Chapter 52.4 – Birthday Banquet: Last Part (IV)

Before long, the crowd came bustling back inside, surrounding a man in his thirties. He had a gentle-looking face and seemed stiff and uncomfortable in his suit. Even his walk was a little awkward. Faced with endless flattery from the crowd, he kept a stern face, frowning, clearly not easy to approach.

Watching how carefully Fan Xiuzhi chose her words, Rong Xin let out an amused chuckle. “Why would they send Brother Mo to a place like this? He’s a tech guy—how’s he supposed to talk business?”

Ning Shaobai replied, “Brother Li’s wife just gave birth—he’s tied up. Brother Mo and the others played rock-paper-scissors, and he lost.”

Rong Xin burst into laughter, and Xia Mian couldn’t hold it in either. ‘Yep, classic nerd personality.’

“Xiao Yang graduated from A University just like you, Mr. Mo. He’s your junior, actually…” Fan Xiuzhi was halfway through her sentence when she noticed Mo Feiguang’s icy expression soften. Delighted, she quickly pulled her son over and was about to say more when the man suddenly stepped forward and started walking in a different direction.

Everyone turned to look—Mo Feiguang was heading toward Ning Shaobai, who was casually waving at him.

Fan Xiuzhi rushed after him, putting on an awkward smile. “That’s my eldest son—he’s a doctor. He might not be very familiar with social etiquette. Please forgive him.”

“Oh? Junior Brother Ning is your son?” Mo Feiguang’s frosty demeanor instantly warmed. “You should’ve said so earlier, Auntie! You look far too young to be his mom!”

Fan Xiuzhi froze for a moment.

Someone with quick reflexes jumped in, “You know the eldest young master Ning?”

Mo Feiguang replied, “You mean Ning Shaobai, right? Of course we know him! He’s a few years younger than us, one of our juniors…”

He had already reached Ning Shaobai and looked at him like a man rescued from purgatory. “Junior Brother, this is your family? Why didn’t you tell us?”

He grumbled under his breath, “We went through all this business talk for nothing. Total waste of time, huh?”

Ning Shaobai chuckled. “I just invest. I don’t handle anything else. Besides, while this is my birth family, it’s been a while since I went home, and that woman is my stepmother. We don’t have much to do with each other.”

Mo Feiguang hadn’t even processed it yet, but the others were already staring at Fan Xiuzhi in disbelief. Because of her selfishness, they had missed out on such a treasure!

“No… Impossible.” Fan Xiuzhi refused to believe it. “How could he possibly be an investor in Mohe?”

Mo Feiguang, finally catching on to her attitude, realized that this stepmother didn’t want Ning Shaobai to succeed. He frowned. “The reason Mohe was able to successfully develop our product is all thanks to my junior. He’s the company’s biggest shareholder.”

Fan Xiuzhi’s face turned deathly pale, but her business partners no longer had time to hold her accountable. Smiles plastered on as they swarmed toward Ning Shaobai, all trying to cozy up.

“Young Master Ning is actually an investor in Mohe! It was our fault that we failed to recognize a true talent!”

“Exactly. Our sincerest apologies.”

“Not only are your medical skills impressive, your investment foresight is incredible. A real genius!”

Those who couldn’t get close to Ning Shaobai began trying to curry favor indirectly. The overwhelming enthusiasm was suffocating, causing Ning Shaoyun, Xia Mian, and Professor Zhu to quickly retreat to avoid the crowd.

Xia Mian shot Ning Shaobai a dramatic “save me” look.

Her exaggerated expression made Ning Shaobai laugh. He turned to the crowd and said, “I don’t handle operations. You should talk to Mr. Mo.”

Mo Feiguang grabbed him. “No, no—you’re the best, really. Help me out! Should we partner with your family company?”

Ning Shaobai glanced at Fan Xiuzhi, who felt a chill run through her entire body.

Then she heard him say blandly, “The Ning family isn’t a good fit. Home appliances and electronics are two different industries.”

“And…” He looked toward a few anxious-looking figures not far off. “Their funding is probably about to dry up. It’ll slow the entire process.”

Fan Xiuzhi’s lips trembled, unable to get a word out. Ning Shaobai named a few others who weren’t present: “Mingcheng Electronics, Haiwang Telecom, Zhongke Tech—these are worth considering.”

One of the Ning company’s shareholders chuckled awkwardly, “Xiao Bai sure can jest. Since we have our own company, why let the profits go to outsiders? A few of our partners here have decent credentials, too.”

“I’m not familiar with your credentials,” Ning Shaobai did not care, “and I don’t particularly trust what President Fan says, either. You’d better talk to Mr. Mo yourselves.” With that, he quickly pried Mo Feiguang’s hand off his arm and slipped out of the crowd.

To Ning Shaoyang, who was about to follow him, Ning Shaobai said, “Go look after Grandpa. Don’t let those people hurt him.”

Ning Shaoyang hesitated, but when he saw a few aggressive-looking people heading toward their grandfather, he hurried over.

Old Master Ning looked out over the chaotic, noisy hall, knowing the situation was lost. With a sigh, he told the steward, “Turn the music on. Louder—at least then I won’t have to see this mess.”

With that, he followed his younger grandson upstairs.

Meanwhile, as Ning Shaobai predicted, Fan Xiuzhi soon followed him out.

He sighed. “I told you not to pile everything onto Ning Shaoyang. At this point, even if you handed everything over to him, no one would dare work with him.”

Fan Xiuzhi’s face was stone cold. “What will it take for you to let Xiao Yang go?”

Ning Shaobai raised an eyebrow. “When have I ever gone after Ning Shaoyang? The only person I’ve ever targeted… is you.”

Fan Xiuzhi closed her eyes, still unwilling to bow her head. “Are you satisfied now?”

Ning Shaobai shook his head.

Fan Xiuzhi trembled all over. “What exactly are you going to do?”

Ning Shaobai said, “Didn’t I already tell you? I’m going to send you where you belong.” He glanced at the group of people eagerly watching from a distance, then smiled at Fan Xiuzhi. “Although I can’t say I have power now, I definitely have more money than you. That should be enough to send you off, don’t you think?”

Fan Xiuzhi felt like she had fallen into an ice pit. However, she still refused to believe it. “Impossible. You don’t have any evidence. The police can’t be bought with money.”

“Who said I needed to buy the police?” Ning Shaobai replied. “I caught a human trafficker at a market a while ago.”

“According to his confession, there’s a wealthy person in Yan City who helps them escape after they commit crimes here… The police are actively searching for that accomplice.”

All color drained from Fan Xiuzhi’s face.

Ning Shaobai sneered. “If you chose to make a deal with the devil, you’d better be prepared to be dragged to hell.”

Fan Xiuzhi forced herself to stay calm. “I never showed my face. They can’t get any evidence…”

Ning Shaobai smiled as the sound system began emitting a faint crackling. “Well, there’s about to be some…”

“…Being overly rigid will only lead to breaking. By then, forget about avenging Chenchen—you might not even be able to protect yourself..”

“…So, you’re admitting to conspiring with the Huo family to kidnap Chenchen?”

“And what if I did? Right now, even the old master has to protect me for the sake of the Ning family. You’re just a powerless doctor. What can you do to me?”

Old Master Ning had thought Ning Shaobai had already vented enough—but hadn’t expected this final, fatal blow.

He shouted, panicked, “Turn it off! Turn it off, now!”

But it was too late. The top-quality sound system broadcasted Fan Xiuzhi’s voice loud and clear to everyone’s ears…

No one had expected the Ning family’s situation to involve something as serious as a kidnapping case. The looks people gave Fan Xiuzhi were now filled with fear and disgust.

This woman is too vicious!

Even Ning Shaoyang rushed out in disbelief. “Mom—my mom, she…”

“Eldest Young Master Ning, this is…” One of the shareholders quickly stepped up with a sympathetic look and a tone full of sorrow. “How could things turn out like this?”

“Eldest Young Master Ning, looks like the Ning family’s future rests solely on you now.”

Rong Xin clicked his tongue, “These cunning old men sure react fast.”

Once the first shareholder made his move, the others immediately understood—Fan Xiuzhi and Ning Shaoyang were finished, but if Ning Shaobai became the true heir of the Ning family, their investments could be saved!

They all regretted their earlier stance. Why were they so eager to cooperate when Fan Xiuzhi’s scheming against her stepson? If Ning Shaobai had retained those shares, he wouldn’t have stood by and watched the company fall, would he?

Fortunately, it wasn’t too late.

“Who would’ve thought Fan Xiuzhi was this terrifying, and Ning Shaoyang just full of hot air? The Ning family really needs Eldest Young Master Ning.”

“Exactly—we’ve invested a lot in your company…”

“With Eldest Young Master Ning’s capability, we have nothing to worry about.”

Ning Shaobai interrupted the torrent of compliments with a calm smile. “I quite like Yan City and have no plan on leaving. So don’t worry—I absolutely will not touch the Ning family business.”

As the sound of sirens grew closer, he smiled again and said, “We still have my nephew’s situation to deal with. If you’ll excuse us for today.”

Fan Xiuzhi watched as the family steward rushed in, panicked. Her legs gave out, and she collapsed to the floor…
