Chapter 148 Part 1 – Qiangqiang Will Never Stop Making Trouble (I)
Just as Ning Shaobai was thinking about how to explain to Xiao Feng that his auntie can only have one husband, a loud engine roar gradually approached from a distance, and a flashy sports car suddenly pulled up in front of the hotel.
Everyone’s attention was instinctively drawn to it. Wang Tao looked on enviously. “That car must be worth a few million. Like driving a luxury villa down the road, huh? Some people are just born rich.”
He had barely finished speaking when the car door of the “villa” opened. A young man stepped out, staring directly at Ning Shaobai in surprise. “Young Master Ning? What are you doing here?”
Xia Mian turned to look at Ning Shaobai, who shook his head slightly to indicate he didn’t know the man. He replied coolly, “And you are?”
The young man stepped forward with a friendly smile. “I’m Xu Feng from Shengyan. Here for a wedding? Are these all your relatives?”
Wang Tao and Xia Li stood there stunned. Shengyan was the biggest nightclub in Yan City. The place was famous for its full-service experience, and even more famous as one of the city’s most notorious money-burning spots. Every time Wang Tao treated someone there, he had to hurt his wallet to drop ten thousand. The owner’s surname was Xu, and he supposedly had serious connections—no one dared cross him.
They never expected to run into someone from Shengyan here, speaking so respectfully to Ning Shaobai. Wang Tao’s face clearly showed a flicker of doubt. Could it be that Xia Mian’s boyfriend was really hiding something powerful?
Just as he was thinking that, he heard Ning Shaobai’s calm response, “Sorry, I don’t know you. You’ve got the wrong person.”
Xu Feng froze, glancing anxiously at Rong Xin. Even if Ning Shaobai wasn’t a regular in social circles, this young master of the Rong family certainly was. There was no way he could have mistaken him.
His brow furrowed as if he wanted to press the issue. But just then, Tang Miaomiao spoke up, her expression blank as if making a formal introduction. “Xu Feng, from Haiyan.”
“Fan Xiaowan’s cousin-in-law.”
That final line was somewhat emphasized. Xu Feng’s face shifted slightly, and he immediately dared not speak further. With a forced smile, he said, “Sorry, I really must have mistaken you.”
Then he turned and quickly got back into the car and left.
Wang Tao stared longingly at the back of the sports car. “So he came all the way here just to greet you? Dr. Ning, do you and this Young Master Ning just look alike or something? Why do so many people mistake you for him?”
He joked, “Hey, since you’re also surnamed Ning, maybe you’re his long-lost brother? Should you run a background check? What if you really are some rich young master?”
Ning Shaobai responded flatly, “I am the Young Master Ning they’re talking about.”
Wang Tao didn’t react at first. “What?”
“He is the Young Master Ning,” Rong Xin said cheerfully, looking at him with a grin. “But you’ve probably only heard of how impressive Young Master Ning is, not how terrifying.”
“He’s ranked number one on the list of ‘people you absolutely do not mess with’ in our circle. Otherwise, that person trying to trip up Xia Mian wouldn’t have gone to all that trouble to get someone like that Sun guy to lure you in.”
Wang Tao and Xia Li stood frozen, unable to digest what they were hearing.
Rong Xin didn’t seem to mind. He swept a smiling glance over them both, though his eyes held a hint of chill. “You should be thankful you didn’t get any nasty ideas. Otherwise, that little construction project of yours? One phone call and it’s gone.”
He looked in the direction the sports car had disappeared and said with a lazy smile, “As for places like Haiyan… yeah, they might need more than one call.”
Wang Tao still hadn’t fully processed the implications, but for the first time, he felt a heavy pressure—not from someone flaunting wealth or status, but from someone entirely unassuming.
He really wanted to believe they were either bluffing or joking. But looking at Ning Shaobai’s indifferent expression, his hard-earned survival instincts kicked in, and he wisely chose to shut his mouth.
It wasn’t until a week later that President Sun lost a major project, and a month later when Shengyan was ordered to shut down and undergo rectification, that Wang Tao finally felt the fear sink in. Not only did the idea of sucking up vanish, he didn’t even dare keep his mistress anymore.
But that’s another story.
Xia Mian waited until Rong Xin had finished “educating” Wang Tao before turning to Tang Miaomiao curiously. “Sister Miaomiao, you just said that Xu Feng is Fan Xiaowan’s cousin-in-law…?”
Her tone was laced with subtle disbelief.
Rong Xin sneered, “The usual. Women like Fan Xiaowan, I’ve seen plenty. She’ll try to hook any guy she sees. Claims she’s got countless admirers.”
Xia Mian’s eyes widened. “His wife’s her actual cousin?”
Rong Xin looked to Tang Miaomiao, who nodded. “Yeah, real cousin. Her dad’s older sister’s daughter.”
Tsk tsk… Xia Mian had thought Fan Xiaowan was just some supreme white lotus. Turns out she’d evolved into a world-class green tea.
In any case, the identity of the perpetrator behind the scenes was now confirmed. She turned to Ning Shaobai. “You have to make sure she learns her lesson this time.”
Ning Shaobai tugged gently on her little hair tuft. “Rest assured.”
If she could, Xia Mian would’ve preferred to deal with it herself. It was just unfortunate that she and Fan Xiaowan had barely any direct interaction. But she knew someone like her needed to be thoroughly crushed, and Ning Shaobai was much more efficient at that.
With Fan Xiaowan left to him, all that remained were the Mao and Hao families.
As for Xia Bao, now that he was locked up, they’d only find out when Xia Wenyue decided it was time to let them know. And that wouldn’t happen until after the eldest uncle’s family had returned home.
The eldest uncle’s family was staying another two days. They were waiting for Mao Huimei’s first home visit before returning home.
With Huimei married, the house suddenly felt so empty. It was a bit jarring at first. Even though Huimei had always been busy and rarely home, her absence at dinner or during evening routines left an unmistakable emptiness.
Still, with the lively kids around, any melancholy barely lasted a day.
Because of the exhaustion from the wedding, everyone—well, all the adults—slept in the next morning.
The kids, of course, were full of energy. As soon as Xia Mian opened her eyes, she heard a chorus of childish laughter outside, with Mao Huizhu laughing the loudest and most triumphant.
Then came Qiangqiang’s rare frustrated voice: “Ahhh! Pangpang, are you an idiot?!”
“Open your eyes, shut your mouth!”
“Hahahahaha!” This time, it was Chenchen who burst out laughing. “It’s shut your eyes, open your mouth!”
Xiao Feng added seriously, “Brother Qiangqiang, no hitting! Don’t make Pangpang cry!”
Then came Pangpang’s high-pitched babbling, mixing into the noisy, cheerful chaos.
Xia Mian got out of bed and stepped outside to find Xiao Feng, Chenchen, Huizhu, and Qiangqiang sitting around a table, with Pangpang placed in the middle. No clue what game they were playing.
Hongjuan emerged from the guest room and scolded with a smile, “Qiangqiang, what’ve you been doing to your little brother since yesterday? If he cries again, you’re the one who’s gonna have to deal with it!”
Mao Huizhu laughed loudly. “It’s Pangpang who’s about to make Qiangqiang cry!”
At that moment, Xia Hai returned from outside carrying breakfast and was surprised to hear this. “Really?! He’s always the one bullying others. Someone can finally get under his skin? That’s fantastic!”
“Come here, Pangpang! Let Uncle see how you made your big brother cry. If you manage it, Uncle will buy you ice cream!”
Pangpang immediately widened his eyes and opened his mouth with an “ah ah” sound. All the kids except Qiangqiang were doubled over in laughter, while Qiangqiang looked utterly defeated.
The adults, however, were completely confused.
So Mao Huizhu eagerly gave them a vivid explanation.
It all started with the two flower girls at Mao Huimei’s wedding yesterday, a pair of four-year-old twin sisters from Fang Yongpeng’s eldest brother’s family.
The twins looked identical, dressed in white angelic dresses, absolutely adorable.
The kids were drawn to their cuteness and lured them over to play.
At first, everything went smoothly. But not long after, the twins began crying for their mom. In an attempt to keep them around, the kids offered what the twins loved most: chocolate. “Eat the chocolate first, then go find Mom.”
It worked like a charm. The girls loved chocolate and rarely got to eat any at home.
But the trouble came when they went to feed them: there was only one piece of the gold-wrapped chocolate left.
The twins had a rule—everything they received had to be perfectly equal. If not, there’d be a full-on meltdown.
And the candy on the table had long since been eaten. Xiao Feng and Chenchen searched their own pockets, but the best candies—like chocolate—had already been devoured. They tried offering milk candy instead, but the twins refused.
So Chenchen had an idea. He unwrapped the foil and broke the chocolate in two. But that led to another problem: the pieces were obviously unequal in size, so the twins immediately started crying again.
Qiangqiang and Mao Huizhu were at their wits’ end. Huizhu even considered getting a ruler to measure the pieces, but Chenchen scoffed at her idea. Instead, he turned to the twins and said, “Let’s play a game. Close your eyes.”
Little kids love this kind of game, so the twins obediently shut their eyes. Then Chenchen said, “Now open your mouths.”
The twins did as told, and Chenchen quickly popped the two pieces of chocolate into their mouths. He had sneakily saved a tiny bit, claiming it was the piece broken off the bigger half to make both equal.
Since they’d already eaten it, there was no way to tell the difference anymore. So, these two pre-kindergarten-level twins were successfully fooled.
Later that day, back at home, Xia Mian had cut up a lemon for everyone to cool off. Qiangqiang sneakily took a slice, planning to prank someone.
The adults had all learned their lesson and wouldn’t fall for it again. So Qiangqiang turned his attention to little Pangpang, who was still too young to fully understand.
As a result, despite not speaking very clearly yet, Pangpang was clearly no fool. Ever since being zapped by the sour lemon a few days ago, he’d committed it to memory.
When he saw Qiangqiang coming closer, he waved his tiny hands and shouted in his baby voice, “No, no! Go away~”
So Qiangqiang remembered Chenchen’s trick and tried to use it on Pangpang. “Pangpang, close your eyes.”
The obedient little guy shut his eyes. Qiangqiang got the lemon ready, grinning mischievously. “Open your mouth.”
When she got to this part, Mao Huizhu couldn’t stop laughing. Imitating Pangpang, she opened her mouth and eyes at the same time:
“Hahahaha… Pangpang opened his eyes right away, saw the lemon in Qiangqiang’s hand, and ran off!”
Chenchen, holding his stomach from laughing, added, “Qiangqiang was completely stunned. Hahaha…”
