Chapter 989: Necromancy.
Chapter 989: Necromancy.
When one first thinks of Necromancy, the images of liches and death knights slaughtering innocent civilians, waging endless wars and spreading their rot and disease appears in the minds of many… on Earth, at the very least.
Necromancers, in the universe, is an extremely respected position. Almost all Necromancers ally themselves with the house of Death, and those that are hermits still follow their ways. Why wouldn’t they? Necromancers are said to be the students of Death itself, and that position carries a lot of importance.
Most Necromancers, those who become liches, and those that remain tethered to the flesh, all serve the House of Death. They guide the souls of the departed, sing and dance for the glory of the dead, and perform funerals. Frankly speaking, it’s a well paying job in the universe, especially in the House of Death.
Almost all Necromancers are treated with respect, for they deal with Death. And in a Universe where the very concept of Death was introduced and personified by a being at the very top, it’s… pretty important they are treated with respect.
They walk the same path as a Primordial Dragon, after all, trying to understand Death and the Eternal End. Of course, there is a massive difference between Civilian Necromancers and War Necromancers.
Both are respected, but the latter outclasses the former in every way. War Necromancers surround themselves with Death every living day, and try to understand it, as well as impart it’s teachings onto those who deal death.
In the lands of peace, it is a respected job that guides departed souls to the realm of Shadows, listens to the regrets of the soul, and calms it. In the lands of War, it is a feared mage that will raise the dead for one final fight.
Necromancy comes in many forms, but the most famous, and the most powerful is related directly to Ariel, the Necromancy of the House of Death, which, ironically enough, has the ultimate goal to create life.
The rule’s Jyle mentioned are simple.
One is to not convert the weak into undead, only those that have acted against you in a malicious manner. One is to never initiate the conflict. Wanton slaughter will invoke the Wrath of Her Majesty.
One is advised to avoid causing suffering to the departed, lest her majesty will act upon you. Death is a peaceful affair, it is the end of conflict, the end of everything. Let it remain that way. The final rest of the soul must be in peace.
The Soul is Sacred, Let it not be consumed by the wrath of the living, the desire of the many. Give the soul to her majesty, and she shall bestow upon you a blank slate, one you can mold in whatever way you must. The Undead born from such a Blank Slate will be far powerful than those whose souls cry in pain and fury.
To those who disregard the sanctity of Death, To those that Defile it, To those that inflict it for trivial reasons like joy and pleasure, for reasons such as those, Show the vile spawn the Fury of Death, The Wrath of the End.
To those that do not understand it, To those that are ignorant, bless them with your knowledge. Impart onto them your wisdom, so that even they understand the importance of their end. Every End is Sacred, Every Death is significant, from the smallest blade of grass to the largest of Titans and Celestial Bodies.
Life and Death are two sides of the same coin.
Necromancers from the House of Death followed many rules, but those were the most important. They do not state that one must avoid conflict, but if one is forced into one, to honor Death. Alan knew most of the rules, courtesy of Valus, although he had a few suspicions about some…
He was pretty sure Loki, The Shape Shifter of the Divine, Trickster of the Cursed, The Primordial Being that started a war with the House of Death and was personally dealt with by Ariel was currently… ‘suffering’ an end Alan was sure was anything but peaceful, but other than that, Alan didn’t have many questions, nor did he care much.
However, he did have to realize Jyle was… amazing, to say the very least. Armed with the knowledge that his captors were not the ‘gods’ he was forced to believe, he slowly built up his strength and overthrew his captors.
But then again, that was it. All Jyle knew was that there were powers far beyond his grasp, Beings of might so vast that Earth was but a speck of dust in their eyes. In reality, Alan could tell from where he was standing.
All he had, was the knowledge that the demons ruling over him weren’t the most powerful to ever exist. That was all he had. Armed with just that much, he moved to overthrow them.
He didn’t have any ‘impossible’ talent, sure, you could argue that he did have great luck in obtaining the tome, but that was it.
The tome was not a skill book that would give him power immediately, in the end, he had to devote time and effort to learn everything. It was… admirable, especially since it was in an age where Earth was quite literally burning everywhere.
It was impressive, even more so that he had managed to reach his current rank merely on an introduction to Necromancy. The fact that he hadn’t been cursed by Ariel meant he followed the rules well, and as the Prince of Death, Alan had to respect that.
The man had done something worthy of respect, and the fact that he held onto his position for so long spoke of his strength. And when the man was done with his story, he asked for a favor.
“Please admit me, or at the very least, show me the procedure to join the House of Death. I would like to become a member. I want to meet my master, Arch Lich Jahal, even if he is unaware of my existence at the moment. I want to advance in this path.
I will offer you my loyalty, my city, and everything that I am. I merely ask that you allow me into the esteemed house that allowed me to dream beyond my weak stature.”
Alan could feel a sense of pride, respect, and acknowledgement from three dragons watching him. Ariel felt pride, Valus felt respect, and Kulak acknowledged his efforts.
