Chapter 604 - 597: Free-for-All
Chapter 604: Chapter 597: Free-for-All
Sisi and Zhang Jie came out of the Green Home office, laughing heartily. It was 3:30 in the afternoon, and Sisi still needed to go to the courtyard to pick up Du Du and Mao Dou. Recently, for some unknown reason, the two children had been clamoring to play in the courtyard every day.
Speaking of it, the children often go to the courtyard as well. The elders of the Lei Family, Zhang Family, and Yang Family still lived there. Whenever they missed the children, they would call to have them sent over.
Sisi parked the car at the gate of the Lei Family’s house. Old Master Lei said the children were still playing at the sports ground, so Sisi went there to find them. She had to get to the Tian Family’s place early in the evening to help Granny Zhao with dinner.
The sports ground was at the far end of the courtyard, and Sisi knew the way. Zhang Jie followed her over, and they barely reached the edge of the sports ground when they heard a loud commotion of children shouting, mixed with crying. The voice sounded very familiar, like Huahua’s crying.
Sisi was startled and hurried her steps, only to see Huahua crying while riding on top of someone, hitting them. Meanwhile, Du Du and the other children were wrestling with several older kids, and other children were surrounding them, cheering. The scene was a chaotic mess, truly unbearable to watch.
Though little Huahua was crying, she seemed quite spirited, suggesting nothing was seriously wrong. Sisi couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.
"What’s going on? Why are they fighting like this?" Zhang Jie was dumbfounded.
Sisi wasn’t surprised at all. Over the years, these little rascals had gotten into more fights than any emperor ever did. If a few days went by without them fighting, she’d start worrying they might be sick.
"Stay calm. You’ll have to get used to this battling lifestyle," Sisi warned Zhang Jie in advance.
Zhang Jie: ......
If it were any other time, Sisi would just stand by and enjoy the spectacle for amusement, but today she couldn’t. She was in a hurry!
"Stop!"
A lion’s roar sounded out of nowhere, startling a flock of sparrows.
All the children uniformly stopped and stared dumbly at Sisi and Zhang Jie.
Only Du Du, with his itchy hands, took advantage of the pause to punch Jin Yufan several times. Jin Yufan wanted to hit back, but seeing Sisi and Zhang Jie on the opposite side and only an ineffectual old lady on his side, he had to swallow his pride, glaring resentfully at Du Du, muttering softly, "Just you wait!"
Du Du stuck his tongue out at him, making a goofy face.
Zhang Jie: Sisi, when did you get such a powerful voice?
Sisi: Since I had kids, my voice naturally evolved from sweet to a soprano.
Seeing Sisi and Zhang Jie, Huahua immediately cried even harder, wailing as she quickly climbed off the person on the ground, sobbing and sniffling as she came to Sisi and Zhang Jie’s side.
The little girl’s pretty and delicate face unfortunately bore five glaringly red handprints, which upon inspection, were clearly from an adult’s hand.
"Huahua, who hit you?" Sisi asked sternly.
"Wah, it was that old lady who hit me. She called me a little brat, wah, Aunt Sisi, my face really hurts!"
The little girl was deeply aggrieved, and seeing Sisi was like finding her guardian, her tears flowed more freely!
Sisi looked closely at the ground and saw that the person groaning was none other than Old Mrs. Tang.
This old lady was truly something, getting into a fight with a four-year-old. Isn’t she embarrassed?
"Huahua, don’t cry, be good. Auntie will blow on it, and it won’t hurt anymore." Sisi picked up Huahua, gently blowing on her face. The little girl was really upset, lying motionlessly against Sisi, occasionally hiccupping with sobs.
Sisi walked over to Old Mrs. Tang, looking down at her from above, and said, "Old Mrs. Tang, the Tang Family’s household etiquette must be exceptional for an old lady of your age to still be able to fight with a four-year-old. Aren’t you afraid of straining your old back?"
Old Mrs. Tang wanted to retort, but she was really out of strength. That little brat was young, but she was incredibly strong. Her old back was indeed strained; she wondered if it was broken?
Having said that, Sisi didn’t bother with her anymore, leaving with Zhang Jie and the children. No one noticed Du Du and Mao Dou mischievously pretending to fall accidentally on Old Mrs. Tang as they passed her, causing the old lady to grunt in pain, her back definitely broken this time.
Held by Sisi, Huahua immediately began to smile through her tears, feeling that the pain on her face wasn’t so bad anymore.
Upon being taken back to the Yang Family, Granny Xiang, seeing the red handprints on her precious great-granddaughter’s fair face, felt a pang of heartache. Fuming with anger, she wanted to storm into the Tang Family and give that disrespectful old lady a beating.
However, at that moment, her great-granddaughter was more important. She held back her anger, wrapped ice in a towel to put on Huahua’s face, and planned to deal with the old lady at the Tang Family later. The Yang Family was not afraid of the Tang Family.
Sisi also took a towel to wipe Du Du and Mao Dou’s faces and hands as they were rolling about on the ground, looking like dirty-faced kittens.
She didn’t bother asking why the children were fighting, knowing it was pointless as the kids wouldn’t tell her. They claimed it was their business and adults couldn’t intervene.
After comforting Huahua a little, she then took Du Du and Mao Dou with her, saying goodbye. Du Du and Mao Dou whispered into Huahua’s ear, "Next time, third brother (fourth brother) will avenge you. Don’t cry. We’re brave boys, bleed but don’t cry!"
Huahua nodded vigorously, wiping her eyes with her hands to show that she wasn’t crying.
The two kids thought they were being quiet, but everyone in the room heard them. Sisi and Granny Xiang had to hold back their laughter, pretending not to hear the children’s secret.
Because of the fight, by the time they returned to the Tian Family, Granny Zhao had already finished cooking. Feeling embarrassed, Sisi apologized, "Granny, I’m really sorry. I promised I’d be back to cook."
Granny Zhao shrugged it off, saying, "It’s not like I can’t move. Your granny’s still spry, cooking a few meals is no big deal."
Sisi smiled and said a few more nice things to coax Granny Zhao, making her chuckle with delight. Old Man in the corner hummed softly, prompting Sisi to quickly massage his shoulders, balancing his mood.
As they grew older, the elderly became more childlike, speaking and acting like kids, requiring occasional kind words to keep them cheerful.
Sisi helped Granny Zhao bring the dishes from the kitchen while Du Du and Mao Dou entertained Old Man in the living room, whose laughter never ceased. He was exceedingly happy.
Sisi felt a bit bittersweet. Now, she alternated living a month at the Yun Mansion and a month with the Tian Family because both sides required care. She knew in the month she and the kids weren’t at either house, the elders felt quite lonely. Yet, she couldn’t think of a good solution, with both sides needing attention!
