The World Dragon's Heir

Chapter 578: Royal Arrival

Chapter 578: Royal Arrival

With her explanation done, Amie opened the portal to show them where she intended for them to go.

"That’s your new home. Go ahead and see what you can make of it. Keep your heads down and stay out of trouble for a few years, and I doubt that anyone will even question where you came from." She insisted.

"Thank you for your assistance. Good luck with the end of the war."

Amie smiled at the Sergeant. "Indeed. Soon, this should all be over and sorted."

The weary infantrymen stepped through the portal, which Amie promptly closed behind them, so that Kaizon couldn’t convince them to return.

The Prince was beginning to wake up now, and realizing that his final sacrifice wasn’t what he had thought it would be. Not only were his men all dead, he was unfortunate enough to live to see it, with Dominic standing right beside him.

Amie opened a portal home, and Dominic lifted the Prince to his feet, then passed him to Dave to carry through.

On the other side, every one of the Royals, as well as all of their Royal Guards, were assembled, weapons ready.

"Oh, ye of little faith. Did you think that I wouldn’t win? Thank you for your concern, it means the world to me." Dominic greeted them.

"Idiot." Alexis muttered, then spoke loudly enough for everyone to hear.

"After your last great escape attempt, I put a tracking spell on you so that I could find you when you went missing. It lets me hear what is around you, so naturally I knew what was going on, and that you had apprehended the Renegade Prince of Dagos.

What shocked us was that you were planning to bring him back alive, and not bury him in the deepest pit you could find then fill it with explosives."

"Now that you mention it..."

A deep voice rumbled from the back row, and the Royal Guards parted to reveal two men in regal attire.

The Kings of Cygnia and Dagos.

"Your Majesty, welcome to Wistover. I have done as you asked and built a self-sustaining settlement here, with sufficient crops and industry to maintain the revenue of the Duchy.

Ahead of schedule, and on budget."

The King of Cygnia smiled. "Indeed, you have done it exceptionally well. So well, in fact, that it has caused great concern at court. Fortunately, what I found here was not nearly as dire as the rumours in the Capital would suggest.

I do have some questions about your choices later, but the Crown is assured that you have not been doing anything untoward during your tenure as Duke.

Now, how long will it take until the criminal Kaizon is coherent?"

Dominic shrugged. "That is unclear. I shot him in the face, and I am not an expert in internal injuries."

The King sighed, and waved a Troll forward, one of the new arrivals.

The Troll waved at Dominic happily, then cast a healing spell on Kaizon that mended his face and put a few kilos of weight back on his emaciated frame.

"Cygnia King man, he’s good now." He announced.

"Thank you, Larry. You are Larry, right?"

The troll nodded rapidly. "Yep, definitely a Larry."

For a moment, Dominic wondered if Dave and Larry actually had another meaning in Trollish. But there were more pressing matters to deal with now that the Prince was awake again.

Dave was still holding him suspended, but when he started to kick, the Troll to the left grabbed his ankles and turned him upside down.

That stopped the kicking.

"Let’s take this into the house. Is there somewhere private we can go?" The King asked, then snapped his fingers as he remembered.

"There should be one. Now, how did we get there?"

Dominic nodded. "I will lead the way. Dave, please clear everyone else from the main floor."

The trolls rushed in, but the gossip was already spreading through the debutante event, and only a few staff were actually inside the house.

The weddings had been stopped when Alexis alerted her father of current events, and then got the news that he would be arriving with the King of Dagos, who had just been rescued from Albroles, before the city was fully overrun by undead.

Another portal began to open near Dominic, who raised his pistols in response.

A well dressed man stepped through with his hands raised. "Warm welcome, I see. Cygnia, Dagos, good to see you again."

The two monarchs smiled back at him. "King Axbridge, forgive the Duke, he’s had a rough year."

Dominic began to lower the pistols just as more portals began to open.

"Alright, who here did not ask their King to show up for this event?" Dominic called.

A few people looked sheepish, and Dominic sighed, while Alexis tried to hide her laughter, and the King of Axbridge patted Prince Fahad on the back.

"I would expect at least Mitfield and Keria to show up. Perhaps King Amer as well."

From the new portals, someone laughed. "I brought Skiple, Chip, Amer and Bothersia with me."

The King of West Keria stepped out onto the road flanked by a pair of extremely large women, nearly two metres tall and muscular, but human as far as Dominic could tell.

Likely from one of the Barbarian tribes and hired as bodyguards.

The King of Mitfield exited the final portal, and Amie poked Dominic in the side.

"Right, we should get inside the defences of the Manor. Given past events, having multiple dignitaries standing in the open is bad news.

Your Majesties, at your leisure."

Advisor Trionne winked at him and opened one more portal, from which a preteen boy exited with a happy wave.

"Hey, everyone is here. Good to see you all again! It’s been what, fifty years since I’ve seen some of you."

The Necromancer King was... turned undead as a young boy.

Dominic knew at that moment, he was not going to have enough liquor for this meeting.
