Chapter 3769: A Tough Decision

Chapter 3769: A Tough Decision

The old man looked at the young man thoughtfully.

A decision was already beginning to form within his heart. Originally he had only intended to rescue the missing villager. But now things felt different... Very different. The more he observed Little Bull, the more extraordinary the young man seemed.

His mysterious physique and his immense vitality.

His character and his perseverance.

And perhaps most importantly, his heart.

He Jian had traveled this world searching for disciples.

For nearly a year, he had found just a couple worthy enough but none were at the level he really wished for.

Yet now, standing before him in this tiny village, he could not help wondering if fate had finally placed the person he was searching for directly in his path.

"I wish to bring Little Bull with me." He Jian finally stated.

The villagers fell silent after hearing He Jian’s words.

The celebration that had started after Little Bull’s return gradually became more subdued as everyone thought about what the old immortal had said.

They had spent the entire day rejoicing over the fact that the young man was alive. The fear, guilt and grief that had plagued them for an entire month had finally lifted from their shoulders.

Yet now another choice stood before them.

It was a choice that none of them particularly liked.

Little Bull had always been part of Honey God Village. Most of the villagers had watched him grow up. Some had fed him when he was little. Others had taught him how to plow fields, harvest crops, gather herbs and hunt spirit beasts.

The old women had scolded him whenever he did something foolish. The children followed him around because he could carry all of them at once on his shoulders. The men relied on him whenever something heavy needed moving.

Little Bull was not related to them by blood and yet he belonged to the village more than anyone else.

The thought of sending him away naturally made them reluctant.

Still, the more they thought about his situation, the more they understood that keeping him here might not be the right choice.

The village elder finally spoke.

His wrinkled face was filled with concern as he looked at Little Bull who was currently sitting on the ground eating honey cakes while completely oblivious to the seriousness of the discussion.

"If the immortal elder truly believes there is a chance to heal him..." the old man said quietly. "Then we cannot stop him."

Several villagers lowered their heads.

A middle aged woman wiped her eyes.

"But what if he never remembers us?" she asked softly.

No one answered immediately.

Even He Jian remained silent.

The woman looked toward Little Bull.

The young man was currently stuffing an entire honey cake into his mouth. He blinked when he noticed everyone staring at him. Then he awkwardly offered the remaining half of the cake.

"You want some?"

Several people immediately burst into laughter despite the tears in their eyes.

The tension eased slightly.

The village elder sighed.

"Whether he remembers us or not isn’t important."

Everyone looked toward him.

"What matters is that he’s alive."

The old man smiled. "And if he can have a better future, then we should be happy for him."

Many villagers nodded.

Slowly, their hesitation began to fade. They were simple people and while they might not understand cultivation or immortals, they understood one thing. They wanted Little Bull to have the best life possible.

He Jian observed the villagers quietly.

The old immortal had traveled through countless settlements during the last year.

He had seen families force their children toward cultivation in hopes of gaining status. He had seen clans treat talented youngsters as resources. He had seen sects fight over disciples.

Yet the people of Honey God Village were different.

None of them were thinking about benefits. None of them were wondering what rewards they could gain.

They were simply worried about Little Bull.

The old man’s impression of the village improved greatly.

Eventually one of the older villagers stood up.

"If Little Bull really has talent..." he said firmly, "then it should be nurtured."

The others nodded. Another villager spoke.

"We can’t keep him tied to a farming village forever."

"He deserves better opportunities."

"That’s right."

A woman smiled through her tears.

"Maybe one day everyone in the world will know about our Little Bull."

The old village chief laughed.

"Then we’ll tell everyone he used to steal honey cakes from our kitchens."

Little Bull immediately protested.

"I didn’t steal!"

"You absolutely did."

"You ate mine three times."

"I don’t remember stealing."

The young man scratched his head.

"I guess I was hungry."

The entire village laughed.

Even He Jian found himself chuckling.

The atmosphere became much lighter after that as the decision had been made.

The villagers would let Little Bull go. Not because they wanted him to leave, but because they wanted him to grow.

He Jian finally stepped forward.

His gaze settled upon Little Bull.

The old immortal had actually planned to reveal this later, but after seeing the villagers’ sincerity, he decided to tell them now.

"There is another reason why I wish to bring him with me."

Everyone became attentive.

He Jian pointed toward Little Bull.

"This young man possesses extraordinary talent."

The villagers looked confused.

Some had heard similar things before.

Others simply stared blankly.

The old man continued.

"The strength he possesses is far beyond ordinary mortals."

Several villagers nodded immediately.

That part was obvious.

Everyone knew he was unusual.

"What many of you don’t know," He Jian said seriously, "is that his potential may allow him to become an immortal."

The village became silent.

Completely silent.

Even Little Bull stopped chewing.

The villagers stared.

Then, stared some more.

Eventually someone spoke.

"Our Little Bull?"

He Jian nodded. "The same Little Bull."

The villagers looked at the young man, and Little Bull looked back before he pointed at himself, acting utterly confused to everyone.

"Me?"

The old immortal laughed.

"Yes. You."
