Chapter 719 - 712: Starting a School Partnership
Chapter 719: Chapter 712: Starting a School Partnership
A week passed, and it was the weekend again. The injuries on Sisi’s body had healed, leaving light pink scars.
It was rare that the kids didn’t have school, so Sisi stayed in bed to catch up on her beauty sleep, knowing that Kang Mianhua and Niu Erniu were home to take care of the kids.
But, as fate would have it, her dreams were interrupted by the ringing of her phone—it was Song Mengshi calling.
Hearing Sisi’s sleepy voice, Song Mengshi sheepishly said, "I’m really sorry, I didn’t realize you were still sleeping!"
"It’s okay, what’s up?" Sisi yawned, feeling puzzled. It was the first time Song Mengshi had ever called her!
Song Mengshi hesitated for a long time, seeming to find it hard to speak. Finally, she said, "I have something I want to discuss with you. Could you meet me?"
Sisi grew even more curious. From Song Mengshi’s tone, it sounded like she needed a favor.
Could it be that Tang Qiubai was up to no good again after just recovering?
That was Sisi’s first thought.
They arranged to meet at a cafe not far from Sisi’s house. Song Mengshi had arrived early and waved with a smile when Sisi walked in.
"Freshly squeezed apple juice and tiramisu." Sisi had hurried over and hadn’t even had breakfast yet.
The juice and cake were served quickly. Sisi took a sip through the straw, finding the taste quite good, and the cake was delicious. She could tell from the first bite that the ingredients were fresh.
She didn’t speak and slowly enjoyed her breakfast, waiting for Song Mengshi to speak first.
The cake was just a small piece; Sisi finished it in a few bites and sipped on the juice to cleanse her palate, feeling a bit cloyed after the cake.
"Sisi, I have an idea that I believe, if successful, will definitely succeed. But I don’t have enough capital, and at my current rate of earning money, it would take years. By then, my idea might be outdated, so I called you to see if you’d like to partner with me."
Song Mengshi didn’t beat around the bush and was very straightforward about lacking money and wanting to start a business together.
Sisi increasingly felt that Tang Qiubai was behind this, but she kept a calm demeanor and asked, "So, what’s your idea?"
Hearing that there was a possibility, Song Mengshi happily said, "You know I teach about ten kids to draw at home on weekends. Each kid learns for two hours, and I teach two at a time. I charge 45 yuan per kid for half a day, and I earn more from these tutoring sessions than my salary. Plus, many parents proactively come to me to teach their kids. If I weren’t so busy, I could earn even more."
Sisi somewhat understood Song Mengshi’s point but didn’t speak, using her eyes to encourage Song Mengshi to continue.
Feeling encouraged, Song Mengshi continued, "So I thought of starting a drawing tutoring class so that I can teach more students. There’s no worry about not having students because most kids are only children. Their parents almost want them to be talented in everything, and I have one student who is busier on weekends than on school days—piano, calligraphy, art, foreign languages, Go, constantly on the run."
Sisi chuckled; children in China were truly pitiful. To ensure their kids didn’t lose at the starting line, parents put all their effort into nurturing them, hoping they’d become dragons or phoenixes. But they don’t realize that if children carry such a heavy burden every day, they can’t run fast even if they start earlier!
Anyway, she was determined not to let Du Du and the others bear such burdens. The training program laid out by Luo Datou was already intense enough, and as for the other leisurely things, she’d let the kids follow their own interests!
However, capitalizing on this parental mindset was indeed a good way to make a fortune. Although those kids were pitiful, even if Song Mengshi didn’t start a tutoring class, someone else would because it was the trend!
We’ve all seen how tutoring classes of all kinds sprang up like mushrooms after the rain and were hard to ban. The more you try to ban them, the more they proliferate!
Truly as the ancient poem says: "Wildfire never quite consumes, the spring breeze blows anew."
"Does Tang Qiubai know about this?" Sisi didn’t think much of the small money from opening a tutoring class, but since Song Mengshi rarely asked her for help, she would help as long as Tang Qiubai wasn’t involved.
Song Mengshi shook her head, "I haven’t told him yet because I wasn’t sure if I could find an investor. I didn’t want him to worry, so I’d tell him once it was up and running."
Sisi believed Song Mengshi as long as Tang Qiubai wasn’t involved.
"What’s your budget?" Sisi asked.
"200,000," Song Mengshi gave a figure.
The amount was smaller than Sisi had expected. It seemed Song Mengshi’s ambitions weren’t big, not planning for a large-scale school.
"And how much do you have yourself?" Sisi asked again.
A bit embarrassed, Song Mengshi replied, "50,000. And that’s what was left after Qiubai’s treatment in the US."
Sisi pondered while biting her straw. Zhang Jie, who lived on a fixed salary, wasn’t strapped for cash but wasn’t flush either. Perhaps she could involve Zhang Jie in setting up the tutoring class.
As long as Song Mengshi managed it well, the tutoring class would definitely be profitable, providing Zhang Jie with an additional source of income.
Seeing Sisi silent after a long pause, Song Mengshi thought Sisi was unwilling to invest and felt a bit bitter. However, she understood that she and Sisi were not even regular friends. Asking someone to invest a hefty sum of money in a venture with uncertain profits was, understandably, unlikely to succeed.
But wasting such an opportunity would truly be a shame!
"How about this: I’ll bring in another partner. Let’s meet here again tomorrow to finalize the investment and profit-sharing ratios. My co-investor and I will not be involved in management, but we will offer some reasonable suggestions. This will undoubtedly mean more work for you, but you’ll receive additional profit share compensation for it."
Song Mengshi was taken aback by the unexpected turn of events, her face showing her astonishment.
Sisi smiled and stood up, "Call me after class tomorrow, and I’ll bring the other partner along. I’ll also prepare the contract!"
"Thank you!"
All of Song Mengshi’s gratitude could only be expressed in those two words. She was deeply moved. Who would have thought that after more than a decade, it would be He Sisi, someone she once disliked the most, who would lend her a hand!
Sisi didn’t need to say much to Zhang Jie. On hearing they’d be setting up a tutoring class together, she handed over all her savings—50,000 yuan—without a word.
So, Sisi added US$ 100,000 to the investment. Initially, she wanted to invest more to expand the scale of Song Mengshi’s tutoring class. On second thought, though, she knew slowly but surely would win the race!
In terms of shares, Sisi held the majority with 45%. She gave 5% to Song Mengshi as a management incentive, so Song Mengshi had 30%, and Zhang Jie 25%.
After drafting the contract, Sisi handed the money to Song Mengshi and no longer managed the venture, trusting that Song Mengshi would handle it well. After all, she was a top student from Qing University, and she surely had the capability!
