Chapter 1080: Mental Illness?
Chapter 1080: Mental Illness?
"Professor Peleg, what are you doing here? Don’t you have a lecture going on at this time? Why aren’t you over there enlightening your students on your Water Law?"
"I could say the same for you, Professor Yoki. Did you really abandon your lecture just to come here for some credits?" Professor Peleg scoffed.
"For some credits, you say? Don’t be ridiculous, Professor Peleg," Professor Yoki coldly snorted and said, "You know best just how valuable every unit of credit is for status advancement!"
"Do you think I want to be an Outer Palace Professor forever? I want to enter the Inner Palace and touch upon the higher laws!" Professor Yoki stated.
"With your talent? Just be content with being an Outer Palace Professor, Peleg. You have cultivated for ten million years and still haven’t condensed a sliver of King-level Divine Aura. Even if you earned enough credits to enter the Inner Palace, you will just be bullied by others," another Professor-rank fish-man disciple spoke.
"Hmph, you are also here, Professor Ligurian. Your lecture hall isn’t even located around here. You sure swam fast!" Professor Peleg replied sarcastically. He did not deny or acknowledge Professor Ligurian’s statement.
Professor Ligurian simply smirked before discontinuing the conversation.
With every end of a discussion, several more would begin as Professors continued to gather. They dissed, insulted, and condemned each other in hopes of shooing them away.
On the other hand, the more impatient Professors directly entered the Grand Chamber of Dilemma to peruse the Wall of Dilemma, even when they knew their actions might displease others.
That said, the impatient Professors still gave Vaan a nod of acknowledgment and recognition when they passed him. It was as far as their respect extended out of consideration for his status.
Vaan glanced back and watched the impatient Professors studying the Wall of Dilemma. He shook his head, knowing he had lost the opportunity to resolve any more problems within the Grand Chamber of Dilemma.
’These beings are like vultures, swooping in at the slightest opportunity,’ Vaan mused.
Although he had anticipated the competition within the Myriad Sea God Palace to be intense, it gave a different feeling to experience it personally.
Nevertheless, Vaan did not feel the slightest sense of loss at the missed opportunity to earn more credit from the Grand Chamber of Dilemma. Only incompetent people would fret over such things. Capable people didn’t lack such opportunities.
To begin with, earning credit was not Vaan’s original objective in this place.
His goal was to win over the hearts of the abandoned Junior Disciples and attract loyal followers. For that matter, he had definitely succeeded with stellar results. Of that, he was certain.
’I won’t be the one to finish resolving the dilemmas, but I was the one who started the trend. My actions had altered the course of the Junior Disciples’ lives. They will remember me and feel indebted to me even if I didn’t personally resolve their problems,’ Vaan thought.
After Vaan left the Grand Chamber of Dilemma, it quickly turned into a flea market. All the ill-stricken Junior Disciples were like second-hand goods; the Professors reluctantly brought them into their factions after resolving their problems.
The Professors felt that since they had already expended the effort to resolve their dilemmas, it would be a waste to turn them away. Even if they had limited uses, no one could say for certain that they wouldn’t be able to achieve anything after they had experienced something similar to rebirth.
They might just bring them unexpected surprises in the future.
"You... do you want to take me as your teacher and follow my teachings?" a Professor casually asked a cured Junior Disciple after a moment of contemplation. ȓÁŊỔ𝐛Ё𝐬
"You want to accept me as your student, Professor?" the male Junior Disciple uttered, eyes widening with surprise and disbelief. He didn’t expect to receive such a good opportunity after getting cured.
The difference between official students and unofficial students was huge. Official students would receive personalized guidance from their Professors and didn’t have to pay any contribution points to attend their lectures.
On the other hand, unofficial students had to pay for everything.
While some generous Professors were taking in disciples, others were recruiting for their factions. However, the latter was not going in well. Despite resolving their problems, the Professors’ faction recruitment garnered zero interest.
"My Galene Faction has a spot for you. Are you interested?"
"I’m sorry, Professor. Even though you have resolved my problem, I am not interested in joining the Galene Faction."
"You... Nevermind. So be it."
Despite the Junior Disciple’s respectful refusal, the Professor was still displeased by the rejection. Even so, the Professor found it beneath him to pick on a mere Divine Warrior. As such, he could only storm off gloomily.
The Wall of Dilemma was filled with millions of problems and had lasted for countless years. Yet, when hundreds of Professors gathered, it only took a single day to clear out everything.
Within three days after Vaan’s visit, the crowded land outside the Grand Chamber of Dilemma became a deserted region. No one had a reason to stay and remain idle after becoming able-bodied again.
Those who had found themselves teachers followed their Professors. Others went to neighboring domains to spread the word of Vaan’s deed.
Only a small minority of Junior Disciples actually joined a faction.
However, even then, they did not forget who their true benefactor was. They simply thought that utilizing the resources of a long-established and renown faction would help them grow faster.
Once they achieved substantial progress in cultivation, they would then have the capacity to repay their benefactor.
Although Vaan’s impact on the other Chamber of Dilemmas wasn’t as great as the Grand Chamber of Dilemma, everyone still recognized Vaan as the one who brought about the change and turned their lives around for the better.
For a short period, many Junior Disciples sang praises of Vaan’s selflessness and benevolence. However, they eventually died down and disappeared, along with his lack of presence and inactivity.
The commotion surrounding the Chamber of Dilemmas was just a small episode among many other big and small events that occurred within the Myriad Sea God Palace. As such, it was unable to make huge waves.
Of course, the hype surrounding Vaan’s feat would have persisted for long if Vaan had been around to stir up the Junior Disciples’ emotions.
However, Vaan had completely buried himself in the Grand Hall of Knowledge. For a whole week straight, he had only been absorbing the wisdom from books and nothing else.
Although Vaan’s location was known to others, many beings gradually stopped paying attention to him due to his eccentric behavior. No one could explain Vaan’s series of actions within the vast library even after observing him for extended periods.
From the beginning to the present, no one had seen him pick up a single book. The observers only saw him standing idly in one spot for several minutes before advancing several dozen paces, just to repeat the same inaction.
After hundreds of such dull cycles, even the most patient observers lost their patience and interest. They left one by one, and eventually, everyone forgot about Vaan.
The Grand Hall of Knowledge possessed vast knowledge in various formats.
The most ancient format was naturally books and scrolls, which were all stored in the old section. This was also the only area Vaan had visited since the start of his trip. It was only one section, but it still contained billions of books and scrolls of knowledge.
In other sections, more advanced formats included digital copies, Memory Crystals, Knowledge Potions, and even Divine Impartation. Excluding digital copies, the rest cost contribution points and credits to use.
Memory Crystals possessed visual demonstrations and verbal explanations. Depending on the knowledge stored within, people can experience the life of a book as if they had been there in that specific space and time.
To first-timers, it would be an otherworldly experience.
On the other hand, Knowledge Potions were simply yet also more advance. All information was stored in liquid form and would flow into the brain upon consumption. However, the preservation of such information also depended on the individual’s memorization ability.
Only Divine Impartation could transmit permanent knowledge that wouldn’t be lost unless damage to the soul was sustained.
Alas, few could afford Divine Impartation due to its cost in credits.
Most disciples spent their time in the electronic section. It was easier and quicker to find what they were looking for in the virtual space than to search through the vast old section manually.
Even so, a few disciples would still occasionally visit the old section.
"Hm? Noble Vaan was here?" a Junior Disciple uttered with surprised before becoming baffled. "But... what is he doing?"
"Uhh, don’t ask. No one knows. It’s even better if you don’t try to find out," another Junior Disciple warned.
Some disciples suspected that Vaan had developed a mental illness after being disheartened by the robbed opportunity back at the Grand Chamber of Dilemma. Others believed someone may have poisoned or cursed him with a mental condition.
Either way, it still seemed to be a mental thing.
Even several True Divinities in the upper echelon of the Myriad Sea God Palace, who originally had high hopes for Vaan, were also disappointed after learning about his situation. After all, if his heart could not endure such a minor setback, he would not be able to survive the Myriad Sea God Palace’s intense competition.
How can there be a Noble Being with such a weak will?
They quickly blamed whoever nurtured Vaan for "raising a flower in a greenhouse." Of course, this was only their initial thought.
A quick trip easily cleared up this misunderstanding.
As such, True Divinities from the Core Palace didn’t get involved in Vaan’s situation, which remained unknown to the denizens of the Inner Palace and Outer Palace.
"Don’t get too close or you might get infected or something. We don’t know if his condition is contagious or not," the second Junior Disciple added.
"But... shouldn’t we do something about Noble Vaan’s condition? We can’t just leave Noble Vaan like this, not after what he had done for us, Junior Disciples! He’s our benefactor!" the first Junior Disciple reminded.
"Haaa... if there was something seriously wrong with Noble Vaan, then do you think it would be our turn to help him? We are just Divine Warriors. We aren’t even proficient in medicine! What can we even do to help?" the second Junior Disciple argued.
"Since True Divinities haven’t acted, it must mean Noble Vaan’s situation is not that bad..."
Indeed, everyone had taken a single piece of information and greatly exaggerated it into something that was no longer true.
With Vaan’s current sensory ability, he didn’t need to hold an open book in order to read it. His Omni-Sense encompassed the entire area, enabling him to read hundreds to thousands of books simultaneously.
If he weren’t trying to memorize everything thoroughly, the number of books being read at the same time would have been several times greater.
