Chapter 1197: Chapter 38: Three Families
Like a heat wave, the speakers seemed able to blow against the skin, wave after wave, causing the heart to pound wildly along with them.
Phantom lights, sounds of revelry, stacked into a pyramid of wine glasses, with blue flames burning atop the glasses.
Apart from two teammates, there were two other guys, several women, all freely dancing in front of this circular booth.
The table was cluttered with numerous bottles of alcohol.
At this moment, Dong Shaofeng held a bottle in his hand, having drunk about half, as if he were an outsider, watching the madness of the people in front of him.
As for them beginning to passionately kiss, with intoxicated expressions, he merely watched expressionlessly.
A glamorous woman twisted her way over to Dong Shaofeng’s side, entwining like a water snake, passionately kissing near his ear, moving down to provoke him excessively.
Dong Shaofeng lowered his head, looking at the woman’s face with a hint of wanton expression, as if he saw it covered with maggots… crawling all over her face, it started to rot, extremely ugly.
But that wasn’t real, it was just his feeling… the woman’s face was considered delicate, her figure was the best among this group of women, an enchantress.
Finally, the woman was unsatisfied with such minor teasing, she lifted her head, eyes like silk, holding Dong Shaofeng’s face and slowly approaching, evidently wanting to demand a passionate kiss.
“Go away.”
Perhaps the music was too explosive, or a torrent within overwhelmed sanity, or maybe for other reasons, the woman was momentarily surprised, then continued her action.
“Go away.”
In the end, she did hear it clearly… then furrowed her brows slightly, snorted coldly, left disinterestedly… because this man’s gaze, really cold.
After the woman walked away, a teammate perplexedly came over and sat down, “Young Master Feng, what’s wrong, she upset you?”
“You guys have fun.” Dong Shaofeng directly stood up, casually picked up a freshly opened and untouched bottle of beer, “I’ve paid the bill.”
“Young Master Feng? Young Master Feng… what the heck?”
Dong Shaofeng instantly walked into the group of partying young people, disappearing after a while… another teammate curiously asked, “What’s up with that?”
“Who cares, it’s not the first time… let’s continue!!”
Being young is great, not fighting means not knowing a good body, lost in debauchery.
…
The silver Mercedes SLC sped along the riverside highway, the roaring engine reaching its loudest as it passed over the bridge, then suddenly halted.
Walking up to the riverbank railing, the damp cold wind made Dong Shaofeng feel comfortable all over… the alcohol tolerance honed from long-term nightclub training hadn’t made him unable to walk because he drank too much, just feeling fiery.
He looked across the river, mostly old buildings.
He remembered, in elementary school, where he lived was right across the river… the lights over there were the lights of thousands of households, the lights here were a dizzying array, cold neon lights.
No telling which side is better… perhaps, only when each gazes upon each other’s side, is there a trace of longing.
Dong Shaofeng slowly let out a breath, suddenly took out his phone, clicked on the chat interface of that person called Zhao Le, began typing.
—Have you slept.
—What do you want again!
—Go to your front door now, start frog-jumping from downstairs, and send me the video.
—You’re crazy!!
—I’m only waiting for five minutes… starting the timer.
One minute, two minutes, three minutes… four minutes and thirty seconds, Dong Shaofeng hardly blinked, just stared at the screen, gradually lost in thought.
Finally, the phone suddenly vibrated, the screen began refreshing with short videos.
Despite the dim light, the camera kept shaking, the person being manipulated at this moment indeed started frog-jumping the stairs at home, you could even hear the gasping sounds.
One segment of video for each set of stairs, one after another, Dong Shaofeng leaned against the railing, letting the cold wind blow, sipping the alcohol.
—Done jumping!
—Do gymnastics.
—What??
—Broadcast gymnastics, set fifteen or… continue frog-jumping downstairs.
Before long, new videos were sent… this time he didn’t even click open, just tilted his head, staring at the pitch-black sky.
So disgusting.
Zhao Le is… so am I.
He thought so, then threw the bottle away, got into the car, sending a text before driving away.
—Good night.
…
“Shaofeng’s back!” The charming woman quickly walked up, full of concern, “Why do you smell like alcohol, where did you go crazy?”
Dong Shaofeng looked at his mother, then glanced at the man sitting in the living room, reading the newspaper… his father.
“It’s so late, is there anything?” Dong Shaofeng casually responded.
“What’s with your attitude?” Finally, the middle-aged man holding the newspaper put it down, raised his head over, filled with authority, “All day not learning well, only know to live lavishly, is my money for you to spend like this?”
“Alright, alright, the child is still young, don’t get angry, slowly educate him.” The woman beside spoke gently.
“It’s always like this, whenever I speak, you just cling, an indulgent mother spoils the child!” Dong father snorted coldly, “Starting today, no pocket money for three months!”
Dong Shaofeng watched this expressionlessly.
—Ah, so disgusting.
—They are.
—So am I.
At this moment, Dong mother walked to the man’s side, sat down, patted her husband’s shoulder, “Calm down, the child is still young and doesn’t understand.”
—Stop, please.
“You, always just knowing to side! I blame you!”
—Aren’t you tired.
“Yes, yes, I’m at fault, have you calmed down?” Dong mother shook her head.
—Aren’t you exhausted.
Only then did Dong father let out a breath, glared at Dong Shaofeng, “And you, quickly go take a shower! Smelling like booze, is that decent?”
—I understand.
Dong Shaofeng said nothing, casually nodded, then walked toward the stairs.
“Oh yes, Shaofeng, the day after tomorrow is your birthday, your father and I have decided, we’ll fly to Paris tomorrow night to celebrate your birthday properly.” Dong mother said with a smile, “See, your father still cares about you, even took two days off from the company.”
—That’s enough.
—That’s quite enough.
—It’s alright now.
Dong Shaofeng ultimately stopped, turned around, “That’s enough! Stop acting!”
“What did you say!” Dong father immediately furrowed his brows.
Dong Shaofeng sneered, “If you want to discipline me, that’s fine. But first, deal with your mistresses. Mom, you too, before you play the role of a doting mother, please stop wandering around with your boyfriend all day… Aren’t you all tired of each other by now? You probably find each other disgusting, don’t you?”
After saying this, Dong Shaofeng didn’t return to his room but instead went out the door.
“Stop! Where are you going!!” Father Dong shouted angrily.
Dong Shaofeng waved his hand without turning back, “Going to squander money.”
After the door closed, Father Dong grabbed a teacup and smashed it onto the ground, then shot a cold glance at the woman sitting on the sofa.
“In that case, let’s not go to Paris then. I’ll fly to Sabah in a couple of days for a vacation,” the woman said, standing up casually.
Father Dong replied coldly, “Suit yourself… But you’d better watch your behavior. The company is preparing to go public, and I don’t want any scandalous rumors.”
“Take care of yourself first.” The woman sneered as she went upstairs.
…
…
When opening the door, Zhao Le tried to be as careful as possible, not wanting to make any noise—but suddenly, the lights in the living room turned on.
Zhao Le was taken aback, only to see Zhang Xiaoqin sitting in a wheelchair, right by the light switch.
“Xiao Le, it’s so late, where did you go? Why are you all sweaty?”
“Oh, it’s nothing.” Zhao Le turned around to close the door, adjusting his emotions, and then turned back with a smile, saying, “I couldn’t sleep, so I went downstairs for a run.”
He quickly grabbed a blanket from the sofa, walked over to Zhang Xiaoqin, and covered her with it, “Sis, did you wake up again?”
Zhang Xiaoqin shook her head and suddenly grabbed Zhao Le’s hand, “Xiao Le, I just had a dream and woke up.”
“A dream?” Zhao Le was stunned for a moment, then crouched down, holding Zhang Xiaoqin’s hands…her hands were a bit cold, so he started rubbing them, “What dream?”
“I don’t know, I don’t know where it was.” Zhang Xiaoqin shook her head, still looking a bit scared, “It was just you and me left, and you were walking away from me. The further you walked, the more I couldn’t catch up. I called for you, but you couldn’t hear me, just kept walking, walking… I couldn’t move, couldn’t catch up… then you disappeared, and I woke up.”
“I’m right here.” Zhao Le grabbed his sister’s hand and placed it on his face, “I’m here, how could I disappear? What do you think, I can do magic or something? Don’t worry, it’s just a dream! Nightmares aren’t real!”
“That’s right.” Zhao Xiaoqin laughed and pinched Zhao Le’s face.
Zhao Le asked, “Sis, are you hungry? Want me to fix you something to eat?”
“Are you trying to make me fat? No thanks!” Zhang Xiaoqin rolled her eyes, “I spend all day either sitting or lying down, just look at my belly rolls!”
“Sis, you have a great figure.” Zhao Le smiled, “Isn’t that why you do therapy every day? Any fat would have burned off by now! Burn my calories~”
“Pfft…”
“I made some green onion oil and crispy bits. How about some green onion oil noodles?” Zhao Le blinked.
Zhang Xiaoqin’s face twisted in playful struggle, and she forcefully pinched Zhao Le’s cheeks, pulling them outward, “Are you serious?!!”
“If you don’t want it, I won’t make it.” Zhao Le grinned mischievously.
“You’re asking for it!”
Zhang Xiaoqin, unable to hold back, pretended to hit him; Zhao Le quickly stood up and happily ran off to the kitchen, “Ten minutes, sis, just wait.”
“You brat… add more onion oil!” Zhang Xiaoqin eyes narrowed with a smirk, she watched Zhao Le get busy, then she laughed again, joking, “If I get fat and no one wants me, and I can’t get married, you’ll deserve to cook for me forever!”
Zhao Le chuckled, took out the noodles, and put them in the pan.
As the noodles began to cook, steam rose into the air, and they started whispering to each other.
They talked about childhood days catching crickets together, stealing watermelons from the neighbor’s farm.
They talked about watching Ultraman and Sailor Moon as kids, about how Zhang Xiaoqin would never let go of the TV remote, how Zhao Le once took her chicken drumstick during the New Year and made her cry.
They reminisced about the past, talked about the future, all beautiful things.
…
…
The lights in the living room were on, but just the wall lamps and desk lamps.
When opening the door, Chen Mingming noticed, so she moved very quietly.
On the sofa lay a woman in a women’s suit, surrounded by piles of documents on the table… She held a document in her hand, but had fallen asleep.
Chen Mingming didn’t say anything, just went to the kitchen to make some ginseng tea, brought it to the woman’s side, and placed it on the small table, tidying up the scattered documents.
“Your dad came by.”
The woman on the sofa didn’t open her eyes, just massaged her temples, her figure appearing tired as she spoke.
“Got it.” Chen Mingming casually picked up the ashtray from the table, discarding the butts.
“If your dad contacts you these days, just ignore him,” the woman added.
Chen Mingming acknowledged with a sound, tidied the living room, and went to the fridge for a bottle of water.
The woman asked again, “Have you packed everything? We’re leaving next week, should be staying gone for the rest of the year, pack carefully or you won’t find things later.”
“We’ll talk later.” Chen Mingming answered casually, heading towards her room.
Only then did the woman open her eyes and call out, “Mingming, Uncle Cai is really nice. He has his own business in Canada, and Mom plans to not only work with him but also rebuild a family there. He’s very willing to accept you, so when we get there, communicate more with Uncle Cai, okay?”
Chen Mingming turned to her mother, speaking softly, “It’s night, you should get some rest.”
The woman nodded, smiling, “You’ve grown up, and know what’s best for yourself. Mom has always believed in you.”
“Remember to drink the ginseng tea,” Chen Mingming replied before heading into her room.
After closing the door, there was almost no sound.
Chen Mingming returned to her desk, glanced at her phone, with several unread texts from Zhou Yusheng over the past few days.
After skimming through them, she placed her phone back on the charging dock.
It was too quiet, time for some noise…
Anything will do.
She put on her headphones and lay down on the desk.
