Chapter 1194: Chapter 1194: Does Old Master Xu Know?
Song Jinyan sneered coldly, “The last friend.” Just like her despicable and shameless father.
Knowing that the boss always got in a bad mood whenever his second uncle’s family was mentioned, Songshan wisely skipped the topic. He had only brought it up to elicit a laugh from the boss, who had been too busy and worn out recently.
The two of them were now standing outside, discussing the affairs of Clear Water County.
“Our people came back last time without any success, and you said to hold off for a while, boss, but I wasn’t content. Taking advantage of Su Wen’s shop opening, I went to give my support, and also made a side trip to Clear Water County.”
Songshan had not planned to visit Clear Water County before leaving the Capital. It was only after arriving in the Province that he decided to make the detour on a whim. He went specifically to Clear Water County to investigate the matter the boss had assigned to him.
The previous group had returned empty-handed, but Songshan went alone, keeping a low profile, and he went prepared. Surprisingly, he did find out something.
All along, he had been curious why the boss wanted to investigate Su Xuewen and the Su family. But since the boss was unwilling to share, he didn’t pry further. This trip to Clear Water County, however, revealed some clues, which were so alarming Songshan wished he had remained ignorant.
Nevertheless, having learned the truth, he could now understand the boss’s special treatment toward the Su Wen sisters.
“You know?” Song Jinyan didn’t doubt Songshan’s capabilities for a moment, his expression turning much more stern and his eyes filled with icy coldness.
“I…” Songshan said awkwardly, knowing such information was not exactly a blessing.
“If you know, then you know. It’s nothing,” Song Jinyan shrugged nonchalantly, “I trust you, don’t worry.”
He hadn’t arranged for Songshan to go because he didn’t want to involve him, but now that he was involved, it was fine.
Songshan breathed a silent sigh of relief, then began recounting the investigation in Clear Water County, “The people we sent last time were dismissed. The one meddling in these matters is a guy named He Changming. He faced off with our men several times in secret, and our men were at a disadvantage. My visit this time was well-timed, as He Changming was particularly busy with work, which gave me an opportunity.”
“The one collaborating with Su Wen?”
“Yes, that’s right. It’s said that he’s on good terms with the Su family and apparently wants to become their live-in son-in-law.”
He!” Song Jinyan scoffed, “To be brothers-in-law with Zhou Hengyang is also not a bad opportunity.”
Songshan couldn’t tell if the boss was being complimentary or derogatory, so he decided not to dwell on it and just relayed the information he had discovered: “This time, I bribed a person named Zhang Chunxiang. She told me something.”
Song Jinyan’s body tensed up suddenly, “Tell me, what is it?”
“She said that years ago, someone else had come to the village to inquire about things. From her description, I guess it must have been Old Master Xu’s men,” Songshan’s voice lowered as he spoke.
He knew what the boss was suspecting, evident from his attitude toward Second Uncle Song and Song Zishan. The boss’s hunch was nearly materializing into certainty. But Songshan hadn’t expected Old Master Xu to be involved too.
Did Old Master Xu know?
He probably did, right?
If Old Master Xu knew, then… why would he…
Songshan couldn’t help but shiver.
“Grandfather’s men?” A moment of bewilderment flashed across Song Jinyan’s face, followed by a profound shock. His face turned pale, and his thin lips lost their color. “If grandfather made a move, it would be impossible not to find out the truth. Heh heh… Songshan, tell me, what is the truth?”
“I… Maybe you’re mistaken, boss.”
