Chapter 1192 - Taming the Old World - Exiguous - 5

Selphira was furious and initiated the main engagement.

Riding on the back of Sirius's towering light tiger, she launched a catastrophic, freezing shockwave directly into the ground. A massive front of absolute zero ice swept toward the ethereal dome, carrying enough raw output to instantly paralyze the mechanical artifact and the remaining Platinum mutants anchoring the center of the enemy formation.

But Selthia utilized the remaining half of her Platinum phalanx instantly with synchronized movements. She didn't rely solely on the artifact's raw durability... Operating the horde as a single, unified organism, she easily countered with a hyper-dense barrier of fire mana.

The huge wave of ice and the roaring wall of corrupted fire collided in the dead center of the courtyard, mutually annihilating each other in a deafening, blinding explosion of superheated steam.

Hovering just above the clash, Ren analyzed the energy exchange. A cold knot formed in his stomach. He absolutely did not like what he was seeing.

During the initial skirmishes on the outer perimeter, the elemental attacks utilized by the mutants had been mostly mediocre for their Platinum rank. The beasts had only recently acquired the elemental affinities, and the corrupted runic arrays feeding their spells had been relatively crude.

But now, operating under the hyper-dense concentration of the ethereal dome, the mutants' runic buffs were becoming exponentially more complex. Their elemental control was rapidly evolving.

All this was happening too fast...

It was scaling at a rate that was genuinely terrifying. The mutants anchoring the dome weren't just blindly throwing fire anymore; they were actively learning. They were refining their output and Selthia was coordinating their biological hardware with a flawless, hive-mind capacity that they simply hadn't possessed an hour ago.

Sirius immediately recognized the deadlock of elemental warfare and pivoted. He abandoned the elemental advantage chart entirely to try and bypass the dome's reactive defenses.

He seamlessly fused Light and Darkness, his absolute specialty, a volatile, contradictory mixture that virtually no one else on the planet could 'elementally' counter. He fired the devastating, spiraling beam of chaotic energy directly at the mechanical artifact, specifically hunting for a weakness in the back side of the flesh controlling the ancient joints.

Selthia casually parried that execution too. She smoothly interposed one of the indestructible metallic appendages, absorbing the otherwise catastrophic impact without the chassis even flinching.

The artifact possessed too many independent arms, and its reaction time was virtually instantaneous. If the six Tamers didn't strike the chassis with devastating, synchronized force from multiple blind spots simultaneously, it would be near impossible to inflict permanent damage.

And relying on elemental weaknesses was a completely lost cause as long as the Platinum phalanx was actively supporting the artifact. The massive volume of mutated beasts amplified by the ethereal dome possessed a hard counter for every single element on the board. And whatever the mutants couldn't naturally deflect, the indestructible artifacts casually blocked.

So, Ren aggressively shifted the paradigm.

"The tower is still standing," Ren ordered, his eyes rapidly scanning the battlefield geometry. "The structural integrity of the adamantium armor has plenty of margin left. We do not need to actively babysit the castle gates right now. If we cannot punch straight through the center and execute the artifact, we use the left time on the tower to dismantle the smaller mutants first."

He pointed toward the organized ranks of mutants.

"We focus entirely on the Platinum fodder. If we systematically slaughter the herd, the artifact loses its localized elemental defense network. It won't have the bandwidth to deflect wide-area crowd control effects like Selphira's absolute zero. We thin the herd, we cripple the formation, and we strip away its defense."

It was the correct tactical read. They couldn't shatter the impenetrable center, so they had to systematically devour the formation from the weaker edges.

Ren instantly began to accumulate his internal reserves.

His system capacity to safely harbor the primordial dragon energy was superior to the others, and the terrifying volume he was currently holding manifested physically. His aura, usually a blinding, starlight white, visibly expanded and mutated. His eyes burned with an intense jade light, heavily saturated with the golden, primordial power he had extracted from the ruins.

The atmospheric pressure around his body violently warped. The air crackled with intense, localized electrostatic discharges, popping and hissing as if the physical atmosphere itself was struggling to contain the catastrophic output he was generating.

He raised a hand and fired a hyper-condensed bolt of lightning directly at the outermost edge of the Platinum formation.

A deafening thunderclap shattered the air, and a massive Platinum mutant instantly detonated, completely erased from the board in a shower of boiling blood and pulverized bone.

"Liora!" Ren shouted, already aggressively charging a second apocalyptic strike. "Incinerate the rotten biomass with spiritual fire! Right now!"

Liora didn't need an explanation. She moved with blinding speed, hurling a torrent of her unique, soul-burning spiritual flames directly onto the smoking remains of the Platinum beast. The fire aggressively consumed the corrupted flesh before the surrounding mutants could trigger their cannibalization cycle to recycle the lost energy.

Ren continued to bark rapid-fire instructions while his core hummed.

"Selphira, Sirius! Engage your unified fusion and fire the spiral beam simultaneously!"

The two Vanguard legends exchanged a single, grim nod and instantly complied, merging their massive outputs.

"Luna, Larissa! Execute the same maneuver on the right flank!"

The two young women, having already proven they could flawlessly synchronize their diametrically opposed affinities, unleashed a devastating, unified barrage.

The battle blueprint locked into place across the entire strike force simultaneously. Ren and the synchronized pairs would systematically obliterate the Platinum horrors using maximum, concentrated output. Liora would operate as the absolute executioner, instantly vaporizing every single corpse with spiritual fire to ensure the other mutants could never recycle the lost biomass or trigger a power spike.

With every single Platinum beast permanently erased from the board, Selthia's localized defense grid would slowly degrade, until the Vanguard could finally isolate the mechanical artifacts and vaporize the corrupted flesh holding them together.

It was a good plan.

It was a cold, methodical, ruthlessly efficient strategy. It was exactly the kind of disciplined, attritional warfare that was needed.

But deep below the Vanguard, nestled securely in the dark heart of her ethereal dome, Selthia smiled.

She had watched Ren's mind take form in real-time. The exact millisecond Liora had incinerated the first corpse, Selthia understood perfectly what Ren was attempting to do. He wanted to hollow her out from the edges. He wanted to starve her of fuel and win through sheer damage accumulation.

It was a genuinely good plan.

Against the Selthia of yesterday, the one who meticulously hoarded her resources and prioritized safety and the future potential above all else, it might have actually worked.

But the Selthia of today had absolutely not come here to play a long game. She had zero interest in participating in a long war. And while she felt absolutely no immediate panic regarding her massive surplus of real biomass... She was absolutely not going to sit passively in the ground and watch them systematically dismantle her army piece by piece while she played defense.

Not today.

Her smile stretched wider, a terrifying, manic expression in the dark.

The entire corruption, every single beast she had brought to the field, and every single unrevealed trump card she had hoarded for centuries, prepared to completely abandon its defensive posture.

And start the offensive.
