Chapter 228: A Coming Death
Chapter 228: A Coming Death
On another side of the battlefield, one powerful force was tearing their way through all of Liam’s forces.
This powerful force of nature was, of course, the witch of calamity. She used her powerful wind magic to slash the ghouls in half before they could even react.
Around her were bodies, and she stood in the midst of them with a bored expression on her face.
"Damn you, Cassian. Where the hell have you run off to?" she mumbled under her breath.
She was hoping that Cassian didn’t kill the werewolf before she could get a chance to retrieve the mana crystals from him.
Seeing how angry Cassian Veylmont was, she doubted that boy would live long enough for her to get the chance.
’If I can’t get the mana crystals from him, then I’ll have to interrogate that demon that was with him,’ she thought, then sighed heavily.
But that was only as a last resort. Right now, she would try her best to locate the werewolf before anything happened.
Just then, she was dragged out of her daze as she saw a water blade flying towards her out of the corner of her eyes.
She acted instantly, and with a swing of her hand, she created a wind blade to counteract the water blade.
Both attacks collided, resounding in a loud explosion.
BOOM!
The sound rippled through the air. Even those outside Grey Waste could hear the explosion far off in the distance.
Persephone angrily stared in the direction where the attack came from. She saw a beautiful woman with light blue hair.
This woman stuck out her tongue and pulled down her eyelid in a mocking gesture.
A vein bulged in Persephone’s forehead as she moved towards this woman, but before she could even take the first step.
BOOM!
An attack came from the sky, leveling the ground beneath her. She barely dodged the attack in time by using her wind magic to propel herself back.
She floated up in the sky, then landed gracefully a few feet away from the impact. She landed as if her body was as light as a feather.
Her eyes then narrowed at the crater that lay where she stood moments ago. In the middle of the crater, she saw a girl with skin as red as blood and black bat-like wings on her back.
Of course, this woman was Isabella. Her appearance changed due to the effects of the full moon.
Her eyes were glowing orange, the same color of flames. Her irises were slitted, and gazing into her eyes, you got the sense you were staring at a predator. Her eyes, they were exactly like a...
"Drago..." Before she could finish uttering the words, several blood-based attacks came flying at her.
She was forced to dodge all the attacks. She gracefully moved through the attacks like a paper floating in the wind.
Isabella continued to summon orbs of blood, then changed their shapes into sharp daggers.
The daggers were fast, but not nearly fast enough to catch the witch of calamity.
While weaving through the attacks, Persephone fired several wind blades, but they were all canceled out by Selthia’s water blades.
The two worked in sync to try and slow the witch of calamity down, but the witch was too evasive. Even as Isabella flew at her and threw multiple attacks, she still couldn’t be caught.
Meanwhile, Persephone was trapped in a bit of a mental quandary.
She was intrigued by Isabella and her new appearance. The reason for this was because Isabella’s form resembled the creature she was very much obsessed with.
As the head researcher at the lab, she spent all her time researching and studying this creature.
She studied the dragon remains that were left behind. She spent most of her time enduring the powerful mana most couldn’t even inhale.
This had led to a side effect. Glimpses of the past creature’s memories were imprinted on her. She had a vague idea of what this creature looked like.
The orange slitted eyes of these creatures popped up in her dreams constantly.
Looking at Isabella only dug up those memories.
"What are you?" She whispered to herself.
She was half tempted to carry the strange girl back to the lab and do several tests on her, but her priorities lay with the mana crystals.
’Maybe later,’ she mused to herself.
Just as that thought crossed her mind, Isabella once again launched another attack at her. She burst through the air, aiming her fist right at her.
Isabella’s first attack was a punch, but it left a huge crater in the ground. Persephone knew the danger Isabella’s strength posed, so she readied herself to move out of the path of the attack, but just then she felt something latch onto her ankle, stopping her in her tracks.
She quickly glanced down to see what it was.
"Web?"
Persephone was confused, but she didn’t have time to question it as she was still in danger of getting hit by Isabella’s blow.
She readied herself and quickly created a wall of wind to protect herself.
BOOM!
Isabella’s fist impacted with the wall made of wind, and a loud explosion sounded. With it, a strong gust of wind tore through the community.
Both Isabella and Persephone were propelled back by the attack. Isabella used her wings to stabilize herself before she hit the ground, while Persephone severed the web holding her back and steadied herself with her magic to keep from falling.
Her eyes narrowed at Isabella, but before she could make a move, she felt a sharp pain to her stomach.
Before she could react, there was a large gash in her abdomen. Something had clawed her but she didn’t even see what it was. Her eyes darted around frantically, trying to find what or who could’ve done it, but they were fast.
All she saw was a blur and a small aura of blue energy.
SLASH!
This time, her ankle was severed. She fell to her knees, grunting in pain. She didn’t even see what attacked her. Their movements were too fast, too erratic for her to keep up.
While the witch was on her knees, Selthia let out a loud screech causing the witch to covered her ears and fall to the ground, screaming in agony.
She felt as if something was clawing inside her mind.
Just as she lay on the ground curled in agony, Sylvie appeared above her with her claws raised to end the witch’s life.
She didn’t even hesitate and readied to end the witch’s life, but just then...
SWOOSH!
A strong gust of wind knocked her off balance. This strong gust of wind raged and swirled around the screaming witch.
It picked up speed, and soon it caused Selthia’s voice to distort, so the witch was no longer affected by her scream.
In a matter of seconds, it looked as if a small tornado was surrounding the witch. She climbed to her feet with eyes seething with rage.
"Forget experiment, I’ll kill you all?!"
...
"You hear that, Cerberus? It sounds like things are getting lively out there," I said as I continued to stroke Cerberus’s soft black fur.
GRR!
Cerberus bared his fangs and growled softly. Ever since I summoned him, I couldn’t get him to calm down. He knew the danger heading for us, which is why he took a protective stance right in front of me, as if to guard me from whatever was coming.
"I guess he’s also here too. It won’t be long now."
Cerberus and I waited for only a few minutes until we saw a silhouette approaching us.
It appeared like a ghost. One second the streets were empty, the next second he was approaching us.
GRR!!!
Cerberus growled more loudly when he saw the silhouette.
"You’ll get your fill of his blood soon enough, boy." I said as I continued to stroke his black fur.
Soon, the figure was close enough where we could see his face.
’So this is what he looked like.’
His face was wrinkled, which means for a vampire, he was extremely old. If I had to guess, at least 5 thousand years old.
His face was clean-shaven. He wasn’t muscular, but his body was well-toned. His eyes looked almost like dried blood.
His suit seemed well-tailored. I bet it must’ve cost a small fortune. I would say his appearance was more similar to Victor than Allucard.
Allucard must’ve taken after his mother since he had blonde hair.
"So this is what you look like," he said, his voice sounded old and wise.
"Cassian Veylmont, it’s nice to finally meet you," I said smiling.
His expression didn’t change. His bloodlust spoke for him. It showed his rage for him.
His bloodlust felt like gravity pushing me down to the ground. He made no effort to hide it.
He wanted it to be known that he came here to kill me.
"You murdered my son. Destroyed the family I spent years to build. Because of you, I’ll have to start over again. I’ll make sure you die regretting your pitiful existence."
