Chapter 2669  Sharing Information And Spoils

The hunters had been struggling with these beasts, yet Lin Mu had subdued them effortlessly.

"What are you all waiting for? Get them!" the leader shouted.

Hearing their leader's call, the others leaped at the chance.

SLICK SLICK SLICK

The hunters stabbed their spears through the bodies of the beasts, not letting them move. The impaled deer were unable to struggle, and life quickly drained from their eyes.

HUU

They took a breath of relief after confirming that their targets were truly dead.

"T-Thank you, Fellow Daoist!" the leader said, clasping his hands in gratitude. "You have our deepest appreciation. Without your help, this hunt might have turned disastrous."

Lin Mu simply nodded, glancing down at the two fallen deer. "What are these creatures? I've never seen their kind before."

The leader hesitated before answering. "They're called Thorn Fang Deer. A rare and aggressive variant that has started to appear in recent years. They are much stronger than normal deer and highly territorial."

"They're not native here?" Lin Mu asked with some interest.

"Indeed. Most of the deer beasts living here, like the High Crown Deer, Galloping Meadow Deer, and the White Spotted Roe Deer, are all herbivores. But these are carnivores and hunt other deer," the leader replied.

"I see… They did look very aggressive, seeing that they charged right at me instead of running away like others," Lin Mu remarked.

"Yeah, they hunt in groups of four to six and usually overwhelm others with numbers. If they encounter any creature that is fewer in number than them, they'll attack it," the leader explained.

"So you killed others?" Lin Mu guessed, noting their injuries.

"Yeah, we managed to kill two of them before these made a break for it," the leader answered. "Thankfully, you stopped them," he added.

"Yeah, it could've gone really bad if they had managed to escape and join up with their herd. They tend to come back for revenge and bring their full herd for it," another hunter added.

"I see… That's quite strange behavior for deer," Lin Mu muttered.

"Yeah, they've already attacked quite a few people who came to the forest and have been giving hunters a hard time," a hunter with an injured shoulder said.

"Your wound looks deep. You should take care of it first," Lin Mu suggested.

"Ah, yes," the man replied before taking out a bottle of ointment and applying it to his wound.

He then swallowed a healing pill and sat down to recuperate. The other injured hunters did the same while the leader approached Lin Mu.

"I am Hunter Chung Pung," the leader introduced himself. "May I know your name?" he asked.

"I am Lin Mu."

"I see, so it's Daoist Lin Mu. It's nice to meet you," the hunter said politely.

While he couldn't tell Lin Mu's cultivation base, his experience told him that he was quite strong, especially after seeing how easily he twisted the Thorn Fang Deer's necks and tossed them to the ground as if they were mere rag dolls.

Even as a Third Tribulation Stage Immortal, he would find it hard—especially handling two beasts at once.

The Thorn Fang Deer were especially hardy, and their raw strength was no less than tigers. A Qi cultivator would find it difficult to match them in a head-on conflict.

"Are you a hunter too, Daoist Lin Mu?" the leader asked as he sat down and took out a bottle of water.

"No, just passing through," Lin Mu answered.

"I see, then you should be careful," the leader warned.

"Why?" Lin Mu wondered.

"The beasts have been getting a bit too aggressive recently, plus the appearance of new beasts like the Thorn Fang Deer is also troubling," Chung Pung answered. "There are talks of a potential Beast Wave coming," he added.

"Oh?" Having read the books in Ram Orchard City, Lin Mu knew that these were classic signs of a Beast Wave before it started.

Beasts from deeper regions would start moving outwards, while the local beasts would get pushed further.

"So far, the situation near Ram Orchard City hasn't been too bad, but nearby towns and cities have been reporting more people getting injured than usual," Chung Pung spoke.

"Are the authorities not dealing with it?" Lin Mu inquired.

"That's why we're here," Chung Pung replied. "Bounties have already been placed on beasts, and we've been ordered to hunt them down," he stated.

"I see," Lin Mu said before glancing at the two dead deer. "How much is the bounty for these?" he pointed at the corpses.

"About fifty mid-grade immortal stones for each," Chung Pung answered. "Ah, your share will be twenty mid-grade immortal stones," he added.

"That's fine," Lin Mu said. He didn't mind.

It was a pittance to him anyway. He was merely interested in their worth.

"Though if you wish, you can also have the materials," Chung Pung offered.

"Yeah, that was my intention," Lin Mu replied.

"What would you like?" the man asked. "Their horns are worth the most as they are used in Immortal Weapons. Their hide comes in second, while their hooves are the last," he informed.

"How about their flesh?" Lin Mu asked instead.

"Their flesh?" Chung Pung raised his brows. "Their flesh isn't worth much. It's tough and a bit poisonous to consume, so it's only fed to other beasts that can digest it," he stated.

"That's fine. I'll just take it," Lin Mu decided.

"If it's just flesh you want, you can take it all," the man offered.

"Thanks," Lin Mu said.

Lin Mu hummed in thought before looking at the rest of the men, who were feeling better. "Shall we divide the spoils now?"

"Of course," Chung Pung said as he ordered his men to butcher the two deer.

The men worked quickly and were very efficient at butchering the beasts. In just ten minutes, they had finished the work, and a nice pile of venison was ready for Lin Mu to take.

Lin Mu quickly stored it away while the hunters did the same.
