Chapter 1560: Enemies on Every Front
Chapter 1560: Enemies on Every Front
THOOM!
A dull, resonant boom echoed across the world. It sounded like a colossal warhammer striking the very atmospheric barrier of the realm, sending shockwaves through every living creature. Immediately after, a blinding light pierced the firmament, driving away the absolute darkness.
"What is that?"
Seraphina had been staring at the sky ever since Orion left, her eyes swimming with curiosity and doubt. She had heard the muffled explosion before she saw the light. The sound hadn’t traveled through the air; it was the physical vibration of the world’s cosmic laws being struck.
"Orion!"
As the one who shared his bed, Seraphina instantly recognized the silhouette in the light. It was her man. Up in the heavens, Orion had fully extended his eight arms in a heavenward embrace, as if he were trying to hold up the blinding mass of light above him. The imagery looked like an ancient myth carved into a Horde’s stone monolith.
She wasn’t the only one who witnessed this. The Human Demigod, Evander, and the Siren Demigod, Kairon, saw it too.
"A falling star?"
"Orion?"
"It’s the enemy!"
On another continent, Evander stood atop Mount Demigod. His initial confusion rapidly morphed into shock, culminating in a sudden cry of alarm.
Meanwhile, out in the oceans. A Siren—a leviathan even more massive than a dragon, its lower half a writhing mass of tentacles—breached the surface of the deep sea and stared up at the radiant sky.
"An eight-armed phantom?"
"That’s Giant King Orion’s battle form!"
"Who is he fighting?"
"The insectoids!"
Illuminated by the blinding light, the colossal phantom of the Stoneheart Titan was impossible to miss. Siren Demigod Kairon instantly recognized Orion. Before Kairon could even react, a majestic aura erupted from the direction of the Titan Continent. A Mermaid with iridescent, prismatic scales propelled herself into the sky.
"Seraphina!"
Seeing Seraphina take flight, Kairon didn’t hesitate. He flared his fins, his tentacled tail churning the seawater as he launched himself into the heavens.
On the other side of the world, Evander naturally sensed the movements of the two ocean Demigods.
"We have to test the enemy’s strength, no matter what they are!" Evander muttered. Transforming into a streak of holy light, he tore into the sky after them.
...
High in the exosphere, the Titan and the Insectoid Abomination stood at an impasse.
In truth, the blinding flash of light had been the resulting shockwave of Orion melting down the giant shield condensed by the Divine Templar into a law-infused energy bomb, and detonating it against the enemy.
Unfortunately, even an energy bomb packing that much devastating power failed to crack the asteroid-sized Broodmother’s defenses. If the strike achieved anything at all, it was that the clash between Orion and the Broodmother had prematurely shattered the darkness shrouding the world, alerting everyone to the insectoids’ descent earlier than intended. It was precisely because of this that Seraphina, Evander, and Kairon were able to detect the anomaly and rush to his aid.
Moments later, Seraphina, Evander, and Kairon arrived, taking their positions behind Orion. Together, they stared up at the plummeting, planetary-sized Broodmother.
"What in the hell is that?" Seraphina breathed, the sheer terror in her beautiful eyes giving her an eerie, fragile grace.
"Is this the Insectoid Race?" Kairon’s eyes were locked onto the celestial abomination, the tentacles behind him thrashing restlessly. His core was gripped by a deep unease. He could sense twelve distinct auras radiating from that Broodmother, none of which were any weaker than his own.
"How can there be so many?"
It was obvious Evander felt the exact same way. Facing that many peers of identical rank instilled a chilling dread.
"Orion!" While Evander and Kairon were still paralyzed by the sheer scale of the threat, Seraphina stepped up beside him. Gripping the Sea God’s Trident, Moonwake, she struck a combat stance, making it clear she was ready to die by his side. Her intention was absolute: she would follow Orion’s lead, advancing and retreating as one.
Yet, Orion remained silent. His brow was knitted in a heavy scowl, his gaze dead-locked on the Broodmother asteroid.
"Giant King, we should..." Evander and Kairon stepped forward, preparing to fight alongside Orion.
But before the Human Demigod could even finish his sentence, twelve devastating attacks rained down from the Broodmother—six of which were locked directly onto their position.
"Fall back!"
Only then did Orion finally move and issue a command. Under Evander and Kairon’s bewildered gazes, Orion grabbed Seraphina and bolted straight back toward his territory.
Evander and Kairon weren’t stupid. If Orion was running, there was no way in hell they were staying behind to face that alone. In the blink of an eye, all four native Demigods of the Titanion Realm vanished without a trace.
...
The South, City of Blessings.
Within the Blood Elf royal palace, Broodmother Laito perched on Rommath’s shoulder, staring up at the heavens alongside its master. The spectacle was simply too overwhelming; Rommath was practically catatonic with shock.
Laito, however, was a completely different story. It tilted its head back, its beady little eyes twitching frantically as a manic voice screamed in its mind.
It’s Insect Queen Moriphara! She’s descended!
The integration is complete. The holy war is about to begin. This is my chance to ascend!
Fight! Bleed each other dry! The more chaotic, the better!
Horath, Antarid... just you wait. I’m going to devour you both.
Laito was intimately familiar with everything currently unfolding in the Titanion Realm. In the past, it had followed Insect Queen Moriphara on crusades to conquer foreign worlds in this exact same manner. Laito knew exactly what transpired during these invasions. Simply put, it knew when to strike and snatch up resources, and when to bury itself deep underground to evade the grand swarm’s purging sweeps.
There are far too few Demigods in the Titanion Realm. I have to lure in external factions. It’s the only way to plunge the board into total chaos and draw out the war.
I need to find a way to broadcast this world’s coordinates to the void. Otherwise, with Moriphara’s overwhelming power, she’ll conquer everything before I ever get the chance to rise.
As Laito roared internally, its eyes gleamed with cold calculation. It had to drag more external forces into the Titanion Realm—preferably Demigod factions that were natural enemies of the insectoids. Only then would the foreign forces be forced to ally with the native powers of the Titanion Realm to hold off the swarm.
...
City of Stoneheart, The Castle.
By the time Orion and Seraphina touched down, the insectoids’ bombardments were already raining down across the globe.
"Giant King, why did we retreat?"
"Giant King, what exactly did you see?"
The moment Orion found his footing, the Demigod phantoms of Kairon and Evander manifested one after the other. They had tracked him all the way back. Orion had been the first one in the sky; if they didn’t figure out exactly what he had deduced, neither Kairon nor Evander would be able to sleep at night.
Orion shot the two a look. The Siren was blunt, while the Human was slightly more tactful.
"The insectoids have descended, and their forces are far more terrifying than we imagined," Orion said flatly. "You two should head back to your territories immediately."
The abrupt, seemingly disjointed dismissal left Evander and Kairon baffled. But Orion’s next words drained the blood from their faces.
"This world’s landmass has expanded exponentially. The newborn cosmic laws will suppress our divine power, significantly shrinking your sensory range. And this new world hasn’t just drawn in the insectoids. Three entirely unfamiliar Demigod auras have just breached our atmosphere and touched down in different corners of the globe."
"If you don’t get back right now, your own backyards are going to burn to the ground."
