Extra 3 Part 1 – Dr. Ning Expands His Knowledge Base (I)
Zhu Yiqing and Zhu Jiarui struggled to their feet in a disheveled state.
Hearing Xia Mian twisting the truth, Zhu Yiqing clutched her shoulder, tears welling in her eyes as she put on a pitiful expression.
Having Zhu Jiarui step forward was enough. Rich young masters like them couldn’t stand being wrongfully accused, while all she needed to do was to deliver a devastating blow on Xia Mian at the appropriate moment.
They had all seen Xia Mian’s aggression upon entering. No matter how one looked at it, victory was already in her grasp!
However, things seemed somewhat different from what Zhu Yiqing had imagined. Before Zhu Jiarui had a chance to speak, a young man standing behind Ning Shaobai suddenly stepped forward.
“Zhu Jiarui?”
Only then did Zhu Jiarui shift his gaze away from Xia Mian and Ning Shaobai. He froze for a moment. “Big Brother?”
Zhu Jiadong frowned deeply. “Why are you here?”
Though Zhu Jiarui was every bit a typical rich, spoiled playboy, he was very good at reading the situation. Sensing something wrong in Zhu Jiadong’s tone, he swallowed the insults he had been about to throw at Xia Mian and cautiously forced a smile. “I came with some friends.”
Rong Xin asked in confusion, “This is your younger brother? Why haven’t I seen him before?”
With a headache, Zhu Jiadong replied, “He’s the son of my father’s cousin. He’s been overseas these past few years and only recently came back. We don’t really keep in touch.”
The way he worded it was clearly to draw a line between them. Zhu Jiarui instantly panicked. When Zhu Jiadong looked at him sternly and asked, “What exactly happened here?” Zhu Jiarui realized that he might have offended the wrong people.
As he was thinking about how to phrase things more favorably, Zhu Yiqing had already noticed that Zhu Jiadong held more authority than Zhu Jiarui. She immediately changed her strategy and spoke aggrievedly.
“Didn’t you all see it? Xia Mian was obviously bullying people, and now she’s turning the tables and accusing us instead!”
Xia Mian, who had been pretending to cry in Ning Shaobai’s arms, turned her head and snorted. “I bullied you. So what?!”
“Bad woman! If you keep talking nonsense, I’ll bite you!”
“Rawr!” She bared her teeth to threaten Zhu Yiqing before turning back to cling to Ning Shaobai. “Waaah, Dr. Ning, she’s so scary! She wants to bite me…”
She even stomped her feet as though genuinely frightened.
Rong Xin couldn’t stop laughing. “Xia Mian, you’re making it way too obvious!”
Tears slid down Zhu Yiqing’s cheeks. “People say alcohol reveals one’s true nature. She’s always framing people and making false accusations…” As she spoke, she looked pitifully toward the men opposite her.
Usually, whenever she acted like this, men would share her indignation and comfort her gently.
But her plan failed yet again. Instead of showing sympathy, Rong Xin sighed in melancholy, “Alas, there are so many drama queens around, how come our company never manages to sign one?”
“There’s still a difference between a real drama queen and someone who is good at pretending,” Ning Shaobai remarked coldly. Then he patted Xia Mian’s back. “Let’s go back to the room.”
This level of cuteness was something he would rather appreciate slowly by himself!
Zhu Jiadong ignored Zhu Yiqing entirely. After knowing Xia Mian for so many years, they understood her personality well enough. She lived by the principle: if others didn’t provoke her, she wouldn’t provoke them; but if someone offended her, she would definitely strike back. If Xia Mian was teaching this woman a lesson, there had to be a reason for it.
He turned directly to Zhu Jiarui. “You tell me. What exactly happened?”
Just as Zhu Jiarui was about to speak, Xia Mian suddenly raised her hand and shouted loudly, “I tell you!”
Then she looked up at Ning Shaobai with a fierce expression and demanded, “Dr. Ning, how dare you cheat on me?!”
Everyone was full of question marks, while Ning Shaobai was so exasperated that he laughed. “And where is this coming from?”
“Princess Zhu said she saw you kissing another woman at the hospital!” Xia Mian widened her eyes, hands on her hips, looking both angry and indignant.
Without even glancing at Zhu Yiqing, Ning Shaobai closed his eyes briefly and tugged at Xia Mian’s tuft in annoyance.
“You actually believed that?”
Xia Mian answered firmly, “Of course I didn’t!”
The next second, she broke into a cheerful grin and snickered mischievously.
“She’s just an idiot. I was fooling her.”
“Our Dr. Ning would never do something as low as cheating!” She cupped Ning Shaobai’s face with both hands.
“Dr. Ning is a very principled man. If he ever fell for someone else, he’d break up first—he’d never cheat!”
“Thanks for the compliment,” Ning Shaobai said through gritted teeth, unsure whether to be annoyed or pleased. “Don’t worry. I won’t like anyone else, and I won’t break up either.”
“Yeah, yeah.” Xia Mian nodded, who knew if she actually heard him, and went on, “Princess Zhu is just jealous of me. I’m too outstanding—pretty, good grades, and I’ve got the best boyfriend in the world!”
“So she spread rumors to drive a wedge between us.” Xia Mian let out a haughty snort, hanging off Ning Shaobai’s neck. “But I’m so smart. Of course I saw through her evil scheme right away!”
At that, she lifted a hand to her mouth and “whispered” to Ning Shaobai, “So I framed them instead.”
Then she giggled like a little fox who had just pulled off a prank. “Dr. Ning, am I amazing or what?”
“Amazing, amazing.” Ning Shaobai wrapped an arm around her and guided her toward the door. “You’re drunk. I’m taking you to rest.”
“I’m not drunk.” Xia Mian first clarified solemnly, then broke into a grin again, her tone full of indulgence. “But if Dr. Ning says I’m drunk, then I’m drunk…”
Rong Xin couldn’t help but whistle. “Brother Bai, you’re really blessed.”
Ning Shaobai laughed. This girl always had a way of dissolving his anger.
Xia Mian spread her arms. “Hug.”
He pulled her into his arms, but she wriggled in protest. “Not like that. I want a princess carry. Princess carry me back!”
“Alright, alright,” Ning Shaobai said helplessly. “Stop moving.”
She nodded obediently. Ning Shaobai bent down, slipped an arm under her knees, and lifted her up. Only then did Xia Mian look satisfied, wrapping her arms around his neck and nuzzling into the hollow of his shoulder. “Hehe, let’s go home!”
Ning Shaobai turned back to Ma Yingying’s group. “I’ll have someone arrange a ride for you later. Be careful on your way back.”
Then to Zhu Jiadong, “I’ll leave things here to you.”
Zhu Jiadong nodded.
Used to being the center of attention wherever she went, Zhu Yiqing had been ignored from beginning to end this time. The humiliation burned.
She still couldn’t quite figure out who these people were, but she was certain she was in the right. So she spoke up indignantly, “Dr. Ning, Xia Mian already admitted it herself. She hit someone and framed us. Shouldn’t you apologize?”
Her voice was still filled with grievance, perfectly presenting herself as the victim to highlight Xia Mian’s supposed arrogant and unreasonable behavior.
Xia Mian, who had finally quieted down, immediately widened her eyes at the sound of her voice. She straightened and jumped out of Ning Shaobai’s arms, pointing at Zhu Yiqing.
“Apologize for what? Why should my Dr. Ning apologize to you?”
“You slandered my Dr. Ning, and I haven’t even settled that with you yet!” She waved her fist in warning. “If you keep making trouble, I’ll really hit you!”
Since Zhu Yiqing dared to speak, she had already prepared her explanation for the so-called slander. There were so many doctors in the hospital, accidentally mistaking someone was quite possible.
But Xia Mian didn’t even bother asking. Ning Shaobai, from beginning to end, had only cared whether Xia Mian believed the rumor. After that, he completely ignored Zhu Yiqing.
It wasn’t until Xia Mian looked up at him fiercely and said, “She still wants to attend our wedding. That’s not allowed. She’s not allowed to come!”
Only then did Ning Shaobai glance at Zhu Yiqing before coaxing Xia Mian, “She wasn’t invited to begin with. She can’t attend.”
Zhu Yiqing nearly choked with anger. She wanted to snap back, “As if I’d care,” but in front of the men, she had to maintain her image. Frowning, she said, “When did I ever say I wanted to attend your wedding?”
Sun Yuexin sneered, “Don’t worry. Even if you wanted to, you wouldn’t be able to.”
Since Xia Mian hadn’t suffered any loss, Ning Shaobai didn’t bother engaging further. He only wanted to take her away quickly. “Still want that hug?”
“Hug!” Xia Mian grinned and suddenly leapt up, wrapping her legs around Ning Shaobai’s waist. Caught off guard, he staggered back a step before regaining his balance, annoyed enough to swat her leg lightly. “Careful.”
Satisfied, Xia Mian lay against his shoulder and made a face at Zhu Yiqing, who was so furious she almost fainted.
Rong Xin couldn’t be bothered with such trivial matters. He patted Zhu Jiadong on the shoulder and followed after Ning Shaobai. Watching Xia Mian drunk was far more entertaining!
Others could leave, but there was no avoiding this for Zhu Jiadong. With a stern face, he said to Zhu Jiarui, “Speak. What exactly happened?”
Zhu Jiarui said awkwardly, “Yiqing said she was Xia Mian’s roommate. She heard Xia Mian was getting married soon, so she came in to say hello. You know how women are—they started competing with each other. It’s really not a big deal.”
Seeing that asking him was pointless, Zhu Jiadong turned to Ma Yingying and the others. “You tell me. What happened?”
The girls spoke over one another and explained everything clearly. When Zhu Jiadong heard that Zhu Jiarui had backed Zhu Yiqing up and had even recklessly tried to take advantage of Xia Mian, he immediately lifted his leg and kicked this troublesome cousin of his.
“If you want to die, say so earlier! I’ll send you off myself. Don’t bring trouble to the family!”
Zhu Jiarui hurriedly said, “But I really didn’t know! You cannot blame me! Zhu Yiqing said she was her roommate. I thought she was just an ordinary student!”
“Brother, who exactly is she? Why is she so impressive? Even Young Master Rong is so protective of her.”
Zhu Jiadong glanced at Zhu Yiqing and said coldly, “She’s Young Master Ning’s fiancée. Even I have to show her respect. What do you think?”
