Chapter 1533: Kraken Calls for Help
Chapter 1533: Kraken Calls for Help
"My Lord, there is no news as of yet."
Just as the adjutant’s words fell, a petrel dove from the sky and landed squarely on Governor Tyrus’s shoulder.
Clutched tightly in the bird’s talons was a Recording Orb.
This was Tyrus’s hidden countermeasure, an unspeakable secret he had planted aboard the Thunder Lion to monitor the transport crew.
Right before the Thunder Lion sank, the petrel had taken flight and returned to him.
His face dark with fury, Governor Tyrus snatched the Recording Orb and channeled the power of his Divine Sigil to activate it. The next moment, a projection flared to life.
The sight of a massive octopus dragging the Thunder Lion to the bottom of the ocean played out in crystal clarity before the two men.
"A Sovereign-class leviathan?" Tyrus hissed. "Didn’t you say those waters were safe? That there were no powerful sea monsters?"
He snapped his head around, glaring murderously at his adjutant.
The adjutant was solely responsible for charting the transport routes. The risks of every voyage were supposed to be rigorously evaluated before a ship ever set sail.
"G-Governor... My Lord, those waters have always been placid. No leviathans have ever caused trouble there."
The adjutant dropped to one knee, sweating profusely. "I swear on my life, the only Arrowfish monster that occupied that territory had already been hunted down and killed by our men. We even presented its carcass to you."
Governor Tyrus fell silent. This adjutant was his own man, a die-hard loyalist he had brought with him from the main family. He knew the man wouldn’t lie to him.
"Lord Governor, is it possible that after the Arrowfish was killed, other leviathans migrated into its territory?"
It was the most probable explanation, given that a massive octopus had undeniably appeared in those very waters.
"Whether it migrated or not, a Sovereign-class leviathan cannot be permitted to exist in that region," Tyrus said, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "That is the new maritime route our House forged to the other continent. I will not allow anything to sever that lifeline."
Tyrus narrowed his eyes, deep in thought.
The adjutant stood rigidly to the side, not daring to utter a single word. He knew better than to interrupt the Governor when he was thinking.
"Send word to the Patriarch," Tyrus finally ordered. "Have the Recording Orb sent back with the message."
"A Sovereign-class sea monster is beyond my ability to handle."
Even though a Sovereign-class beast was only equivalent to an Arch Lord, fighting a leviathan in the open ocean effectively doubled its combat prowess.
It was a universally acknowledged truth in this world: a land-dwelling powerhouse faced with a leviathan of the same tier needed at least a five-to-one numerical advantage just to secure a kill.
Therefore, to deal with a beast of this caliber, Governor Tyrus had no choice but to petition the demigods of his House.
"Anyone who dares devour the property of our Divine Sigil House—whether it was intentional or not, whether they are of the sea or not—will spit it all back out."Survivor’s Platform, Champions Alliance Public Channel.
Ever since the Deputy Commander had restructured the team’s system, the public channel had gained a new filtering function.
Right now, for instance, only members at the Arch Lord tier and above could see the messages sent by the Kraken, who had recently reached the Arch Lord level.
Kraken:Bosses! Save me!
Kraken:Leo! Orion! Where are you guys?!
Kraken:Emergency! Someone is knocking on my front door, and my ass is on fire!
The Kraken was spamming the chat frantically, but the demigod bigwigs in the alliance were either deep in slumber or occupied with their own affairs. For a moment, no one replied.
Makareth:What’s wrong? Need a hand?
Makareth:I won’t make any big promises, but against anyone below the Invincible Arch Lord tier, I’m unbeatable!
The first to respond was the Demon Makareth.
Because he had carved out a sizable territory for himself in the World of Eldoria—and because it wasn’t like the Abyss, requiring meticulous management—Makareth had been spending most of his time in Eldoria lately.
Kraken:The enemies are demigod phantom wills. Do you dare come?
Makareth:Uh, hey, Blackie, I just remembered I got a thing. I’ll call you later.
Faced with demigods, Makareth instantly pulled a forced offline, metaphorically turning off his phone and making himself unreachable.
Makareth was reckless and crazy, but he wasn’t stupid. Forget a demigod; even a slightly stronger Invincible Arch Lord could beat him until he cried for his mother.
Hulk:I’m at the sealing temple at the bottom of the sea. Leonidas is on the mainland. Are you in trouble?
Not long after, Orion, who was browsing the trading platform with a sliver of his consciousness, entered the public channel and replied.
Kraken:Orion! My real body is trapped at the bottom of the ocean. I don’t dare step outside!
Kraken:Two demigods are pounding on my door! They want to pull my tendons, skin me alive, drink my blood, and turn my tentacles into sashimi!
Leonidas:Which blind fools dare bully my brother?
Leonidas:Squiddy, do you want me to break their legs?
Before Orion could say another word, Leonidas barged into the public channel, hollering at the top of his lungs.
Leonidas:By the way, do octopuses even have tendons?
Leonidas:Also, I has never tried massive octopus sashimi before. Squiddy, wanna satisfy my curiosity?
Leonidas:Your tentacles regenerate anyway, right? Slice off ten or eight of them for me. I won’t complain if it’s too little, I just want a taste.
Leonidas had a terrible habit of losing his seriousness at the most critical moments.
Kraken:Boss! Save me!
Kraken:They’ve cornered me in my own lair! They’re about to ransack my house!
Kraken:As for the sashimi, all you can eat! I’ll stuff you full!
The Kraken’s desperate sincerity actually left Leonidas speechless. He really had just been joking around.
Hulk:Record your coordinates on a teleportation scroll. I’ll descend with a phantom will to assist you.
Not wanting to get dragged into Leonidas and the Kraken’s comedic routine, Orion cut straight to the chase.
Leonidas:Relax. Did you really think anyone could just bully my people and get away with it?
Though Leonidas didn’t express it as straightforwardly as Orion, given his bond with the Kraken, there was no way he was going to sit back and watch.
Kraken:Oh, thank the heavens!
Kraken:You guys have no idea! I’m so scared I’ve shrunk myself into a ball and I’m hiding in a little bottle!
Kraken:I’m shivering over here!
He was pouring out his grievances and venting his terror, though how much of it was exaggeration was hard to tell.
Being trapped at your own front door by two demigods was an incredibly suffocating experience; even Orion would have found it unbearable back when he was an Arch Lord.
Because of that, Orion completely understood the Kraken’s plight, and understood exactly why he was being so polite.
