Transmigrating into the Genius Cannon Fodder’s Aunt

Chapter 151 Part 2 – Sweet Justice (II)

Chapter 151 Part 2 – Sweet Justice (II)

The show ended. The Mao family sat frozen, staring blankly at the credits rolling across the screen.

Old Lady Mao snapped out of it first, slamming her hand on the table. “What exactly did he mean by that?!”

“You still don’t understand?” Mao Dawei caught up a second later and exploded, hurling the cup in his hand straight across the room. “He means he’s cutting us off. We’re nothing to him!”

He pointed straight at the old lady and yelled, “Are you out of your mind?! Do you even have a brain?! How could you say that stuff on national TV?!”

For a greedy person, there’s nothing worse than watching money you could almost touch slip right through your fingers.

Mao Dawei was completely losing it. “My second uncle’s family has been nothing but filial to you, why did you have to treat them like that?!”

The old lady’s face went pale. “They told me he was listening, like it was a phone! How was I supposed to know it was going on TV?!”

Her own sons began criticizing her, “Even if it was a call, couldn’t you wait until they actually came back? You were cursing him out before you’d even laid eyes on him, what do you think would happen? Great, look what’s happened now! He’s too scared to come home, and the whole country thinks our Mao family are despicable villains!”

The old lady held her ground and snarled, “No matter what, he still came out of me! He’s part of this family! He wouldn’t dare cut me off!”

“Wouldn’t dare? You think you can just go find him?” Mao Dawei’s anger kept building. He jabbed a finger at her. “Fine, you bullied my second uncle—whatever. But why’d you have to drag me into it?!”

“Because of you, I’m done. We’re all completely done!”

Third Mao muttered, “It’s not that bad, is it? People around the county already knew all this stuff… nothing ever happened…”

“There are reporters outside!” Mao Dawei was done trying to reason with any of them. His grandmother had just torched everything he’d spent days dreaming about, and he was beyond furious.

He turned around, pulled out the suitcase he’d just unpacked, and started throwing things back in. “I’m leaving. Do whatever you want.”

But he’d underestimated how dedicated those reporters were. The second he stepped outside, they were right there waiting.

Just like he’d predicted, the Mao family was done.

After “A Date with Shen Shi” aired, reporters from every channel rode the wave and dropped the footage they’d shot during their days in Mingxi County.

With all those reportages, Mao Zhishan’s past was laid bare for the whole country to see, and every single thing he’d said in the interview was confirmed:

Neighbors had a whole list of stories about how Old Lady Mao had tormented the second branch of the family more than anyone could count;

The reason Mao Zhishan had gotten so thin was that he’d taken on almost every kind of hard labor in the county just to keep his daughters in school;

The story of Xia Wenyue nearly being killed had been a huge deal at the time too;

In short, through all these reports, the Mao family’s cruelty and backward thinking became public knowledge. Anyone who heard about it had something to say. Old Lady Mao wouldn’t even go near the front door, let alone try to find Mao Zhishan.

Just when Mao Dawei naively hoped the attention would eventually die down, reporters had already followed the trail all the way to Hao Xufeng, the man who’d pushed Mao Zhishan to flee his hometown with his entire family.

When they started digging, what they found was explosive: Hao Xufeng, the son of Mingxi County’s richest man, wasn’t just a gambler and a womanizer. He was violent, lawless, and utterly out of control!

What was even more chilling was that the people of Mingxi County had come to accept his behavior as normal. It seemed as if even if he actually killed someone, no one would do anything. The only real option was to stay out of his way.

Why Mao Zhishan’s family had to run became crystal clear once Mao Huihe’s story came out.

Even though the Hao family had put Mao Huihe under close watch since the reporters arrived, Hao Xufeng made no effort to hide what he’d put her through.

Reporters pieced together a chilling picture from accounts of people who’d witnessed things firsthand. If the Mao family represented old-fashioned ignorance at its worst, the Hao family was something far more dangerous—a real cancer rotting away inside a society that was supposed to be governed by law.

Dig deeper, there was bound something massive!

Experienced veteran reporters immediately realized the stake and switched to undercover work. But a few reckless young ones went straight at Hao Xufeng.

Hao Xufeng had been living it up, doing whatever he liked without regard for consequences, but he was unusually clear-headed when a young reporter let slip that Mao Huimei was doing well. His face went cold immediately. He called his driver and told him to get the car ready for Yan City.

The reporter asked, “She’s already married. What are you going to see her for?”

“Mind your own business,” Hao Xufeng said arrogantly. “I do what I want!”

“Married?” He spat. His voice went dark. “So what? She messed with me—I’ll cut her whole family down!”

“No—” Hao Xufeng suddenly let out a maniacal laughter. “I’m going to strip her naked, right in front of her whole family…”

The words that came after were beyond excessive. Even the reporters, used to seeing the worst of people, had never come across someone this brazen. One of the younger ones said, “You don’t even know where she is. You’ll never find her.”

“I don’t know,” Hao Xufeng said, looking them over steadily, running his tongue along his back teeth with something dark in his eyes. “But you do…”

“Grab them. Make them talk. If they won’t, just beat them until they do!”

His thugs, clearly used to do his dirty jobs, closed in with practiced ease.

…

By the time the undercover reporters got word out, two of the journalists had already had their legs broken. Two others had been hurt to varying degrees.

What was even harder to believe: every journalist who’d been reporting openly had been detained inside the police station’s interrogation room.

Nobody had expected the story of Mao Zhishan’s framing to spiral into something like this.

The case that rocked the entire nation, dubbed “The Mingxi County Richest Man Scandal”, broke wide open in an instant.

The head of the Hao family had used drugs and money to buy off and control local officials. After setting up a few who refused to play along, Mingxi County had become his personal lawless zone where he did exactly as he pleased;

And his son Hao Xufeng was even worse—violent, arrogant, treating lives as if they meant nothing. Undercover reporters alone uncovered multiple cases with hard evidence: sexual assault of minors, illegal imprisonment and abuse of multiple victims, two people beaten to death…

That was only part of what he’d done, and it was already more than enough to put him in front of a firing squad.。

The entire Hao family was soon arrested. Criminal investigators and officials from Ming Province moved into Mingxi County and swept through it fast and hard.

It was only later that Xia Mian and the others found out why Mao Huihe had been so desperate to bring Mao Huimei back as a replacement:

One night, a drunken Hao Xufeng mistook a woman he’d brought home for Mao Huimei and stabbed her repeatedly. Then he pounded on the door of the side bedroom, threatening to kill Mao Huihe too.

Terrified, Mao Huihe promised to find Mao Huimei for him, that was the only way he backed off.

After that, her mental state was never the same.

When the Xia family heard this, they were horrified. Xia Wenyue said, “Hao Xufeng isn’t even human anymore.”

Mao Huilan let out a shaky breath. “Luckily, we escaped.”

Xia Mian found it pretty disturbing too, and quickly changed the subject. “Anyway, that disgusting father and son are going to be executed. It’s over. Things are only going up from here!”

Xia Wenyue’s face broke into a smile. “Starting next month, Xinsheng is opening branch factories in Lin and Jiao Cities!”

Xia Mian grinned. “Sounds like my dividend is going up again.”

“Has Sister Huimei had some good news too?”

Mao Huimei walked in through the door right at that moment, beaming. “Xia Mian, is your mouth a good-luck charm or something?”

Xia Mian’s eyes lit up. “I knew it! How much?”

After “A Date with Shen Shi” aired, both Xinsheng and Mao Huimei’s Three Sisters had gotten a huge name boost. As Xinsheng expanded, Three Sisters was getting flooded with order calls too, ready to break into the domestic market in a big way.

“A lot,” Mao Huimei said, laughing. “But I only accepted two million worth—the factory can’t keep up with more. Looks like I need to start planning a branch factory too!”

If things were going well for Xia Wenyue and Mao Huimei, it was even better for Mao Zhishan.

A down-to-earth personality that was a total contrast to his usual roles and his image as a devoted husband and father had caught the eye of a well-known director, leading to his first role as a male lead.

It was a family drama built around a father, with Mao Huizhu playing his daughter—a perfect fit. If done well, it could become a classic.

All in all, things were looking up for Xia Wenyue’s family, and they were only going to keep getting better.

Ning Shaoyun had good news too: her solo art exhibition, which she had been preparing for more than four years, was finally going to be held!

Before the opening, Xia Mian took Xiao Feng with her to order flower baskets. While she was flipping through the designs, Xiao Feng piped up: “We also need to order one for Uncle Ning.”

Xia Mian: “…” Since when had Ning Shaobai fallen so far that Xiao Feng has to look out for him?

“Aunt Ning is his sister. Wouldn’t it make more sense for him to pick the basket himself?”

Xiao Feng shook his head. “Uncle Ning asked me to help. He said he couldn’t pick nice ones.”

“Fine,” Xia Mian said, pouting. “Got it. He really can’t do anything without Xiao Feng now, can he?”

At this rate, until he officially became the kid’s uncle-in-law, things were probably only going to get worse!

Xiao Feng smiled to himself, then turned his full attention to picking out a flower basket for Ning Shaobai, taking the responsibility very seriously.

Xia Mian clicked her tongue dismissively. Classic Dr. Ning!
