Alas, they happened to run into him here. What rotten luck!

To keep a certain idiot’s over-inflated sense of superiority from getting any worse, Xia Mian went back to the private room to tell Ning Shaoyun what had happened.

Ning Shaoyun clearly had the same thoughts as Xia Mian and asked the stylist’s assistant to discreetly find out about Ren Xiude’s visit.

A short while later, the assistant returned, saying it seemed he was there with his mother and fiancée to get their hair done, and that the fiancée was also a member here.

Ning Shaoyun let out a long sigh of relief. “Then he probably won’t bother me again.”

Xia Mian also relaxed. “Anyone who can afford a membership here is either rich or influential. I saw how attentive he was just now—his fiancée must be quite formidable.”

Still, to be safe, they decided to avoid him whenever possible to prevent unnecessary trouble. Knowing the two women were also getting a perm—which took longer—they left without worry.

After leaving the studio, Xia Mian noticed Mao Huizhu staring intently at someone buying sodas nearby. Seeing the sweat on Xiao Feng’s forehead, she bought five bottles and told the children. “Drink up, then we’ll head back slowly.”

The three little ones immediately cheered. Ning Shaoyun smiled at them.

Xia Mian then turned her gaze to Ning Shaoyun, eyes shining. “I told you this hairstyle would be gorgeous, Sister Ning. You’re so stunning! Like an angel come to earth!”

Ning Shaoyun was amused. “Alright, alright—I know you have a sweet tongue.”

They were still chatting when an unpleasantly familiar voice called out, “Yun.”

What the hell?!

Xia Mian turned around to see Ren Xiude, who had somehow followed them out. He was looking at Ning Shaoyun with an expression of painful longing, as if they were lovers cruelly torn apart. It was so disgusting that Xia Mian had the impulse to punch him on the spot.

Chenchen remembered him and immediately stepped in front of Ning Shaoyun, his face stern as he said coldly, “My mom doesn’t know you. Go away!”

Seeing Ren Xiude frown at the child, Ning Shaoyun stepped forward to shield her son. Her voice was icy. “Mr. Ren, what’s your business? I hear you came today with your fiancée—do you want me to go say hello to her?”

Ren Xiude wiped his face, his tone pained. “So you’ve found out. She’s just a fiancée my mother chose for me. Yes, she’s a rich young lady, but I don’t love her. The only one I truly love is you.”

This was exactly the sort of cheesy line meant to dupe naive girls—so cringeworthy that Xia Mian actually shivered.

Xiao Feng glanced up at her, then hunched his neck and shivered too. Mao Huizhu copied him, and the two kids exchanged glances before bursting into giggles.

Ren Xiude’s “romantic” atmosphere was instantly ruined.

Ning Shaoyun patted Chenchen’s head and said with disgust, “Mr. Ren, I hope you realize I’m not some clueless little girl. You’re probably just unwilling to accept being rejected.”

“I’ll say it again: I have no intention of ‘climbing up’ to you. Please stop harassing me!”

But Ren Xiude took it as her acting out of jealousy and even reached out to grab her hand. “Yun, give me some time—I’ll definitely convince my mother.”

“Convince me of what? Don’t even think about it!”

The angry voice came from behind them. Everyone turned to see a middle-aged woman striding toward them.

It was the same woman who had been with Ren Xiude earlier—his mother. She stormed over, giving Ning Shaoyun a scornful once-over before sneering at her son. “So this is why you suddenly got distracted—you’ve been hooked by some wild vixen!”

“Before Qiqi finds out, get back inside right now!”

“Mom…” Ren Xiude frowned in disapproval. “This is the artist I told you about before. We’re just talking—please go back first.”

Mrs. Ren clearly didn’t believe him, snorting. “Artist? These days, anyone holding a brush calls themselves an artist. You’ve mentioned plenty of so-called artists to me.”

When she couldn’t drag her son away, she turned her ridicule on Ning Shaoyun. “I see you’re a mother yourself, yet here you are, seducing men in front of your child. It’s clear you’re not a decent woman. I advise you—”

“Ma’am!” Ning Shaoyun was so angry that her face turned pale. “Watch your mouth. It’s your son who’s been pestering me! Take him away immediately, or I’ll report him for harassment!”

“Bah!” Mrs. Ren’s voice was icy. “My son, pestering you? Look at yourself—you’re exactly the kind of vixen I thought.”

“A woman bringing her child to openly seduce a man on the street—ah!”

Xia Mian stared at Ning Shaoyun in surprise.

Ren Xiude was stunned as well. “Ning Shaoyun, what are you doing?!”

Ning Shaoyun upended an entire bottle of soda over Mrs. Ren’s head and said angrily, “Since you don’t know how to respect others, you’d better wash that mouth of yours!”

Drenched in soda, Mrs. Ren went into a frenzy. “You wretch! How dare you?!”

Seeing she was about to charge forward, Ning Shaoyun smashed the empty bottle at her feet, her beautiful face icy cold. “Now, take your son and get lost!”

Mrs. Ren flinched, and Ren Xiude’s face darkened. “Ning Shaoyun, don’t push your luck—”

Xia Mian silently handed her own soda bottle to Ning Shaoyun, who immediately hurled it at Ren Xiude’s shoulder. “I’ll say it again—get lost!”

The bottle was heavy, and in her fury, Ning Shaoyun didn’t hold back. Ren Xiude cried out in pain.

Mrs. Ren was instantly incensed. She charged straight at Ning Shaoyun. “You wretch—”

Xia Mian was about to step in when she felt something cool in her hand. Looking down, she saw Xiao Feng handing her his soda bottle, blinking his big eyes at her.

In the middle of the chaos, Xia Mian gave his little head a quick pat, then stepped forward, blocking Mrs. Ren. She grabbed her chin and poured soda straight into her mouth. “Auntie, that filthy mouth of yours needs a thorough wash!”

“You little brat! Stop it!” Ren Xiude lunged forward, shouting at Ning Shaoyun, “Ning Shaoyun, you’re just a second-hand good, what are you pretending to be chast—”

Before he could finish calling her a name, a figure suddenly rushed in and knocked him to the ground.

“Uncle Zhou!” Mao Huizhu cried happily, immediately running over to hand him her soda bottle.

Zhou Xuewen was clearly furious. Without hesitation, he took the bottle and smashed it down hard on Ren Xiude’s shoulder.

Mrs. Ren instantly forgot about Xia Mian, screaming as she rushed to her son. “Son! Son!”

Ren Xiude felt as if his shoulder bone was about to shatter, but Zhou Xuewen still wasn’t satisfied. He drew back his fist and pounded it into Ren Xiude’s face, one punch after another.

Mrs. Ren raised her bag to hit Zhou Xuewen, but Ning Shaoyun quickly grabbed Chenchen’s soda bottle and charged forward. “Go ahead, touch him—I’ll make sure you end up lying next to your son!”

Wow!

Xia Mian couldn’t help whistling. Xiao Feng watched with perfect calm, Mao Huizhu clapped and cheered, while Chenchen just stared stiffly, glancing between Ning Shaoyun and Zhou Xuewen as if he were seeing his parents for the first time.

When Ning Shaoyun judged it enough, she bent down to pull Zhou Xuewen’s arm. “That’s enough—you’ll kill him.”

Zhou Xuewen lifted his head, eyes blood-red, and looked at her. “Didn’t you say you could live just fine on your own? Then why do you let yourself be bullied by people like this?!”

Author’s Note:

The Mini Trio: “We’re walking ammunition depots.”

I saw comments saying the villain’s IQ dropped here, so let’s be clear—villains who make a lot of noise aren’t dumb down, they’re already stupid from begin with!

Villains with real brains wouldn’t provoke the Ning family unless there was a huge conflict of interest. Since I only write ordinary, slice-of-life plots, the odds of a high-IQ villain appearing are very low. Even if one did show up here, they would need to lower their IQ first. So please don’t complain.

I can only write the kind of idiots you might meet in daily life—and people like Ren Xiude aren’t exactly rare in the real world, right?
