Extra 1 Part 2 – The Side of Dr. Ning No One Else Would Ever Know (II)

Xia Mian smiled at Sun Yuexin and said, “Yes, I will understand him better.”

Li Lizhen looked shocked. “You still don’t understand him enough? Then you’re seriously failing as a girlfriend.”

Xia Mian didn’t know how to explain it. “When you fall in love and get married yourselves someday, you’ll understand.”

It wasn’t that she had failed as a girlfriend. It was that out of respect and care for her, Ning Shaobai had never shown her the true depth of his desire before. The overwhelming, dangerous passion that made her tremble had been deliberately hidden by him, determined to reserve it all for after marriage.

And now, because the approaching wedding had caused him to lose some of his restraint, she had finally glimpsed the tip of the iceberg.

At the beginning of May, on Ning Shaobai’s birthday, Xia Mian had specially taken a whole day off to spend with him.

Ning Shaobai had also taken half a day off work. They didn’t do anything particularly special—just like any ordinary couple: eating together, watching a movie, exchanging gifts, and then Xia Mian drove him to Lovers’ Lake to relax.

Lovers’ Lake was a newly developed park outside the Fourth Ring Road. Xia Mian had heard people say it was perfect as a date destination, especially at night, when it was supposedly incredibly romantic.

So she drove Ning Shaobai there.

But after the two of them stood on the high slope beside the lake, they looked at each other speechlessly.

Xia Mian had deliberately chosen to come after dark, yet aside from a winding little path along the lakeshore faintly illuminated by weak streetlights, the lake and everything around it were almost entirely swallowed by darkness.

They could only tell there was grass beneath her feet through touch alone…

She couldn’t help grumbling, “What’s even supposed to be worth seeing here?”

Ning Shaobai laughed. “Weren’t you the one who brought me here? How would I know?”

Xia Mian said, “I only heard it from other people. They said this place is especially romantic and exciting at night.”

Ning Shaobai didn’t respond. In the darkness, Xia Mian couldn’t see his expression clearly, so she simply swung his hand lightly and said, “Since we’re already here, let’s go down and take a look. Maybe there really is something exciting.”

Naturally, Ning Shaobai had no objection. So Xia Mian returned to the car to grab a flashlight, and the two of them headed down together.

There were no steps on the slope, and it was covered in grass. The ground was uneven, and Xia Mian stumbled awkwardly the whole way down, holding the flashlight in one hand while dragging Ning Shaobai with the other. Only after they safely reached the little path below did she finally let out a sigh of relief. Looking at Ning Shaobai, she laughed and said, “Maybe this is what they meant. Walking around in the dark really is nerve-wracking, huh?”

Then she grinned mischievously. “Falling down would definitely make it exciting.”

Ning Shaobai’s expression looked somewhat strange. Xia Mian asked, “What’s wrong?”

Without saying anything, Ning Shaobai led her forward a few more steps, and Xia Mian suddenly stiffened.

Earlier, she had been concentrating too hard on walking to notice anything. But now, she could hear noises coming from the darkness…

As someone with dating experience and plenty of theoretical knowledge, she naturally understood exactly what those sounds were.

At this point, she didn’t dare look at Ning Shaobai’s expression anymore. Instead, she reversed roles and hurriedly dragged him forward, trying to avoid that embarrassingly intimate couple. But she quickly realized she was mistaken…

She really wanted to curse whoever had spread the rumors, only to discover that the rumors actually weren’t wrong. This damn place really was a lovers’ rendezvous spot… and truly was incredibly thrilling!

Xia Mian stared at the even dimmer lights farther ahead and abruptly stopped walking. It was even darker over there, which probably meant even more “excitement.” As an innocent passerby, she definitely couldn’t handle it…

A soft laugh sounded above her head.

“I don’t think this is very interesting,” Ning Shaobai said. “Let’s go back.”

Dr. Ning was indeed considerate! Xia Mian felt as though she’d been pardoned from disaster and immediately replied, “Yeah, it’s really not interesting at all. I can’t listen to random gossip next time.” Then she added, “Next time I’ll personally inspect the place beforehand.”

“No need.” Ning Shaobai smiled in a way that carried an unclear meaning. “Your arrangements were pretty good.”

Xia Mian had the distinct feeling that his words carried some hidden implication, but she was far too embarrassed to think deeply about it. Pulling Ning Shaobai along, she quickly retraced their path. But when they reached the spot where they had originally come down, they discovered another couple already standing there.

As though sensing her speechless frustration, Ning Shaobai led her to another area. After confirming there were no suspicious sounds nearby, Xia Mian held up the flashlight with one hand and tightly grabbed Ning Shaobai with the other, walking as quickly as possible for fear of running into yet another couple.

But halfway up the slope, Xia Mian still stepped into a small hole and inevitably twisted her ankle, pitching forward directly. For some reason, Ning Shaobai, who had been behind her, failed to pull her back and instead fell down together with her.

A strong arm wrapped protectively across her chest while his other hand braced against the grass. His tall body hovered over hers protectively.

“You okay?”

“I’m fine.” Xia Mian confirmed that her ankle was alright, then belatedly realized something, causing her cheeks to flush red.

She thought that in the pitch darkness, and in such a rushed moment, even Dr. Ning couldn’t possibly be careful about everything. Accidentally touching somewhere he shouldn’t have was only natural.

Although she felt a little embarrassed, Xia Mian didn’t pay it too much mind. No one understood Ning Shaobai’s restraint better than she did. Over the past four years, during playful moments or passionate moments, there had occasionally been accidental contact too. Ning Shaobai would usually move away on his own accord, as if nothing had happened.

Naturally, she assumed this time would be the same. So she leaned back slightly, wanting to ask if Ning Shaobai was alright.

“Dr. Ning, are you—”

Her body pressed directly against the chest behind her… and yet Ning Shaobai hadn’t moved.

And the hand wrapped across her chest not only failed to withdraw, but instead followed after her heavily…

Xia Mian: “…”

She swallowed hard, suddenly finding it difficult to breathe. After a long pause, she whispered softly, “Dr. Ning?”

“Mhm.” The hand Ning Shaobai had been using to support himself against the ground suddenly loosened, and Xia Mian was immediately pressed flat against the grass beneath his weight. Meanwhile, his other hand still steadfastly “protected” her, not moving away at all.

Well, not exactly unmoving…

Unable to help herself, Xia Mian grabbed his wrist, her voice trembling slightly. “Dr. Ning.”

“Mhm, I’m here.” Ning Shaobai used his free hand to tilt her chin toward him. A scorching breath quickly sealed over her lips as he murmured hoarsely, “It’s me…”

…

Who knew how much time had passed before Xia Mian, dizzy and dazed, was finally pulled upright by Ning Shaobai. He calmly and methodically straightened the clothes he himself had messed up before asking, “Want me to carry you?”

Xia Mian hurriedly shook her head. Ning Shaobai kissed her forehead and chuckled softly. “Since we already came here, we should at least experience it properly.”

After a moment, he added, “This place really does live up to its reputation.”

Xia Mian: “…”

Only after they climbed back up the slope did Ning Shaobai finally turn to look at the silent Xia Mian and ask gently, “Did I scare you?”

That familiar version of Ning Shaobai had returned. Xia Mian shook her head.

It was just… her first time seeing him act so… shamelessly flirtatious. It felt a little unfamiliar.

And there was also a strange sense of danger…

In fact, her instincts were correct. Men were naturally extremely enthusiastic about expanding their territory, especially someone like Ning Shaobai, who would resolutely carry through once he had made up his mind.

Xia Mian opened the car door, wanting to hurry and leave this place, when Ning Shaobai suddenly grabbed her.

“What’s wrong?” Xia Mian asked in confusion.

Ning Shaobai suddenly laughed softly. “Since we already came here, wouldn’t it be a waste not to do something exciting? Otherwise your thoughtful planning would be for nothing…”

As he spoke, he directly pushed her into the back seat of the car…

And that very night, Xia Mian agreed to a whole series of unequal treaties—such as moving the wedding date earlier and not excessively tormenting the groom during the wedding ceremony.

Although Ning Shaobai still restrained himself from going all the way in the end, the marks covering her body were enough for Xia Mian to realize that marriage really would be different:

Dr. Ning’s fierce, wild, seductive side that no one else would ever know would slowly reveal itself before her eyes… and belong only to her.

Author’s Note:

Xia Mian: “I never expected you to be this kind of Dr. Ning!”

Ning Shaobai: “Since we’re already here…”

So? Was it exciting or not?
