Chapter 488: Sisi Has Fallen Out of Favor
Chapter 488: Sisi Has Fallen Out of Favor
Little Dudu was usually very easy to talk to, except when he was hungry and got a bit grouchy. He could enjoy himself all alone on the kang bed, kicking his legs around and babbling away, or continuously blowing bubbles, making his bib in front of him all wet. It needed to be changed several times a day.
Every member of the family adored Dudu dearly, even Grandpa Mu, who usually had a stern face, would bloom into a chrysanthemum smile at the sight of Dudu, planting several firm kisses on the chubby little face.
Grandpa Mu was already 80 years old. When he first arrived, he was so frail that he could barely walk, and he looked so spiritless it was worrisome. But now, with Qiong Wine to nourish him, he gradually regained his vitality, and the wrinkles on his face diminished quite a bit. He looked as if he could easily live another twenty years.
After Dudu’s first month celebration, Mu Xiulan returned to Hong Kong, and Grandpa Mu and Grandma Mu followed their daughter’s return. They planned to go to Hong Kong to see their son-in-law — after all, whether he was good or not, they could only rest assured after seeing it with their own eyes, not just hearing about it from their daughter.
Not long after, Jin Wanming also returned to Sui City. Tian Manmu called several times to urge her to come back, so Jin Wanming had to take many photos of Dudu and leave reluctantly.
The Spring Festival of 1985 arrived quickly. Unlike previous years, this year’s celebration was particularly lively. He Xuewen and his wife, Tian Manmu and his wife, Tian Manjin and his wife, along with the young men, Donghua and Qinghua, crammed into the four cave dwellings.
The recently returned Jin Wanming said with a giggling smile, "Once they saw Dudu’s photos, how could they bear not to come? They almost wished they could fly over. If Granny and your grandfather didn’t have things to take care of at home, they would want to come over to see Dudu too!"
Fortunately, the house that Mr. Yun had borrowed from the County Committee Building was not yet returned, so there was enough room for everyone to stay, and it was also close by — just a few steps away.
Qinghua failed the college entrance exam last year. Tian Manjin and Zhu Aiqing wanted him to repeat the year, but Qinghua refused. He really didn’t like studying; he’d rather work in the ponds and fields than be cooped up in a classroom.
Although Tian Manjin and his wife were somewhat disappointed that their younger son couldn’t attend university, they were quite open-minded. Plus, the Old Man said that among the three hundred sixty-five trades, there’s a champion in each. Not everyone has to make a living by the pen!
Thus, Qinghua put down the pen and followed Tian Manjin closely to learn. Because he was willing to endure hardship and study hard, and he was also educated and motivated, it wasn’t long before he became an excellent helper for Tian Manjin. It was believed that Green Health Company would reach new heights under his management.
Both Donghua and Qinghua had inherited the Tian Family’s good looks, tall and formidable. And because they were well-nourished since childhood, they grew up even more striking than in their previous lives. Moreover, due to their superior family conditions, they had an added sense of confidence which enhanced the charm of these young men.
Seeing her two spirited younger brothers, Sisi was overwhelmed with mixed emotions. This lifetime’s Tian Family was no longer the ordinary farming family of the previous life, and she believed that her brothers’ life trajectories would certainly not be as mediocre as before and would definitely be more splendid.
Three months old Dudu was both chubby and heavy. He had just been weighed and was a whole twenty pounds, to Sisi’s amazement. She remembered that a normal three-month-old baby was only about thirteen or fourteen pounds. Could her son being this chubby be abnormal?
Before she knew it, her thoughts had slipped out and were met with unanimous reproach:
"What kind of mother calls her own son abnormal? I think you’re the abnormal one. Babies are supposed to be chubby and cute. Do you really want to see Dudu all skinny?" Zhu Aiqing gave Sisi a disdainful look.
"That’s right, it shows that our Dudu eats well and is well-nourished; he’s sure to be smarter and more capable than other children!" Jin Wanming added.
Well, Jin Wanming’s words turned out to be prophetic, as Tian Tianyi indeed became a brilliant troublemaker, intellectually and physically top-notch!
Sisi sulkily clamped her mouth shut, alright, now she’s totally fallen out of favor. The indignant Sisi glumly shrugged her nose at the little rascal squirming in Donghua’s embrace, thinking her mother was playing with her. Dudu started giggling adorably, making everyone burst into laughter, and even Sisi couldn’t help but laugh.
Dudu really liked his two uncles. He would stretch out his chubby little arms toward Donghua, babbling away, and in the beginning, Donghua and Qinghua were afraid to hold this soft, squishy bundle, worried they’d accidentally drop him.
However, they eventually couldn’t resist the adorably irresistible charm of a certain toothless little rascal and gingerly held him. Then they became totally hooked, feeling empty and restless if they didn’t hug him for a while each day.
Thus, the boundlessly loyal "puppy" uncles were born and years later embarked on the marathon project of joyful yet painful diaper changing.
One day, Donghua and Qinghua took little Dudu out for a stroll again. Ever since Donghua first took Dudu out to play, Dudu fell in love with the joy of walking outdoors. After waking up from his nap, he would regularly turn his round little head toward his beloved uncles, flailing his chubby arms and flashing a toothless smile.
Thus, Donghua and Qinghua would put fully armed pudgy Dudu into a stroller, and under a multitude of cautions and concerns from everyone, they took little Dudu out for a jaunt.
Several days remained until New Year’s Eve, and the County Committee couldn’t take a holiday until the 30th, so the County Committee Building was as busy as usual. Because of the upcoming New Year, family members were bustling around preparing special purchases or cleaning, making it even more lively.
Since Dudu had been taken out daily, everyone knew these two good-looking young men were Mr. He’s brothers, and that the fair, plump, cute little rascal was the Deputy Secretary’s son.
Occasionally people would greet Donghua and others playfully interacted with Dudu. And Dudu, always a good sport, would laugh merrily no matter who teased him, becoming very popular and attracting even more admirers who would come by just to say hello to little Dudu.
Little Dudu also thoroughly enjoyed interacting with these people, visibly overjoyed. But eventually, just wandering around the County Committee Building wasn’t enough for him. When they approached the main gate, he would make excited sounds pointing outside.
Thus, the two indomitable uncles brought the little guy outside where more people and vehicles were present. With the continuous honking of cars, Dudu became even happier, wiggling non-stop in the stroller and craning his neck as if searching for the sources of these sounds.
Donghua and Qinghua would then dote on their little nephew, convinced there was no child smarter or cuter than their own little nephew in the whole wide world.
But what they didn’t notice was that in the bustling and harmonious streets, several sinister gazes were darting their way, flickering on and off.
The next day, Donghua visited a college classmate’s home, for which Sisi prepared some gifts. One couldn’t pay a visit before the New Year empty-handed, as it would be impolite.
Qinghua, accompanied by Tian Manmu, Tian Manjin, and their family of four, went on a rural excursion under Old Xu’s guidance.
Since land resources in Sui City were scarce, Tian Qinghua learned that Huangyuan County had a lot of vacant land and became interested. He thought of contracting land here, both to expand the company’s size and increase revenue.
Of course, the main reason was that their Sixth Brother was here as the Deputy Secretary. It would be foolish not to make use of such a great resource!
As for Tian Manjin, since he could often see his daughter and little grandson, he agreed to his youngest son’s suggestion without hesitation.
