Weakest Beast Tamer Gets All SSS Dragons

Chapter 1139 - Taming the Wall - Automation

Chapter 1139 - Taming the Wall - Automation

Another month quietly slipped by.

Ren had finally received the long-awaited feedback from Selphira regarding his leadership progress, and it had been profoundly and genuinely unexpected.

She had cornered him during one of his subterranean fusion practices, and she hadn't delivered a single piece of heavy criticism. She also didn't offer a multi-step political doctrine.

She simply told him, with a strange, amused warmth in her ancient eyes, that he shouldn't change a single thing. She explicitly ordered him to continue being exactly who he was.

But what had truly thrown him completely off balance was her final, casual decree: he now possessed absolute, unquestionable clearance to drop the "Red Pathfinder" alias and use his real name on the Wall whenever he felt like it. He was granted free rein to manage his designated sector entirely as he saw fit.

She even added that, if he managed to flawlessly automate his sector's entire defensive grid, he was free to vanish into the outer rings for even longer periods to do whatever he wanted with his time… Just bring someone as support as always.

Apparently, he had somehow passed Selphira's test with the highest possible marks. Whatever the test was.

He didn't even know when he had actually taken the test. He didn't know the grading criteria for "being a great leader", nor did he have the faintest idea what the political consequences of failing it would have been.

But somehow, by blindly fumbling in the dark and obsessively building towers to avoid losing more people, he had accidentally done the exact right thing.

He had spent a long, confused time chewing on that realization.

And because he ultimately still didn't understand the complex aristocratic logic behind it, he decided to do exactly what he always did with abstract problems that didn't require immediate, urgent solutions: he left it alone...

He already had a comfortable routine. He genuinely liked his side of the Wall because nobody treated him with suffocating, terrified reverence. He liked that Garret ruthlessly mocked him when he lost at dice so he could ruthlessly win many times after that. He liked that Dunn casually asked him to pass the canteen without bowing first so he could relax while eating. Revealing that he was Ren Patinder, the legendary monster who had crushed a Diamond beast, would instantly shatter that fragile, normal dynamic.

So, he decided to keep his mouth shut. He didn't tell a single soul on his side of the Wall.

If some sharp-eyed veteran eventually connected the dots on their own, it wouldn't matter that much. But Ren absolutely wasn't going to artificially accelerate that moment just to lose his tiny, peaceful island of normalcy.

The quiet routine continued.

More massive wooden towers sprouted like deadly weeds, steadily pushing further and further out along the perimeter.

Down in the city underground, Ren's fusion practice grew vastly cleaner. He was becoming incredibly comfortable with the three-way Hydra. He could sustain the colossal, Platinum-tier mass for extended periods without feeling any crushing weight on his system now. He was learning to meticulously control the violently swirling internal energy with a precision that had seemed entirely impossible just a few weeks ago.

And up on the surface, his deep-zone explorations were finally nearing an end.

He had almost completely swept the gargantuan Gold 3 ring. Only the sprawling Northern sector remained. It was a massive chunk of territory, but it was just the last 5th fraction of the total zone.

If he didn't unearth the elusive Wood ruin in this final zone after having swept the other zones in the South, Southwest, West and Northwest, he would be forced to completely rethink his search parameters and plunge much deeper underground.

But out there in that underground, beneath the quiet surface, something was shifting.

Ren didn't know it yet. But the long, peaceful calm before the storm was ending today.

And it had been an incredibly long calm. The last few weeks, in particular, had been eerily, uncomfortably quiet. There were absolutely zero mutant attacks in his sector. The corrupted swarms seemed to have completely surrendered, as if the hive mind had finally learned that blindly charging the autonomous towers was just feeding them.

Selthia was no longer extracting any tactical data from the mindless meat-grinder waves. She couldn't even accurately measure the Wall's weak points anymore based on how far the mutants penetrated and how much it took them before dying, because the towers slaughtered them almost instantly. That crude, brute-force method of probing the defenses had become entirely useless to her, so she had completely abandoned it.

But today, the Wall was going to learn a brutal lesson: Selthia absolutely had not surrendered.

She was simply switching to a more refined strategy.

Ren received the urgent flash-report mid-morning.

The Southern zone on Yino's territory was currently under a bizarre, highly irregular attack. The erratic nature of the mutant wave had the entire local garrison on edge.

And critically, due to the current shift rotations, that specific Southern zone didn't currently house a single one of the Vanguard's ultraelite prodigies. Larissa, Liora, Luna, Taro, Min, Liu… None of the Double-Contract Tamers were stationed there.

The sector absolutely wasn't defenseless. It was anchored by Roran's squad, alongside several promising new academy recruits who had also breached the Gold rank.

Roran, despite being a pervert in Ren's personal opinion, was undeniably competent. Furthermore, that specific sector was heavily fortified with a dense cluster of Ren's autonomous towers and heavily upgraded runic bows.

Under normal circumstances, it wasn't a critical weakness. But the phrase "bizarre attack" was exactly the kind of curious anomaly that instantly commanded Ren's undivided attention.

Logistically, it wasn't a massive issue. Roran's Southern zone was geographically the closest adjacent sector to Ren's. He could reinforce them by taking a relatively short, high-speed flight across the rift.

Ren's own sector, meanwhile, was experiencing its usual, mind-numbing "zero action" status. It was another perfectly clear morning without a single mutant in sight. And even if a stray creature did wander close, the towering wooden monoliths were more than capable of handling it.

So, when the report of the bizarre attack in the neighboring sector arrived, Ren's decision was almost automatic. His sector didn't currently need him. Roran's sector might. Furthermore, his own burning curiosity regarding the exact nature of this "bizarre attack" was itching.

Ren casually informed his lieutenant that he had been requested to provide logistical reinforcement in the adjacent area. He confidently left his sector's defense entirely in the wooden hands of the autonomous tower, and launched himself into the sky.

It was exactly the precise maneuver Selthia had been waiting for.
