Chapter 1608: Forged Demigods
Chapter 1608: Forged Demigods
Orion appreciated people who got straight to the point. He extended a hand and forged The Primordial Pact with Tolenna.
It wasn’t that The Primordial Pact was absolutely binding, but having the contract witnessed by the Commander gave both of them peace of mind.
Seeing their terms settled, Commander Thresh tossed a Blade Token to Orion.
"Leonidas and Alexander alone won’t be enough to hold The Bastion Wall," the Commander said.
Orion kept his thoughts to himself, but he knew if Leonidas and Alexander had heard that, their pride would have been wounded.
"I’ve assigned you eight Blade Guards," the Commander continued. "They’re waiting for you at the foot of the mountain. You should recognize Kael and Roric among them."
Orion froze, a wave of unspeakable shock washing over him. If he remembered correctly, every single Blade Guard was a demigod. The Commander casually handing over eight demigods completely shattered Orion’s understanding of his own backing.
"What, losing your composure already?" Commander Thresh smirked, clearly enjoying the reaction.
"I know what it took for me to reach the demigod stage," Orion replied. "I know how hard it is to cultivate one. Aside from raw talent, the sheer amount of faith and territory required is incalculable."
The Commander shook his head. Instead of explaining, he dropped a truth that nearly left Orion reeling.
"The Blade Guards are a special type of construct. They excel at holding a fortress, but they lack offensive initiative. Use them as you see fit."
Orion was completely speechless.
The Titan continent. Stoneheart City.
Ever since Elara, the eldest daughter of the Horde, had returned, arcane fireworks bloomed over the city every night. The displays were beautiful and heartwarming, offering the citizens a much-needed sense of peace. According to Elara, it was a projection of power—and a hidden arcane surveillance net that deterred petty criminals.
In a side chamber of the Horde Hall, Elara, Lilith, and Onyx sat at their respective desks, each buried behind stacks of administrative paperwork. Unlike Lilith and Onyx, the files in front of Elara were exclusively intelligence reports regarding her younger brothers.
"Mother, it seems little Pallas has finally grown up," Elara remarked.
She held the exact report Lilith had read earlier—the one detailing Pallas’s romantic escapades in the Verdant Cloud Realm.
Lilith sighed heavily. She set down her pen and took several long sips of tea to soothe her lingering irritation.
Nearby, Onyx buried his face in a ledger, pretending he hadn’t heard Elara’s comment. However, the slight twitch of his ears betrayed his burning curiosity. The flames of gossip had been well and truly stoked.
"My brother is lazy," Elara continued. "Having a woman around to keep him in line isn’t a bad thing."
To the surprise of both Lilith and Onyx, Elara showed no sign of anger or jealousy. Looking at Elara, realization dawned on Lilith. The eldest daughter of the Horde had completely given up on her son—at least, in terms of marriage.
"Are you and the prophet surprised, Mother?" Elara asked. "Because we grew up together? Childhood sweethearts who were supposedly a perfect match?"
Lilith remained silent, while Onyx gave a subtle nod.
"I know the entire Horde was rooting for us. For a while, I thought the same. I didn’t object to Father’s arrangement at all; I was actually grateful for it." Elara set Pallas’s file aside and picked up the reports on Caelus, Kronos, and Kaelen, comparing them. "But children grow up. My brother grew up, and so did I. He has made his choices, and I will make mine."
She looked up at Lilith. "Mother, Pallas was sheltered. He never suffered or left the Stoneheart Horde. Considering that, his current performance is actually quite good. He shares the Giant King’s bloodline. As a scion of the Stoneheart Titan progenitor, he is inherently of higher standing. If he is to grow, he needs to see the world. He has to weather its endless temptations... only then can he conquer more women and territory. Mother, my brother isn’t useless."
It was the truth. Backed by Orion’s Stoneheart Titan bloodline, Pallas, as a first-generation son, was seen as royalty by outsiders, regardless of his flaws. He just fell slightly short when compared to his brothers.
"You think too highly of him," Lilith said, flashing a warm, maternal smile—just as gentle as the day she first met Elara.
Hearing Elara’s reasoning, Lilith finally accepted that with Orion’s bloodline, Pallas’s ultimate achievements wouldn’t be poor. The heavy weight in her heart finally lifted.
"To be honest, I’m more interested in my two unborn siblings than Pallas and the others," Elara admitted. "From what I’ve gathered, their mothers are either demigods or on the verge of becoming ones. Mother, once things settle down here, shall we go visit them together?"
Lilith nodded, agreeing to the request. In truth, even if Elara didn’t go, the moon elf Isilra would likely visit them on her own initiative.
"The Clayfolk Race has formally requested to join the Stoneheart Horde," Lilith said, transitioning back to official business. She pulled out a document and passed it to Elara and Onyx. "They wish to visit the Horde Hall in the near future. What are your thoughts?"
"Four Arch Lords and a batch of exceptionally gifted youngsters," Onyx mused after reviewing the file. "To them, the Stoneheart Horde is probably just a basket to keep their eggs safe."
He didn’t know the specifics of the Clayfolk Race’s situation, but sending their youth to the Titan continent was a clear survival tactic.
"Furthermore, I suspect the Clayfolk Race has already signed treaties with other factions in different worlds," Onyx added. "Taking them in will likely draw the ire of an unknown enemy. I suggest we reject their request or simply put them on ice and ignore them."
Onyx narrowed his eyes at the intelligence report, radiating caution.
"If—and I mean if—they genuinely want to join the Stoneheart Horde, then we make them wait until the Glory Points system is implemented. Let them earn Glory Points to exchange for the status and treatment they desire. Handling foreign factions this way will ensure we gain actual allies." Onyx set the document down, finalizing his stance.
