Chapter 717 Complicated Matters of Officials 2
Chapter 717 Complicated Matters of Officials 2
For the last day, Jason didn't make things hard for George. It was only a simple visit to the garden near the airport. After all, nature was part of the important element in a city. There was a lot of nature in this city because some parts were undeveloped, so they would surely pass this category.
Looking at the trees in front of him, George nodded with satisfaction. "The nature in this forest seems to be in perfect condition. I expect no less from an undeveloped city."
"Many thanks for your compliment," Jason smiled.
"There are still a lot of room for improvement. Many types of plants didn't exist in this city, so you might want to try developing them too."
"I'll surely look into the information for that."
George smiled when he got a positive response. Looking at the city's overall situation, he knew that they didn't show him everything. The reason this city got the nickname as 'City of Crime' shouldn't be that simple. However, he could sense that this city was heading towards the path of normal cities, the same cities as the rest.
For this point alone, he knew that this was a city worth developing. It might take years, decades, or even a century to catch up with the other cities. Still, there was no need for them to exert military force just to deal with a city that still could stand on its own.
The country was not that idle.
"Is it the time yet?"
Jason checked his watch. "We can go to the airport now if you want. The plane with depart in around an hour."
"Sure," George nodded his head amiably. "It's better to be early than late."
Arranging the car to pick them up, Jason took George to the airport. It was easy and only took several minutes because the airport was close to the garden that George visited.
"She never returns, right?" George suddenly asked.
Jason raised his head. "I'm not sure myself. I hadn't got the report regarding Mrs. Erica."
Even though Jason said that, George could sense that the woman would never return. There was a reason why his higher ups told him to follow the rule strictly and never crossed the boundaries. This city has started to develop into a proper city, but a proper city has their own rules and hidden secret.
George looked at the airport not far from them. "There are several factions in the country's government. Even though no one will be foolish enough to launch full scale attack, it wouldn't be easy to escape murder."
This time, the warning sounded clearer and urgent. It seemed that the factions in the government were truly not something they should underestimate. The unknown power they had would become a factor that might hinder this city.
Still, Jason didn't feel any worry.
Smiling cheerfully, Jason replied. "It's something that we have to face sooner or later. It's not like this is a secluded city."
'Ah,' from Jason's expression, George didn't know how much they knew regarding the factions in the country's government. But he knew that they had their own plan.
"We have arrived, let's go Mr. George."
"Thank you for your assistance for the last few days, Young Master Jason. It's truly a pleasant journey to stay with you," George stretched out his hand for a handshake.
Shaking their hand, the two men bid their farewell. Standing in the airport, Jason felt relieved that his job has been over. The continuous act that he had to keep up was straining his consciousness because he was not used to keep acting for days without any rest.
'I guess, this is also a form of training,' Jason scratched his back and returned back to his car. What he wanted the most was sleeping.
While Jason was thinking about sleeping, George waited until the plane was in the air before taking out his phone. He dialed his higher-ups.
"George! How's the result? You didn't contact me at all."
"My apologies, Sir. The city is far more interesting than what they have shown," George replied. "There are still some unknown matters that they hide, but they won't be a threat for other cities."
The others' side stayed silent for several seconds. "Do you know what you're talking about? If we left the city and didn't attack them, they'll surely produce more monsters in Ferdinand's level. At that time, they'll become a huge threat for the other cities."
"It won't happen," George responded without any hesitation. From the way people acted in the city, he could guess that they were all normal human beings. There was not a single person that he saw had the superhuman capabilities. That Ferdinand must be only one genius that appeared only once for thousand years.
While being monitored, he had tried to dig into the city's history. Even though he didn't have any complete information, he could guess that the superhuman ability that Ferdinand had didn't exist in other people.
The leader could hear the firm tone from George and knew that this man must have conducted his own research. Every single member in the country's government has their own method and background. Secret and danger lurked around everywhere.
"I understand, but they will not be able to escape investigation because of Erica. Her employer was furious when they lost the signal from her."
"That'll depend on them," George remarked calmly.
After the long call, George sighed in his chair. He was no longer a young man with excessive energy. The constant pressure and tense atmosphere started to make him feel uncomfortable. Looking out from the window, he sighed to himself.
'She's dead. How foolish.'
Even though they have been together for the last few days, George didn't know Erica that well. They were only acquaintances for this mission, so he didn't really care for the other party. There was not even the slightest care because he knew that their lives were filled with competition with each other.
Everyone was replaceable, making it difficult for them to climb to a higher position. It was this competition that made them show more of their egoistical nature, even if it was only for a simple mission.
'I have to rest.'
….
Kanae looked at Patrick with confusion. "Father, why don't you answer the call?"
"Uh, this," Patrick looked at the phone in his hand. Matt has been trying to call him a few times on their journey to the hospital, but he didn't have any intention to answer. He knew that Matt must be angry because their plan pushed Erica to her death.
After all, it was not easy to explain to them why that woman had died in the supposedly 'safe' city.
"Uncle, you should answer," Kevin reminded.
Patrick looked at the phone once again. He sighed with resignation as he picked up the call. The familiar voice of his junior sounded from the phone.
"Senior Pat, I hope you can explain what's the meaning of Erica's death."
The raging tone in Matt's voice couldn't be concealed. If that man had stood in front of them, Patrick was sure that Matt would be filled with killing intent, ready to fight him to the bitter end.
"It's an accident. How do you know so quickly?"
"There's a tracker in every member that will inform them as soon as they died," Matt rubbed his forehead. "They're not really happy with your action of killing that woman."
"We didn't really kill her," Patrick scratched the back of his head. In a way, they could be said to kill her because they were the one who caused the avalanche. However, even with proper investigation he was certain that they could get away.
Neo had avoided shooting the woman directly. They have cleaned up the trace of battle in the road and lastly, there was no explosive remaining. It would be a simple accident in the mountain.
"Even if you don't, the fact that she died in your city will make things complicated. There are various power struggles in the capital and here, it's much more complicated compared with your small city. I'll need proof of her accident. Anything you can give, just send it to me."
"Ok, I'll ask Lou," Patrick conceded.
"Good."
"Will things end with them?"
"I'm not sure myself," Matt replied truthfully. "We might require eyewitness or just some people to represent your city. It'll depend on how they react to the news of her death."
"Represent?" Patrick was stunned. "You don't mean…."
"If it's necessary, I'll need some of you to come to the capital city."
