Chapter 545 - 538: Four Little Monks
Chapter 545: Chapter 538: Four Little Monks
Having just finished organizing Li Yuzhi’s wedding feast, the end of June arrived in the blink of an eye. Sisi had completed her school duties, and Tian Xinhua had already handed over his responsibilities to Hu Dingkun. Before the new secretary arrived, Hu Dingkun would preside over the work in Huangyuan County.
All the home furniture, cotton quilts, kitchen belongings, and the like were given away by Sisi. She let Su Ping and Zhang Rumeng choose first; what remained, she bundled up and gave to the family next door, the Wu Jingsongs. Wu Jingsong married a rural woman last year, and his life was very tight - they were in great need of these items.
Sisi and Tian Xinhua purposely chose to leave at dawn, as Hu Dingkun, Zhu Xianren, Old Xu, and others had already expressed their wishes to see them off. Tian Xinhua refused their offer, hoping to avoid the sadness of parting by leaving before daybreak.
However, as the car drove out of the County Committee Building’s gates, the entrance was unexpectedly filled with a swarming crowd. Employees from the distillery, residents from the County Committee Building, teachers and students from Sisi’s school, and many unrecognizable faces crowded the road.
Tian Xinhua hurriedly stopped the car, opened the door, and gestured to the crowd with a wave.
Hu Dingkun approached with a smile, "Secretary Tian, that’s not friendly of you. Didn’t we agree to see you and Mr. He off? How can you leave without saying goodbye?"
"Yes, Secretary Tian, you’ve led us to better lives. Now that you’re leaving, how can we not come to see you off? We Huangyuan people are not ungrateful," shouted a bold man from the crowd, with others echoing in agreement.
Tian Xinhua’s eyes welled up with warmth as he looked at the sincere eyes before him, feeling undeserving of such regard.
In truth, he wasn’t as good as they thought. All he had ever done was to climb up the ranks as quickly as possible, to reach a high position, and to become a solid support for Sisi and Dudu.
His life’s goal had never been about improving the villagers’ livelihood. The most straightforward way to climb the ranks was to enhance the local economy, and that’s why he did what he did, making Huangyuan a wealthy county.
He felt unworthy of such fervent affection.
The villagers were extremely enthusiastic, each bringing gifts like homemade shoe pads, flour sculptures, steamed buns, dried meat, eggs, and more. Eventually, there was no more room in the car, and they had to stop.
"Secretary Tian, Mr. He, have a safe trip!"
Tian Xinhua started the car slowly. Someone shouted something from behind, and others joined in, their voices echoing up to the sky, an impressive spectacle that even caused some vehicles to stop and see what was happening.
Tian Xinhua stopped the car again and, together with Sisi, bowed deeply to them, staying bent over for a full five minutes before rising.
By the time they got back into the car, Sisi was already sobbing uncontrollably, touched by these kindhearted villagers.
In fact, it’s quite easy to please the people of China. Just by doing a little for them, they’ll remember it as a great kindness and be sincerely grateful to you.
"Brother Xin Hua, we’ve done too little," Sisi muttered, buried in Tian Xinhua’s embrace.
Tian Xinhua nodded solemnly. His heart was not as calm as it appeared on the surface. After all, he had always aspired to be a bad person. How had he suddenly become regarded as a good person by so many?
He felt deeply ashamed!
Before taking on his new post in F City, Tian Xinhua had two months’ leave. He planned to spend it enjoying time with Sisi and Dudu. He had been so busy with work in recent years that he hadn’t properly accompanied his wife and child. He wasn’t a qualified husband and father.
They first returned to Capital City, and their small courtyard had been empty and neglected for a while, so they simply moved into Yun Mansion. Because of little Du Du, Old Man and Granny Zhao sometimes even stayed overnight at Yun Mansion.
Du Du is already three years old and he’s growing to look more and more like Tian Xinhua, although when he was just born, he closely resembled Sisi.
Little leopard is four now, but he’s sturdier than most five- or six-year-old children, and of course, he’s also more of a troublemaker.
He Chengsi’s son is the youngest, just two years old. Mr. Yun has named him Niu Jia Shi Ruilin, and his nickname, bestowed by Luo Datou, is Mao Dou, because Kang Mianhua craved edamame during her pregnancy, especially boiled edamame, and could eat a whole plate in one meal.
Mao Dou looks just like Chengsi did when he was little, with a plump, Tiger Head appearance, but his personality is more like Kang Mianhua’s—somewhat simple and exceedingly obedient. In the entire Yun Mansion, he listens to his two older brothers the most, acting like a little eager puppy; whenever little leopard or Du Du yells out, Little Maodou scampers over excitedly.
Of course, little leopard and Du Du are also fiercely protective of their younger brother. Apart from themselves, no one is allowed to bully little Maodou, not even Mr. Yun.
One day, Mr. Yun, seemingly inspired or perhaps having faced some stimulation outside, joyfully came back home and used clippers to give Mao Dou a teapot lid haircut.
In principle, a little boy with a teapot lid haircut could have been quite cute, but Mr. Yun’s skills were lacking. A push to the left, a push to the right, and he managed to shear Mao Dou’s black and glossy hair into something that looked chewed by a dog—not to mention a teapot, he couldn’t even achieve the spout.
With no other choice, Niu Erniu could only shave the teary-eyed Mao Dou bald, because Mr. Yun’s destructive prowess was simply too strong—Mao Dou’s hair was beyond salvation!
The adults didn’t think much of it—little boys with shaved heads were no big deal!
But Du Du and little leopard wouldn’t stand for it. The three brothers all had luxuriant black hair, and now one has turned into a monk, how could they take him around with pride?
Thus, on a locust-singing, breeze-soft afternoon, Du Du and little leopard took revenge for their brother. However, they only got halfway when Mr. Yun woke up with a mouthful of hair.
The result was a yin and yang hairdo!
And of course, Niu Erniu consequently shaved him bald as well!
So, Yun Mansion came to have an old monk and a little monk.
Sisi thought she could start telling a story now: Once upon a time there was a mountain, and in the mountain, there was a temple, and in the temple, there was an old monk and a little monk, and the old monk would tell stories to the little monk, about a mountain from long ago...
Annoyed, Mr. Yun had Luo Datou bring the two little culprits over, and thus, Yun Mansion gained two more little monks. Mr. Yun then went to work contentedly with his bald head.
When Sisi and the others returned, the four monks had only just begun sprouting fuzz on their heads, particularly Mr. Yun, whose head was the roundest. With his bald pate, he really did give off some high monk vibes.
"Grandpa Yun, if you wore a Kasaya and held some Buddha Beads, you could impersonate a monk and swindle your way around!" Sisi said with a giggly smile.
Mr. Yun glared at her and said grumpily, "Out of the three kids, the one you birthed is the most cunning. It was he who instigated this whole thing first."
"That just shows how well you’ve taught him, old master!" Sisi protested innocently, claiming it had nothing to do with her—how could she be responsible for the diligent teachings of their dear patriarch to the little fox!
Mr. Yun’s eyelids twitched with irritation, and he waved his hand to shoo Sisi away with disdain. This mother-daughter pair was no good—just looking at them was infuriating.
