Chapter 118 Part 2 – No Overnight Grudge Between Lovers (II)

Ning Shaobai laughed. Just thinking of her name filled him with a joy he couldn’t put into words.

“You’ll find out soon enough.” With that, he hung up, feeling thoroughly pleased.

A moment later, Rong Xin called back, fuming. “Bro, you’re heartless! You wake me up in the middle of the night just to show off, and then you don’t even tell me who your girlfriend is? How am I supposed to sleep now?!”

Ning Shaobai silenced the call and, feeling very satisfied, finally went to bed.

Xia Mian didn’t sleep a wink that night either. As soon as the sky began to lighten, she got up bright-eyed and full of energy.

The very first thing she did was open the front gate, just in case Xiao Feng came home early. It wouldn’t do to leave the gate locked.

She poked her head out to glance at the next door, only to immediately spot a handsome young man in sportswear leaning casually against the wall by her front door.

Who knew how long he had been standing there? But there was Ning Shaobai, looking at her with a soft smile.

Xia Mian’s face broke into an uncontrollable smile.

A “title”… what a magical thing! Nothing had changed on the surface, but now that he was formally hers, she felt a sudden burst of joy.

She could now be as bold as she pleased, fully justified in doing whatever she wanted to him.

“Dr. Ning, you’re up early.”

Ning Shaobai walked up to her and smiled. “You’re early too.”

Then Xia Mian’s expression suddenly changed. “I haven’t washed my face yet!”

And with that, she turned and ran.

Ning Shaobai shook his head, laughing to himself.

When Xia Mian returned to the living room after freshening up, she found Ning Shaobai staring intently at the box on the display shelf, his expression unusually serious.

A bad feeling welled up in her chest.

It was that box! The one she’d tossed up there ages ago and completely forgotten about—her box of love letters!

Sure enough, Ning Shaobai turned to her, smiling dangerously, “As your officially titled boyfriend, I think I have the right to know who my rivals are.”

Xia Mian laughed nervously. “What rivals? Just look at all the dust on that box—it’s ancient history now!”

“It’s been over for ages. Even I don’t know who those letters are from,” she bluffed. “What, do you want me to remember every guy who’s ever liked me?”

Ning Shaobai’s face clearly said, Do I look that gullible?

“You don’t need to know, but I do. You know the proverb—know yourself and know your enemy, and you’ll never lose a battle.”

Xia Mian said flatly, “You’re just trying to count how many letters are in there, aren’t you?”

“Oh, so you do remember,” Ning Shaobai said with satisfaction. “Debts of love like this must be repaid double once you meet your destined one.”

Xia Mian couldn’t help but laugh. “Didn’t you make that up?”

“Nope,” Ning Shaobai replied. “It’s an ancient legend.”

Xia Mian was nearly in tears from laughing. “Then how do you plan to repay me? I heard from Brother Rong that you received at least a thousand love letters. How are you going to pay that back?”

“Absolute nonsense,” Ning Shaobai denied firmly. “You’d trust anything Rong Xin says?”

“You’re not just trying to get out of writing me love letters, are you?”

Ning Shaobai suddenly sighed, pulled a folded piece of paper from his pocket, and opened it. “Speaking of which, since you’re so good at confessing…”

Xia Mian glanced at the paper and instantly recognized it. It was the same two cheesy lines of poetry they had yelled at the restaurant last night, along with all the science formulas written on the concrete. The solutions to the two math problems were neatly done, and the two big heart shapes had even been traced over in red ink.

She suddenly threw her arms around Ning Shaobai and beamed up at him, putting on her best cute act. “Didn’t we already step into a new stage of life last night? Let’s not dwell on the past.”

As she spoke, she reached toward the love letter box, planning to destroy all evidence ASAP.

But Ning Shaobai pressed her hand down and wouldn’t let go, “No can do.”

“Your past self, your present self, your future self… every version of you is the most important thing in my life. I want to understand all of it.”

Xia Mian: “…”

Can you not make holding grudges sound like a love confession?!

At this point, she suddenly realized: if she hadn’t accepted his confession yesterday, she could’ve totally used all those grudges he oh-so-meticulously recorded as bargaining chips to exchange for a proper title!

But now, not only had she lost all her leverage, she’d handed him an excuse to get jealous instead!

This guy had definitely seen this coming from the start. That’s why he’d acted so “magnanimous” yesterday, like he didn’t mind anything at all!

So cunning!

But what’s done is done—it would be too shameless to back out now. Accepting her fate, Xia Mian let out a sigh, stood on tiptoe, and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek.

Seeing Ning Shaobai freeze, she acted sweet and pleaded softly, “Don’t look, okay?”

“Or… what if we make a trade?” A lightbulb went off in her head.

“Five kisses for the box?”

Seeing his eyes narrow, Xia Mian flipped her palm. “Ten?”

Ning Shaobai sighed, set the box down, and said quietly, “Those kisses won’t do.”

As he spoke, he pinched her chin and sealed her lips with his own…

At first, it was tentative and a little unfamiliar, but after Xia Mian accidentally parted her lips, the kiss quickly spiraled out of control.

Her mind seemed to be filled with exploding fireworks, robbing her of everything else…

She didn’t know how much time had passed. Her whole body had gone soft, and she clung to his shirt, breathing heavily against his shoulder.

“Dr. Ning… was that really your first kiss?” Are you trying to kill me? How could you be so skilled?!

Ning Shaobai gently stroked her back as he caught his breath, his voice still husky, “The next one won’t be. Want to try it?”

Xia Mian didn’t dare move. “N-no… I still want to live.”

Ning Shaobai chuckled softly, one arm holding her close as the other reached for the love letter box again.

Xia Mian’s eyes widened. “Dr. Ning, didn’t we agree to trade?”

“Trade for what? Last night’s offense or this box?”

Xia Mian paused, then tested cautiously, “Both?”

“Hmm… last time in the training room, you—”

“You might as well just list everything!” Xia Mian steeled herself. “Fine! I’ll trade it all!”

Ning Shaobai burst out laughing, then couldn’t help but lower his head and kiss her again on the lips. “Silly girl, that was all my right to begin with—there’s nothing to trade.”

Seeing Xia Mian about to explode, he quickly pulled her into his arms, then tucked the page full of silly confessions and formulas into the back of the love letter box and handed it to her.

Xia Mian stopped struggling. “What does this mean?”

Ning Shaobai looked at her with soft eyes. “It’s my first time being someone’s boyfriend—I might mess up sometimes.”

He spoke gently, “These are proof of how hard it was to win you. If I ever make you angry, you can take this out and remind me.”

“To remind me that my girl was someone many people wanted, and she deserves to be treated with care.”

Xia Mian’s heart melted. She teased on purpose, “You sure this isn’t just you holding grudges?”

Ning Shaobai gave a soft laugh and kissed her again. “Between lovers, there’s no such thing as an overnight grudge.”

Xia Mian: “…”

No grudges overnight, huh? That’s only because every fight ends with making up in bed!

Is he mocking my lack of literary knowledge? Or subtly hinting at something?
