Chapter 3841: Revising Notes
Chapter 3841: Revising Notes
Lin Mu looked at the ten compilations of notes again.
Even with all the knowledge contained within them, Lin Mu had already surpassed every recorded cultivator who had practiced the Three Apertures Invoking Technique. As none of them had reached the stage he had created:
The Essence Meridian Casting Realm.
Lin Mu’s expression grew thoughtful as he recalled his own progress.
The original Three Apertures Invoking Technique had a defined path. Its creators had developed the method to invoke the three apertures and use them to manipulate Immortal Essence in a particular manner.
Every cultivator within these notes had followed that path. Some had modified the circulation. Others had improved the efficiency. A few had created minor extensions that allowed them to gain greater benefits from the technique.
Lin Mu had gone much further... He had created an entirely new stage.
The Essence Meridian Casting Realm transformed the very foundation of the technique and extended its path beyond the limits established by its creators. It was a genuine evolution of the cultivation art.
Lin Mu looked at the mountain of notes and couldn’t help but smile slightly.
"Even if I had these records before, none of them would’ve helped me create the Essence Meridian Casting Realm."
"No," Xukong agreed. "That achievement belongs entirely to you."
Lin Mu knew the value of what he had done.
If he were to submit the improved Three Apertures Invoking Technique to the Immortal Court and allow the Essence Meridian Casting Realm to be examined, the technique would almost certainly be reassessed.
Scholars and cultivation experts would spend years studying the new stage. If they verified its effects and confirmed that other cultivators could reproduce the method, Lin Mu’s improved version could even be enshrined within the official library of the Immortal Court.
That was an honor few cultivators ever achieved.
Entire clans had risen in status because an ancestor created a technique worthy of being recorded by the Immortal Court. Lin Mu had created such an advancement almost accidentally while pursuing his own cultivation.
Still, he had no intention of revealing it right now.
Especially while he was standing inside the Heavenly Stream Guardian Sect disguised as a simple mortal named Little Bull. Lin Mu put the thought aside and moved toward the records concerning the Nether Vitriolic Baptism Art.
These interested him far more at the moment as he had possessed the technique for a long time. Yet he had never practiced it. The reason was painfully simple. He lacked the most important requirement.
A Caustic Nether Spring.
Lin Mu had traveled through several worlds, explored ancient ruins, entered dangerous regions, and encountered countless rare materials. Despite all of that, he had never seen a Caustic Nether Spring.
He had barely even found proper information about one.
Lin Mu opened the first volume of notes.
"Maybe one of them mentions a location." He began reading quickly.
The first cultivator described the preparation process and Lin Mu memorized it. The second recorded the physical changes that occurred during the first baptism. Useful, though it did not help him find a spring.
The third described several medicinal substances that could reduce the damage caused by the Caustic Nether Spring. Lin Mu carefully memorized those too and continued as volume after volume passed through his hands.
Then Lin Mu suddenly stopped.
"Oh?" His eyes focused upon a particular line.
"There is one." Lin Mu immediately began reading more carefully.
The record had been written by a Wild Peak cultivator several thousand years ago.
According to the notes, the cultivator had discovered a Caustic Nether Spring while exploring a region of the Farlands. The location was described in considerable detail, including the nearby mountain ranges, strange geographical formations, and even several dangerous beasts that lived in the area.
Lin Mu felt a hint of excitement, and he turned the page. Almost immediately his expression immediately soured.
"Ugh." Lin Mu leaned back. "The spring had only existed for a limited period."
The cultivator had returned to the same location three hundred years later. The Caustic Nether Spring was gone and there was no trace of it. Even the surrounding Nether Qi had disappeared.
Lin Mu sighed. "So much for that."
"Most Netherworld springs are temporary," Xukong explained. "The connection between the Netherworld and the material worlds is rarely stable. A crack may form for several years or several centuries before closing."
Lin Mu nodded slowly. "What about permanent springs?"
"A permanent Netherworld spring of any type is usually considered a disaster."
Lin Mu raised his brows. "That bad?"
"Think carefully," Xukong replied. "A permanent spring means there is a stable connection between the Netherworld and the material world. Energy will continuously flow through that connection. The surrounding environment will gradually transform. Nether creatures may eventually find the passage. Depending upon the size of the connection, the corruption can spread across continents or even to other worlds."
Lin Mu imagined the consequences.
A permanent Caustic Nether Spring might sound useful to a body cultivator practicing the Nether Vitriolic Baptism Art, though the environment surrounding it would likely become deadly.
"That explains why no sect simply controls one."
"Precisely."
Lin Mu looked back at the notes. "The one they found was in the Farlands too."
He examined the recorded location again. Even if the spring somehow reappeared, reaching the area would be difficult.
"We’re unlikely to come across it anytime soon."
Xukong gave a hum of agreement. Lin Mu continued reading regardless. The location might be useless, though the supplementary information was valuable.
Several cultivators had created medicinal mixtures that protected the eyes and lungs during the baptism. One cultivator had developed a breathing method that prevented excessive Nether Qi from accumulating within the organs. Another had discovered that certain Yin elemental materials could stabilize the Caustic Nether energy temporarily.
Lin Mu memorized everything. "If I ever find a spring, these will save me a lot of trouble."
He returned the final volume to its shelf and moved deeper into the library. Lin Mu spent several more hours examining other techniques. Most were unfamiliar, some focused on strengthening individual organs and others transformed the bones.
Several techniques refined blood until it gained unusual properties. Lin Mu even found one strange cultivation art that required the practitioner to repeatedly shatter their teeth and allow them to regrow.
