Chapter 1202: Compromised Shelter
Chapter 1202: Compromised Shelter
"Hold on," Empyrean Oceanheart suddenly recalled another matter. She asked, "You mentioned this entire situation began seven hundred years ago?"
"That’s right, Your Divinity. It was, more or less, around seven hundred years ago. Our survivor camp had been destroyed by the Edge Sweeper a total of thirty-three times during these seven-hundred-odd years," the Silver Merman Divine Lord answered honestly.
"That can’t be right..." Empyrean Oceanheart frowned, noticing the discrepancy in time.
"Ten years ago, I passed the Star River Realm to pick up my great-granddaughter from the Grand Unity Human Clan. The Star River Realm was still bustling with life and activity at that time."
"However, could there be no news at all if such a large number of beings were dragged into Umbral Edge seven hundred years ago?"
"In fact, the disappearance of numerous realms and people around Umbral Edge should have been major news. Yet, I have never heard a single news about it."
"That..."
The Silver Merman Divine Lord and the other Divine Lord Survivors were at a loss for words, not expecting the situation to be like that outside the Umbral Edge.
For the past seven hundred years, they had been desperately trying to survive as they evaded the Edge Sweeper. Naturally, they had hoped for rescue from the outside world on numerous occasions.
Yet, as it turned out, the outside world had no clue about their disappearance.
At the very least, a mighty figure like Empyrean Oceanheart had no clue. She was even caught in the Umbral Edge’s entrapment. In other words, even True Divinities were helpless in the face of this calamity.
"There must be a huge difference in the flow of time here compared to the outside world. At least a hundredfold, I would say," Vaan speculated.
Empyrean Oceanheart nodded in agreement.
Considering their arrival in the Star River Realm was also brief, it was also uncertain whether the local powers were also unaware of the change in the Umbral Edge or not. There was a higher chance that they were aware, but simply powerless to do anything about it.
After all, the Tier-9 Vermillion Flame Star Empire didn’t even have a single True Divinity. How could it possible solve something that could ensnare an Empyrean God like herself?
The Umbral Edge’s problem has surpassed the True Divinity level!
Or, at the very least, an ordinary Early-stage Empyrean God like herself was incapable of escaping the pulling force of the Umbral Edge’s Spacetime Formation. Maybe Middle-stage Empyrean Gods or even Late-stage Empyrean Gods could succeed.
"This... We’ve struggled for so long, while still hoping for rescue, yet so little time passed in the outside world... Does that mean there’s no hope at all?"
The Silver Merman Divine Lord and the other Divine Lord Survivor felt despair, realizing they would likely have to spend the rest of their lives in constant fear, evading the Edge Sweeper until they were killed by it.
"Expecting the Lord of Chaos to save is certainly impossible when His Greatness is too busy keeping the Abyssal Beast King and other Outerworlders at bay," Empyrean Oceanheart acknowledged.
"However, we still have hope if the Grand Unity Human Clan realizes the situation in Umbral Edge and sends out their high-level Empyrean Humans to investigate. That would be our chance at being saved."
"Of course, I wouldn’t pin my hopes on this either. The chances are simply and may never come. After all, the Grand Unity Human Clan is situated on the other side of Umbral Edge and pays little attention to matters outside its territory."
Although Empyrean Oceanheart didn’t mind giving the survivors hope, it had to be realistic hope. False hope was simply cruel.
Moreover, these survivors had already endured this dangerous environment for seven hundred years, witnessing countless deaths and evading death itself repeatedly. Their survival instincts and will have been honed through numerous trials. ⱤἈNỒβƐȘ
As such, they could certainly handle the hard truth.
Suddenly, a low WOOOOM vibrated through the underground walls, reaching various entrances from the core of the survivor camp. When the Divine Lord Survivors heard the alarm, their bodies shook, and their faces paled with horror.
"What’s going on?" Empyrean Oceanheart asked with a sharp gaze.
"That’s the alarm for when our shelter has been compromised! It means the Edge Sweeper has found us, Your Divinity! Please excuse me, I must run!"
The Silver Merman Divine Lord quickly answered before joining the other Divine Lord Survivors in their escape. They didn’t even have the time to suspect whether Empyrean Oceanheart’s group was to blame for the situation.
They could only do their best to escape. Otherwise, their lives would only be forfeited here.
BOOM!
The entire shattered star fragment suddenly shook, as if something of colossal weight and size had slammed into it, throwing it off into the distance. The force instantly threw countless survivors against the hard walls and ceilings.
Blood splattered and bones shattered as those with low cultivation died instantly—only Divine Lords and above managed to survive with heavy injuries.
Thanks to Empyrean Oceanheart’s quick reaction, Vaan and Seraphina were shie;lded from the shockwave. Even so, the sudden shockwave put everyone on full alert. Evidently, the force was quite substantial.
"We have to leave," Empyrean Oceanheart stated.
Swoosh!
In the next moment, Empyrean Oceanheart took Vaan and Seraphina fled the underground shelter from the original entrance.
Within moments, the outside situation came into view. Various streaks of light flew out of the shattered star fragment, scattering in different directions, some in concentrated groups, while others were sole individuals.
Regardless of the direction they took, one specific direction was completed avoid. In that particular direction, a colossal whale-looking Void Beast was found, heading toward them.
Although this Void Beast wasn’t particularly strong compared to Empyrean Oceanheart, being a Divine Emperor-rank Void Beast, even her instincts screamed danger upon seeing it. Most likely, its crystal assimilation could threaten her.
’Flee!’ Empyrean Oceanheart instantly decided.
With that thought, she quickly pulled Vaan and Seraphina far away from the shattered star fragment, which appeared to be the Void Beast’s current target.
