Chapter 416: A Rare Guest ( 1 )
Chapter 416: A Rare Guest ( 1 )
Compared to the Emperor, who had abandoned them so easily back then, the civilians wished that the General were the one ruling the kingdom instead.
Although such thoughts were considered rebellious, ordinary people’s desires were simple.
They didn’t care who sat on the throne. All they wanted was a peaceful life where they could work, have enough food to eat, and warm clothes to wear.
Meanwhile, inside a small courtyard within the city, Su Hanli had also heard about the improved meals being distributed to the civilians.
His fists clenched tightly as he suppressed the anger rising within him.
After a long silence, he finally said coldly, "Find out where Lu Qianxuan obtained all those supplies."
The guards bowed and replied, "Understood."
After they left, Su Hanli sat alone in the quiet room. A moment later, he quickly wrote a letter before calling out, "An Yi."
The next instant, a figure silently appeared in the room and knelt on one knee. "Master."
"Deliver this letter to my grandfather as quickly as possible."
An Yi accepted the letter respectfully with both hands and replied, "Understood."
The next second, his figure disappeared like a ghost.
Recalling the information he had received earlier, a dangerous glint flashed across Su Hanli’s eyes. He slowly stood up and walked toward the window, staring at the darkened sky outside.
"It seems I need to personally meet that person."
Not knowing that her actions had already attracted unwanted attention, Yao Zhi entered the shared manor after returning to her guest room in the General’s temporary residence.
Tonight, only Ling Ershi remained in the side wing to guard her. The rest of the Ling Squad members still hadn’t returned.
The moment she appeared inside the shared manor, Yao Zhi removed her disguise and went to take a hot bath. Afterward, she carefully cleaned the body suit.
Wearing the suit was extremely uncomfortable, but she had no choice.
The people of this era might be simple and honest, but they weren’t stupid. What those dramas and novels portrayed was nothing but a blatant lie.
Even if she flattened her chest as much as possible, people would still notice the absence of an Adam’s apple.
This suit covered her neck completely, and together with the fake Adam’s apple, it was enough for others to think she was merely an effeminate man at most, unless the person was especially observant or someone very close to her.
After cleaning the body suit, Yao Zhi sat cross-legged in the living room and began meditating.
She could vaguely feel that she was on the verge of a breakthrough. However, after experiencing that near-fatal pain earlier, she no longer dared to overestimate herself or underestimate the cultivation process.
She meditated for 3 hours before beginning her swordsmanship practice.
Previously, she had only been able to practice up to the 3rd form. But tonight, she successfully completed the 4th form and only stopped midway through the 5th form.
Rather than forcing herself to complete it, she repeatedly practiced the sword techniques from the 1st form to the 4th form over and over again.
Only after exhausting all of her spiritual energy did she finally stop.
She meditated for another half an hour before taking another shower, eating dinner, and preparing to leave the shared manor.
Before leaving, she wrote a note for her husband, telling him everything she had done from morning until now. She didn’t hide the fact that she had nearly injured herself while setting up the Qi Gathering Formation either.
Although she was certain that her husband would scold her after reading it, she had promised to tell him everything.
And she intended to keep that promise.
After reappearing in her room, Yao Zhi quickly went to sleep.
Outside, Ling Ershi sat quietly on the rooftop above her room.
The moment he sensed his master’s presence returning, he finally relaxed and lay down on the roof to rest. Without his brothers around, he alone had to keep watch tonight.
Early the next morning, Yao Zhi woke up before dawn. As usual, she entered the shared manor. When she entered the bedroom, she noticed traces that someone had slept there last night.
It seemed her husband had rested inside the manor again.
She spotted the note left on the bedside table and picked it up to read it. A smile appeared on her face, and she made a mental note to visit the military camp later.
After washing up, she began her morning training routine. By 7 o’clock in the morning, she had already taken a shower and put on her disguise.
The moment she reappeared in her room, she heard a maidservant’s voice coming from outside.
"Sir, please help me inform Young Master Lei that Madam has invited him to share the morning meal together."
Hearing this, Yao Zhi opened the door and saw the maidservant appointed by Xue Ya’er to serve her.
She glanced at Ling Ershi and said, "Let’s go."
Ling Ershi lowered the hand he had been using to block the maidservant from entering his master’s room and nodded.
As the maidservant led the way, Yao Zhi turned toward him and asked, "Ershi, have you eaten yet?"
"Replying to the Master, this subordinate has already eaten."
Yao Zhi nodded before adding, "If your supplies run out, just tell me. I’ll give you more." After a brief pause, she continued, "You don’t need to save water either. Maintain proper hygiene, or you’ll get sick."
Ling Ershi suddenly thought that his body might smell unpleasant and immediately felt embarrassed. He coughed lightly to hide his awkwardness before replying, "Understood."
Walking in front of them, the maidservant couldn’t help glancing back several times. Envy and jealousy surged within her heart.
Both she and Ling Ershi were servants, so why was his treatment completely different from hers?
Her unwillingness only strengthened her determination to climb into Lei Feng’s bed and become his woman. Only by attaching herself to a powerful man could she escape her life of servitude.
While she was secretly plotting how to win Lei Feng over, Yao Zhi’s brows slowly furrowed.
