Qiao Xinhui found herself in a delicate situation and expressed, “Mom and Dad have decided to hold off on revealing your return for now. There are a couple of reasons behind this. Firstly, Grandfather and Grandmother aren’t in the best of health, and considering their age, they might not handle intense emotions well. Secondly, the household is bustling with numerous relatives. If news of your return gets out, it might attract a crowd. Moreover, if your identity becomes public, the media will swarm you for coverage. Your every move will be under scrutiny, leaving you with little personal space.”
Fearing Fang Yuan might overthink the situation, Qiao Xinhui added, “Rest assured, as the right time comes, your Dad and I will make a formal announcement to everyone.”
Fang Yuan hadn’t anticipated her mother bringing up this topic and responded, “I’m not too concerned about that.” The announcement and the ceremonies surrounding it weren’t significant to her. She simply wished for family togetherness and care.
Observing her pragmatic daughter, Qiao Xinhui beamed with pride and encouraged her to eat more. They continued their conversation after the meal, until Fang Yuan’s phone interrupted them. Qiao Xinhui then took her leave.
“I’m home,” came Bo Yi’s voice.
“These clothes you got me are really excessive. I won’t be able to wear them all,” Fang Yuan mentioned, catching a whiff of the new clothes. “Could you return some of them?” Wearing everything seemed wasteful; she could potentially sell the extras to others.
Bo Yi’s response was indulgent, “Don’t worry about it. Keep them and wear them at your own pace.” He continued, “How about we go out tomorrow? Any place you’re itching to visit?”
Fang Yuan replied, “I can’t, I have work.”
Bo Yi sounded surprised, “Summer internship?”
“Yes,” Fang Yuan affirmed.
Bo Yi inquired further, “Did your parents agree?”
Fang Yuan confirmed, “Yes, they let me join their company.”
Bo Yi sounded a tad disappointed, but suggested, “Shall I drop you off?”
“No need, it’s quite close to home,” Fang Yuan declined.
“Why is work necessary for you?” Bo Yi’s heart twinged with a pang of concern. Could it be that she was running low on funds? But upon closer thought, the incident where he handed her a blank check after her surgery crossed his mind. It wasn’t about money.
Fang Yuan responded, “I’m planning to enjoy myself. Summer break leaves me with nothing to do.” If she stayed home, her parents would have to transfer money to her daily. She felt compelled to work, albeit reluctantly.
Bo Yi’s charming voice resounded, “Why not come have some fun at my company? It’s quite an enjoyable environment.”
Fang Yuan,”…”
“You’re free to amuse yourself however you like,” Bo Yi continued persuading.
Fang Yuan,”…”
“With me around, 1 can ensure you’re taken care of,” Bo Yi added.
Fang Yuan politely declined, “That won’t be necessary.”
“Give it some thought?” It was Bo Yi’s first experience in hiring someone.
Fang Yuan declined without a second thought, “Thank you, but this job suits me.”
Bo Yi persisted, “Are you determined to play?”
Fang Yuan affirmed, “Yes.”
“Alright then, have fun for a couple of days. If you find it unenjoyable, you can always come to my place,” Bo Yi suggested. He didn’t want her working outside because he’d miss seeing her throughout the work hours. Being fairly new to the world of work, she might not fully grasp its intricacies. He worried she might encounter difficulties…
The next morning came swiftly.
As Fang Liguo entered the company’s main entrance, he spotted his secretary standing nearby, seemingly awaiting his arrival. In high spirits, he greeted the secretary with a smile, “Zhuang, you’re here so early today.”
“President Fang, you’ve arrived at last!” Secretary Zhuang’s expression was visibly distressed, almost on the brink of tears. “We’re in trouble. Today, I’ve received multiple calls from different companies indicating their intention to terminate our cooperation!”
Fang Liguo was taken aback. “Has the contract expired?”
Secretary Zhuang clarified, “No.”
Fang Liguo probed, “Are they dissatisfied with the current terms? That’s manageable. Engage in discussions with them.”
“They’ve declared their complete cessation of cooperation. These firms have put us on their blacklist.”
As Secretary Zhuang conveyed this, Fang Liguo was utterly bewildered. “For what reason?”
His mind struggled to process the sudden revelation. “Did they find a more suitable partner?”
Secretary Zhuang hesitated, feeling uneasy about disclosing it.
“Why the hesitation?” Fang Liguo’s annoyance surfaced. “If you have something to say, say it. Our years of collaboration wouldn’t be discarded just because you uttered a wrong sentence.”
“President Fang, 1 know you won’t do that. But, their remarks are rather impolite… I feared you wouldn’t take it well,” Secretary Zhuang grappled with the message he needed to convey.
However, his reluctance only fueled Fang Liguo’s curiosity further.
Guided by Secretary Zhuang, Fang Liguo proceeded to his office via the elevator. It was within the confines of his office that the truth was finally revealed. “They referred to you as an imbecile directly over the phone. They expressed their complete exasperation with you and have sworn off any future collaborations… Their words were anything but kind.”
Fang Liguo’s countenance darkened. “Which company said this?” The audacity of such uncouth behavior angered him. Terminating a partnership was one thing, but indulging in insults?
“Three companies, to be precise. The largest of them was particularly scathing…” Secretary Zhuang struggled to articulate his astonishment.
Fang Liguo was rendered speechless by the revelation. “Fangyuan Capital said that?”
Secretary Zhuang, “Yes…”
