Chapter 3880: Antagonizing
Chapter 3880: Antagonizing
Seeing the bickering Little Bull quietly blinked. ’...They really don’t like each other.’
Xukong gave a soft chuckle. ’This seems far older than today’s incident.’
Lin Mu agreed as the exchange lacked the anger of strangers. It sounded more like two people who had argued for years and had never found a reason to stop.
Little Bull slowly raised a hand. "High Elder..."
Neither man paid him any attention.
Taegong looked directly at High Elder Shatter Peak. "You have brought a suspicious individual into one of the Peak’s restricted treasuries."
"I brought no one."
"Then explain his presence."
"He climbed a tree."
Taegong’s eyelid twitched. "You truly expect me to accept that answer?"
The High Elder shrugged. "It happens."
"It does not."
"It clearly did."
Taegong let out a quiet breath. "You have become even more unreasonable."
"And you’ve become even more unpleasant." The exchange continued with complete seriousness.
Lin Mu could now understand why Taegong had reacted so differently compared to everyone else on the Peak.
The man simply did not fit the atmosphere of the Wild Peak. The other elders laughed, they sparred and they argued over trivial things before sharing meals together. Meanwhile Taegong carried himself more like a strict law keeper than a body cultivator.
Rules came first, explanations came later and the treasury came before everything else.
High Elder Shatter Peak finally sighed. "Enough."
He turned toward Little Bull. "Throw him your disciple token."
Little Bull immediately nodded. "Okay."
He removed the token from his waist before tossing it toward the High Elder.
Without even looking, High Elder Shatter Peak casually caught it before flicking it toward Taegong. "There. Inspect it yourself."
Taegong caught the token with one hand and produced a jade slip with the other.
SHUA
The jade slip glowed and several formation runes emerged around the disciple token as the treasury’s verification array connected with the sect records. Lin Mu watched with interest as the jade slip displayed several lines of information.
Disciple Name: Little Bull.
Peak: Wild Peak.
Status: Inner Disciple.
Taegong continued reading as his brows slowly furrowed before sinking even deeper.
He looked up. "There is no authorization."
High Elder Shatter Peak frowned. "What?"
"The treasury records contain no permission for this disciple." Taegong held up the jade slip. "His credentials possess no authorization whatsoever."
Little Bull blinked. "Oh."
Lin Mu genuinely found that interesting. Apparently the entrance barrier had truly opened on its own.
High Elder Shatter Peak walked closer. "Let me see."
Taegong turned the jade slip toward him and the large elder read it.
His expression slowly shifted from confidence into confusion. "That is strange."
"So..." Little Bull looked between them. "I’m allowed in?"
"No."
"Then..."
"I’m not?"
The High Elder rubbed his forehead. "No."
Little Bull tilted his head. "I don’t understand."
Neither did High Elder Shatter Peak and the large man looked back at Taegong. "That still doesn’t make him an intruder."
Taegong’s eyes sharpened. "It proves precisely the opposite."
"No."
"It proves his authorization does not exist."
"It proves the formation opened anyway."
Taegong’s expression grew colder. "And how exactly does that happen?"
Silence followed as nobody answered. Taegong slowly looked toward Little Bull, his gaze became increasingly suspicious.
"A newly recruited disciple."
"No authorization."
"No record."
"The vault barrier opens."
His voice became sharper with every sentence. "You expect me to believe this happened naturally?"
High Elder Shatter Peak answered immediately. "Yes."
Taegong scoffed. "I expect something far more realistic."
His eyes locked onto Little Bull. "He used some nefarious means."
Little Bull immediately shook his head. "I don’t know any nefarious means. Or what nefarious means."
Taegong ignored him completely. Instead, he suddenly raised one hand as several seals rapidly formed.
SHUA SHUA SHUA
Lin Mu immediately sensed the treasury formations responding and the walls lit up. Ancient runes awakened throughout the cavern while the entire treasury vibrated softly. And a few moments later hundreds of glowing chains emerged from the surrounding formations.
They resembled silver illusions woven from countless runes and before Lin Mu could react, they shot toward him.
CLANG!
CLANG!
CLANG!
The chains wrapped around both arms, another locked around his waist, two more bound his legs and one wrapped across his chest. Little Bull found himself completely restrained within seconds.
The chains carried no actual weight but the formations behind them did. Every attempt at movement immediately activated the surrounding arrays. Lin Mu could certainly break them, that was never in question.
But doing so would reveal far too much.
High Elder Shatter Peak’s eyes widened.
"Taegong!" His voice thundered through the cavern. "What exactly do you think you’re doing?"
Taegong calmly looked toward him. "Investigating."
"You call this investigating?"
"I call it restraining a suspicious individual."
"He is my disciple."
"He is a suspicious individual."
High Elder Shatter Peak took a heavy step forward. "You mean to offend me?"
Taegong actually let out a laugh that lacked warmth. "As though I have ever done otherwise."
For the first time since Lin Mu had entered the Wild Peak... High Elder Shatter Peak genuinely became angry.
The cheerful elder disappeared as his broad shoulders tensed and the surrounding air seemed to grow heavier.
HUALA!
His vitality surged.
"You..." He slowly raised one enormous hand. "I have tolerated enough from you."
Taegong remained completely unmoved and instead of retreating... He smiled faintly.
Then he pressed one palm against a nearby stone pillar as the treasury formations erupted.
GONG LONG
Golden light burst from every direction and before High Elder Shatter Peak’s raised hand could descend, enormous barriers appeared around him. The barriers stacked over one another like countless transparent cages.
High Elder Shatter Peak found himself trapped inside.
The elder stared at the barriers for half a breath.
Then...
BOOM!
His fist smashed into the nearest layer making it shatter instantly.
A second immediately replaced it.
BOOM!
Another shattered.
Then another appeared.
The treasury arrays continuously reconstructed themselves faster than High Elder Shatter Peak could destroy them. The entire cavern echoed with deafening impacts while Taegong calmly watched the scene.
"I possess authority over this treasury."
Another barrier shattered.
"I also possess authority over every defensive array within it."
A third exploded.
"You may hold the title of High Elder."
A fourth barrier cracked apart.
"That grants you many privileges."
A fifth shattered.
"It does not grant you the right to interfere with my responsibilities."
