Zhenyu had entered the Mad Demon Depths when he was barely three thousand years old, reading which Lin Mu became silent.

"He was barely three thousand years old and already at that cultivation level." A sigh escaped him.

Three thousand years might sound incredibly long to mortals, yet in the Immortal realm it could still be considered a relatively young age for an expert who had the potential to reach higher realms.

Zhenyu had possessed enormous talent and his lifespan still had considerable room left. If he had remained in the Wild Peak and continued cultivating normally, there was a very good chance that he could have reached the peak of the Immortal realm.

Perhaps he could even have crossed the threshold into the Transcendent Immortal realm. Instead, he had chosen to gamble everything and Lin Mu could understand the temptation.

The stronger a cultivator became, the more they realized how enormous the world was. Reaching the Fifth Tribulation stage might have seemed extraordinary to everyone around Zhenyu, yet to Zhenyu himself, it probably felt insufficient.

He had seen stronger people, he had encountered greater inheritances, he had heard stories about ancient experts, he wanted to reach those heights faster and that impatience had brought him here.

Lin Mu shook his head. "Greed can make even geniuses foolish."

He continued examining the records.

The cultivation techniques Zhenyu had used were listed in considerable detail. Some were techniques that Lin Mu recognized as Wild Peak inheritances, while others were clearly techniques the elder had obtained from various encounters throughout his life.

There were also detailed notes about modifications. Zhenyu had spent centuries comparing different techniques and studying how their principles interacted. Then Lin Mu found one particular entry.

His eyes immediately sharpened. "Shifting Earth, Churning Sea Dual Refinement Art?"

He read the name again and this time, genuine interest appeared in his eyes as the technique was unusual.

It was a cultivation method that combined body cultivation and Qi cultivation into a single system. According to Zhenyu’s records, the original technique had existed as two incomplete sections within the Wild Peak.

One portion focused primarily on refining the body through earth related principles. The other focused on refining Qi through water and sea related principles. Individually, neither portion was complete.

Several generations of disciples had examined them, and most had eventually abandoned the idea of cultivating them because the missing sections made the cultivation path extremely unstable.

Zhenyu had apparently been fascinated by the technique anyway. He had recognized that the two incomplete portions were actually designed to complement each other. Earth represented stability while water represented movement.

The body required the solidity of earth while Qi required the flexibility and circulation associated with water. The original creator had apparently intended the two paths to advance together.

The problem was that the missing portions made the balance almost impossible to maintain. Zhenyu had spent years studying the fragments. Then the Mad Demon Depths had given him something he could never have obtained in the outside world.

’Time.’ Lin Mu knew.

The old man had thousands upon thousands of days in which he had nothing else to do. He had analyzed the technique repeatedly and he had compared its principles with the changes occurring inside his own body as the longevity formation drained his vitality.

He had studied the spatial environment around him. He had even incorporated some of the insights he gained from connecting with the Mad Demon formation. Eventually, he had succeeded in reconstructing the missing principles.

Lin Mu’s eyes slowly widened as he continued reading.

Zhenyu had created his own version of the technique. The Shifting Earth, Churning Sea Dual Refinement Art had become his primary cultivation method. And the more Lin Mu read, the more impressed he became.

Zhenyu had essentially taken two incomplete cultivation techniques that generations of Wild Peak disciples had considered unusable and reconstructed them into a unified system. The technique allowed the body and Qi cultivation to reinforce each other.

Body refinement created a stronger vessel. Qi refinement strengthened the body’s internal circulation. Earth Dao stabilized the physical foundation and Water Dao allowed Qi to circulate through the body with greater flexibility.

When properly cultivated, each breakthrough strengthened both paths simultaneously.

Lin Mu’s fingers tightened slightly around the jade token. "This guy really was talented."

For all his complaints, grudges and ridiculous gossip, Zhenyu had possessed genuine ability. Lin Mu could now understand why the Wild Peak had eventually been forced to give him the position of Junior Elder.

He had been too talented to ignore and had accumulated too many merits. Plus, judging from the information stored within the token, his understanding of cultivation had only continued improving after entering the Mad Demon Depths.

Lin Mu continued scrolling through the records finding a lot more information about cultivation such as diagrams of meridian routes, descriptions of body tempering methods, experiments with different energies and there were even records of failures.

Zhenyu had apparently destroyed several of his own cultivation foundations while experimenting with the technique before finally stabilizing it. Lin Mu studied those failures carefully. He found that many of the elder’s mistakes were caused by trying to force the body and Qi to advance at the same pace. Eventually, Zhenyu had realized that the two did not need identical progression.

They needed balance and that distinction allowed him to complete the technique. Lin Mu became increasingly absorbed. He had originally intended to look through the jade token for information about the Mad Demon and the Wild Peak.

Now he had unexpectedly found a cultivation technique that might possess considerable value. He did not immediately decide to cultivate it as he had his own techniques. Instead, he memorized the structure and principles.

His own cultivation path was already highly complicated, and adding another complete cultivation system without careful consideration could cause unnecessary problems. Still, the technique itself was worth studying.

Lin Mu opened another section as more information appeared. Zhenyu had continued modifying the technique even after completing it. He had recorded different versions too, one of which focused on improving body refinement while another improved Qi circulation.

A third version even attempted to integrate spatial principles!
