Chapter 351: Unexpected Surprise ( 2 )
Seeing Yao Zhi walk over, Xi Yi greeted her, "Greetings, Master." Although she no longer knelt before her, she still gave a basic curtsy.
Yao Zhi no longer forced her to accept her mindset or follow how she saw the world. She nodded at her and asked, "Xi Yi, have you thought about it?"
Hearing this, Xi Yi knew what her Master was asking. She went silent for a while before nodding. "Master, I have made up my mind."
After a moment of pause, she continued, "Wei Bingliang, the Marquis of Yongning’s wife, died from illness soon after she was bought from the slave market. She is no longer alive. So, there is no need to continue being entangled with the past."
When she heard this, Yao Zhi understood her intentions. "Since you have made your decision, then I will support you."
"Master, about the Heir, what do you plan to do?"
Although she didn’t want to recognize Gu Muyang, he was still her late husband’s youngest brother. She couldn’t be completely unconcerned about his life and death.
Yao Zhi thought about her husband’s words and replied, "Regarding his matter, my husband has his own plan. We don’t have to worry about it."
"I understand," Xi Yi nodded.
After the brief conversation, they changed the topic and worked while chatting.
Meanwhile, Gu Muyang was looking at the man sitting across from him inside his thatched hut and asked, "Squad Leader Fu, what brings you here so early?"
Fu Chen’an didn’t answer him and instead asked, "Seventh Young Master Gu, I wonder what you are doing in this small village instead of hiding from the imperial guards?"
The moment he said this, Gu Muyang narrowed his eyes. At the same time, Gu Langren unsheathed his dagger and pointed the sharp tip at Fu Chen’an.
"How do you know about my identity?" Gu Muyang asked coldly.
"Seventh Young Master Gu, you don’t have to worry about how I know your identity. I don’t have any bad intentions toward you," Fu Chen’an replied calmly as he pushed the dagger away from his face.
He poured himself a cup of water and continued, "I heard about the calamity of the Marquis Yongning’s family, and I’m sorry for your loss. But today, I did not come to confront you about your identity."
"Then, what do you want?"
"Right now, you are a wanted criminal. Posters seeking you, dead or alive, have been distributed throughout the entire kingdom. With so many people aiming for your head, even if you want revenge, you have no way to achieve it."
Gu Muyang stared at him but said nothing, waiting for him to continue.
"I can help you alter your appearance, allowing you to obtain a new identity and live a normal life."
As soon as Fu Chen’an finished his words, Gu Muyang asked, "What do you want in exchange?"
"Just stay away from my family. As long as you don’t cause any trouble for my family and Yang Village, you can do as you please."
When he heard this, Gu Muyang was full of doubt. "That’s your only requirement?"
Fu Chen’an didn’t bother to say more. He took out a mask and contact lenses from his waist bag. To outsiders, it looked like an ordinary bag, so Gu Muyang and Gu Langren were not suspicious.
He placed the wooden box on the table and said, "Inside is a skin mask and a pair of lenses that can alter your features and eye color. As long as you use them, no one will be able to recognize you."
He glanced at the handsome man in front of him and added, "Yesterday, you were covered in dirt. Even if you change your appearance today, no one will question it."
When he was done, he stood up and left without looking back.
Gu Langren sheathed his dagger and looked at his master. "Heir, can we trust him?"
Gu Muyang opened the box and was taken aback by the exquisite mask and lenses.
He had never seen anything that could alter someone’s eye color. He took out a piece of paper and unfolded it. Written on it were instructions on how to use and maintain the items.
After a moment of silence, he said, "There is no conflict of interest between him and us. We can trust him."
Since his master had said so, Gu Langren kept the rest of his words to himself.
When dawn arrived, both of them left the thatched hut and went to Fu Chen’an’s house. Before leaving, Gu Muyang had already put on the mask and lenses.
Today, they had changed into clean clothes and tidied their hair. They no longer looked like beggars. When the villagers saw them, they couldn’t recognize them at first until they introduced themselves.
Seeing that both of them were tall and had straight postures, the villagers thought they were handsome. But after they cleaned themselves up, the villagers, especially the unmarried women, were disappointed.
Although they had good figures, their faces were hard to look at. One of them had a face covered in a messy beard. Aside from his eyes, little else could be seen.
The other had a clean face with decent features, but when combined, his appearance was so ordinary that it was hard to notice him in a crowd.
The woman dreamed of marrying a man like Fu Chen’an, who not only had a good figure but was also good-looking. So they quickly lost interest in Gu Muyang and Gu Langren.
Noticing this, both of them heaved a sigh of relief.
Before obtaining the mask that morning, they had been worried about how to hide Gu Muyang’s good looks. It would have been troublesome if he had attracted attention from officials or wealthy families.
When they arrived at Fu Chen’an’s house, the sun was slowly rising on the eastern horizon. Soon after, the workers arrived one after another.
Since Yao Zhi had already learned from her husband about his conversation with Gu Muyang, she no longer treated him with the same wariness as before.
