Chapter 1267: Chapter 1267: It’s All Ma Xiulan’s Fault

“Enough, all of you shut up! What time do you think this is to be saying such things?” Li Youcai shouted irritably, and fiercely slammed his hand down on the table, quieting the room instantly. “Since you came here to discuss solutions with me, then behave yourselves.”

Li Youcai fully assumed the authority of a long-time village chief, “Those who are not afraid, leave now.”

For a long while, no one left.

Li Youcai then continued, “Since none of you left, it shows you all understand the situation. No one is blind here. I may not know the background of those outsiders who came today, but I can see that they are not someone we can afford to provoke.”

“Not just can’t afford to provoke,” Cao Jing, He Yulan’s sister-in-law, muttered under her breath.

Though it sounded unpleasant, it struck a chord with everyone present.

“When I came back, our village was already surrounded, not even a cat could slip out. The only reason I was able to enter was that I was recognized as someone from Trinity Village. I think you all know why they let me in,” Shen Erkui said in a composed manner.

Shen Erkui’s words caused those unaware of the situation outside the village to reveal expressions of shock and fear.

Looking knowingly at Zhang Chunxiang, Li Youcai asked, “Zhang Chunxiang, do you know who these people are?”

“I’ve heard about them.” Having married into the village for many years, Zhang Chunxiang frequently eavesdropped on Ma Xiulan and Su Dachun’s conversations in private. She had long known the secret of Su Xuewen’s birth. Her earlier confidence in sending Su Pingping to seek refuge with Su Wen was based on this very secret.

But she had not expected that her leverage would be of no use whatsoever.

If she had known, she would have told Su Wen earlier and could have earned some favor in the process.

Zhang Chunxiang lamented in her heart.

“The ones who came are surnamed Song, I heard they hold high offices. Many people in their family are high officials, extremely powerful. Their family had many high officials even fifty years ago, otherwise that greedy old hag wouldn’t have dared to swap someone else’s child out of sheer covetousness.”

Everyone revealed complex expressions.

“Ever since he was little, Su Xuewen was different from all of us, in looks, speech, even in intellect where he was the smartest. Back then everyone said he was different from us, and now it turns out he truly is,” Sister Chrysanthemum commented quietly.

“It’s all Ma Xiulan’s fault; she is too vicious.”

“That damn old hag has sinned, causing all of us to suffer along with her. We ourselves might be fine, but what about my son, my grandson, in the future?”

As the conversation went on, everyone in the main hall began to curse loudly, swearing at Ma Xiulan and Su Dachun with more and more vitriol and anger, until finally, everyone rolled up their sleeves as one and decided to go and beat them to vent their anger.

Li Youcai couldn’t stop them, and fearing that it might result in fatality, hastily followed.

A big crowd went over in a tumult, only to find Ma Xiulan’s courtyard already packed with people, the gate wide open and blocked by the crowd. When Li Youcai arrived, those blocking the gateway stepped aside to let him through.

Once inside, they saw Ma Xiulan being pinned to the ground and beaten by angry villagers. She was covered in mud, her hair was a mess, and her swollen face was barely recognizable.

Su Dachun was in an even worse state than Ma Xiulan; he had been beaten to the point of being unrecognizable. No one stepped forward to break up the fight or to intervene, only those joining in the commotion, urging the beaters on to hit harder.

In the distance, Song Jiaming sat in a wheelchair, coldly watching with a sinister gaze.
