Chapter 613 - 606: Tang Family’s Hidden Line
Chapter 613: Chapter 606: Tang Family’s Hidden Line
Sisi’s hysterical shouting broke the tension, causing He Chengsi and Yuan Jin to both temper their killing intent.
Luckily, Sisi jumped out, for although Yuan Jin had met He Chengsi a few times, it was only in passing glances, so they were not familiar with each other. In this night jungle, everyone was wrapped tightly and on high alert. Any slight discord in conversation could lead to unknown consequences.
"Ah Nan, why did you run here? Are you looking for death?" He Chengsi rushed to Sisi in a frenzy.
"You’re the one courting death! You don’t know how tough I am!" Sisi glared at him discontentedly, truly not appreciating kindness.
Seeing Sisi get angry, He Chengsi hurriedly put on a smile and said nice things, leaving Dahai dumbfounded. Who would have thought that their normally stern-faced boss could be so humble? Even with the boss lady, he wasn’t this gentle!
The boss’s sister sure is mighty!
But the boss’s sister is really beautiful; I wonder if she has a boyfriend?
Sisi laughed: "No matter how tightly you wrap gold, it will always shine!"
After some introductions, they quickly bonded over their special forces backgrounds. Especially Dahai and Brother Meng, who were chatterboxes, couldn’t stop talking all night once they hit it off.
"Brother Meng, what’s our boss’s sister’s name? How old is she?" Dahai inquired mysteriously near Brother Meng’s ear.
Brother Meng looked at this kid with a half-smile; he sure dared to have ideas! Though he seemed charming, it was a pity, already too late!
"Her name is Sisi, like ’yearning.’ I don’t know her exact age, but I know her kid is already six years old."
Brother Meng leisurely dropped this truth like a frosty dart, cruelly bursting Dahai’s nascent pink bubbles of affection.
Seeing Dahai’s face fall instantly, Brother Meng felt quite cheerful, humming a little tune as he rolled the stuff over the jungle specialty on the grill.
He Chengsi happily approached, handing the medicinal wine Sisi brought to Dahai, "Quickly use the medicine, we’ve been saving it for Heizi these days; your wound might be festering badly."
"It’s nothing, just a minor wound, it’ll heal even without medicine." Dahai smiled nonchalantly.
Sisi initially thought Dahai’s wound was truly minor, but when he rolled up his pants, it made her heart wrench in discomfort. The wound on Dahai’s shin was festering with maggots, the white insects wriggling in the decayed flesh. Sisi couldn’t bear to watch and quickly turned her face away.
"These guys grow really fast, just one day without baking and they’ve grown this big." Dahai said with a grin.
"Bear with it, I’ll cut out the rotten flesh for you, otherwise it’ll reach the bone." Brother Meng pulled out a dagger, heated it over the fire, and was ready to commence his work.
Sisi quickly took out anesthesia from her bag, spraying it on Dahai’s face, kindly explaining, "This is anesthesia, it won’t hurt after the spray."
The anesthesia worked swiftly, and soon Dahai’s whole body lost sensation, only his head remaining clear.
Brother Meng worked quickly, deftly removing the decayed flesh from Dahai’s wound, revealing a blood-covered crater the size of a soup bowl, looking quite frightening. But with this clean up, and the medicinal wine Sisi brought, the injury would recover soon.
Heizi’s wound was more troublesome, as the bullet had not been extracted, and given the poor conditions of the jungle, it was a miracle he was alive with just that medicinal wine He Chengsi had brought. Yet even with it, Heizi remained deeply unconscious, with a persistent high fever, seeming on the brink of death at any moment.
"Heizi got hurt saving Dahai and me, he can’t die!" He Chengsi lamented in pain.
"Brother, what’s going on? Grandpa Yun and I suspect the military is behind this; is that true?" Sisi asked.
He Chengsi nodded hatefully, "That’s right, someone in the XN military region wants me dead, and Dahai and Heizi got caught up because of me."
"Were those two people who returned alive? They said they were ambushed, and you fell off a cliff covering for them, and later the military searched the riverbank for five days and said they didn’t find anyone." Sisi continued.
He Chengsi sneered, "Ambush? It indeed was an ambush. If it wasn’t those two bastards who plotted against us... They’re still alive? Hmph, once I get out, I’ll deal with them."
Indeed, the military was playing tricks, making Sisi grit her teeth in anger.
"Those bastards dared to fight amongst themselves? Grandpa Yun won’t let them off, but who directed them? Without cause, they wouldn’t have targeted you, right?" Sisi pondered.
He Chengsi had been pondering this for days. Initially, he suspected The Jins, but their influence was mainly in the Southeast and Central Plains regions. Though they had sway in XN, it wasn’t enough to provoke a conflict with the Yun Family through the military.
Who could it be?
"Chengsi, was it someone from the XN military region who acted against you?" Yuan Jin, who had been silent, suddenly asked.
"Yes, it was them."
Yuan Jin suddenly showed a sarcastic smile, "If I’m not mistaken, those people should be from the Tang Family."
The Tang Family?
Everyone was stunned.
He Chengsi shook his head in denial, "Impossible. The Tang Family’s power is mainly in the NJ military region, and I don’t think they have anyone in XN, do they?"
"They do. The XN military region’s Deputy Chief of Staff Spangwen is of the Tang faction, but very few know of this connection. Consider it a hidden line of the Tang Family. I only discovered this connection after suffering a big setback from that man."
From Yuan Jin’s account, everyone learned why he had retired back then.
Turns out, when Shangguan Hong helped Yuan Jin avoid military court, he hadn’t planned to retire. He loved being a soldier, only feeling happy in this role. But reality forced him out because in the days that followed, he endured several schemes. If not for his quick reflexes, he’d have been dead by now.
A straightforward threat is easy to dodge, but hidden schemes are hard. No matter how skilled, he couldn’t dodge day-after-day plots, and feeling disheartened, Yuan Jin developed a retreat mentality. Just then, he heard news of Ah Rou and filed for discharge, went to Hong Kong, and later met Sisi.
"So it’s the Tang Family; this surely involves The Jins too. The Tang Family and The Jins are now in cahoots." Sisi’s eyes burned with anger.
Yuan Jin suddenly remembered something, apologetically saying, "Could I have implicated Chengsi? The Tang Family has always harbored deep hatred for me, plotting my end all these years."
"Brother Yuan, don’t overthink it. It doesn’t have much to do with you. It’s mainly our family having conflicts with The Jins." Sisi comforted.
Yet Yuan Jin remained troubled, his expression flickering in the firelight as if deep in thought.
