to discover what this Unique Skill really could do.
And he had, to some extent. Unlike Lapsus and Fatipu, Dominatus was a passive skill. The conditions for its existence were still unclear; however, it was terrifying.
Kulak had discovered that the skill is not one used for attack, or rather, Alan is incapable of using it to attack; however, it did not mean the skill itself was incapable of harm.
He had encountered it when he tried to look at 'her' through Alan's eyes, to peek into his soul, and thus, gaze at his existence. It was there that he met the skill and shivered.
Dominatus activated once provoked, and, unluckily, Kulak had done the one thing that provoked it, trying to do anything to Alan's soul, anything to his existence, even so much as a peak would trigger the activation of the skill.
It was why part of his domain was still; it was why a part of Lightless Void was under the skill's control. He tried to look at what he shouldn't have.
The skill had deemed him a hostile entity and had tried to dominate his entire existence, to bring it under his control. The moment he had come into contact with it, he had realized there was only one way to stop it.
And that was to cut a part of himself off, the one that was now still, a Lightless void that wasn't under his control.
'It must be provoked to be activated in its current state.'
However, it could be stopped, though at a price. Had Kulak not cut a part of himself that he could never recover, he would have fallen to the skill as well.
In this dormant form, the unique skill could be stopped. But he had so many questions, about the boy in front of him, the irregularities within him, and the reason for his existence, what James had been trying to do to him?
But he couldn't, the Shadows would not talk of it, and neither could he see it with the help of Dragon Eyes, because if he tried, the skill would be provoked once more.
How had it given birth to an entire new existence? How had James benefited from it? What exactly was he looking at?
He was sure of one thing, and that was precisely why he was confused. Alan Peccator was sealed; he had seals placed on him that limited him... But why had his skill not responded to these seals?
The one in front of him was a peculiar existence, and because he had those eyes, Kulak couldn't sit by and do nothing, as he didn't even know what was happening to him.
'Hmph, not the first time I've done this.'
"Stay still, Young Child, and if you can, try to reel that skill of yours."
His body dissolved into shadows, becoming a part of the Lightless Void, and invaded the motionless area of shadows.
