Chapter 3999: Proving His Identity

Chapter 3999: Proving His Identity

The final explosion erupted outward and every remaining defensive barrier shattered simultaneously.

CRACK~CRACK~CRACK!

The disciples were thrown backward and several elders immediately rushed to catch those who were closest to the blast. A few moments later, the brilliant light vanished and silence descended.

For a moment, nobody moved while dust drifted through the air and pieces of stone fell from the sky. The plains had been completely transformed. At the center of the battlefield, Lin Mu and Daoist Bone Ruler stood several dozen meters apart.

Lin Mu slowly lowered his fist.

His hand was completely unharmed. The muscles across his arm remained firm and prominent, veins visible beneath the skin. There was not even a scratch. He flexed his fingers once and then he looked toward Daoist Bone Ruler.

A familiar arrogant smile returned to his face. "Humph."

Daoist Bone Ruler looked considerably different as his robes were disheveled and covered in dust. His breathing was uneven and a faint trail of blood had appeared at the corner of his mouth.

He had been clenching his teeth throughout the collision so forcefully that even his gums had begun bleeding. He slowly wiped the blood away but his gaze remained fixed upon Lin Mu. For several breaths, he said nothing.

The elders watching could hardly believe what they were seeing. ’He’s bleeding!’

Daoist Bone Ruler had suffered an injury. It was minor compared to what ordinary Immortals would have endured from such a clash, yet the fact itself was shocking. After all, the Head of the Law Divisions had fought with his full strength.

His Peak Immortal Weapon had been brought into the battle. He had unleashed the power of a Transcendent Immortal. And Lin Mu had stopped it with his fist. As such Daoist Bone Ruler’s expression became complicated.

"You..." His voice was hoarse. "Who are you?"

The question carried something different now.

Earlier, it had been mere suspicion, but now there was genuine uncertainty. Daoist Bone Ruler had built his entire understanding of the situation around one possibility: The man before him was an imposter.

Perhaps a prisoner had escaped. Perhaps someone had obtained a powerful concealment treasure. Perhaps some unknown expert had studied Junior Elder Zhenyu’s history and constructed a false identity.

Yet the battle had destroyed the foundation of that assumption.

If this man were an imposter, where had such an expert come from? How had he infiltrated the Heavenly Stream Guardian Sect? How had he entered the Mad Demon Depths? How had he acquired such extraordinary physical strength?

And how had he managed to fight a Transcendent Immortal directly?

Daoist Bone Ruler was certain that no ordinary prisoner within the Mad Demon Depths could possess such strength. The prison had existed for countless years and its restrictions were severe. Its prisoners were monitored and even its environment was hostile to cultivation.

Nobody could simply spend a few thousand years inside and emerge as a Transcendent level existence without leaving some trace. The absence of a Transcendent Tribulation remained particularly troubling.

Daoist Bone Ruler stared at Lin Mu. "Even if you were an imposter, there is no way someone of your strength could have infiltrated the sect."

Lin Mu raised an eyebrow.

Daoist Bone Ruler continued, "And no prisoner from the Mad Demon Depths could have grown this powerful without being detected."

Lin Mu smiled. "Still trapped inside your own assumptions, junior."

Daoist Bone Ruler’s eyes narrowed.

Lin Mu folded his arms. "I already told you who I am."

His voice became louder. "This old man’s name is Mengli Zhenyu."

He pointed toward himself. "Junior Elder of Wild Peak."

Then his expression became proud. "The creator of the Shifting Earth, Churning Seas, Dual Refinement Art!"

Daoist Bone Ruler stared at him. "Impossible."

Lin Mu’s eyebrow rose.

Daoist Bone Ruler continued, "That technique was never completed."

Several elders immediately looked toward one another as the statement surprised them. They had heard of the technique. The Shifting Earth, Churning Seas, Dual Refinement Art was an ancient body and Qi cultivation technique associated with Junior Elder Zhenyu.

Yet according to the records, it had never been completed.

Lin Mu smiled. "Is that so?"

He slowly spread his arms. "Then watch carefully."

WOOONG!

A deep hum emerged from within his body.

Then another.

WOOONG!

The sound resonated across the battlefield as Lin Mu’s Earth Core began revolving and his Water Core followed. The two elemental cores accelerated inside his body until they seemed to become miniature worlds of their own.

Immortal Qi surged outward.

This time, Lin Mu was no longer relying upon his passive control over earth and water. He unleashed the true power of his elemental cores and the change was immediate as the atmosphere around him transformed.

An enormous crimson lake appeared around his body. It stretched outward across the plains, composed of concentrated Immortal Essence mixed with terrifying vitality. The elders immediately felt their expressions change.

The Man Peak elders were particularly stunned.

"What kind of vitality is that?"

"This is..." One of them swallowed. "Peak Head level."

The others looked at Lin Mu with renewed disbelief while the aura around him continued expanding. Lin Mu’s body seemed to become the center of an enormous natural phenomenon.

The crimson lake surged and its waves moved around his feet. His Earth Core and Water Core continued revolving at tremendous speed.

Lin Mu had never truly cultivated the Shifting Earth, Churning Seas, Dual Refinement Art. Sure, he had studied it and understood its principles, but he had not actually mastered it. Still, Lin Mu had a massive advantage.

His own elemental cores had already surpassed those principles by a considerable margin. In fact, the power he could produce was far superior to what the real Shifting Earth, Churning Seas, Dual Refinement Art could ever bring.

As such, the technique was therefore easy for him to reproduce.

He simply needed to give the elders what they expected to see.

Lin Mu’s eyes gleamed. "Since you doubt this old man’s words, then let this old man show you."

He raised one hand and the world answered.
