Chapter 230: The Impact
Chapter 230: The Impact
"So you’re actually a siren," Persephone couldn’t help but crack a smile when she saw Selthia’s new transformation. She almost forgot her earlier anger. So much so that the winds around her began to slow down. As a scientist, Persephone had a natural curiosity about every supernatural creature.
It just so happened that sirens were on the short list of creatures she hadn’t dissected yet. For that reason, she stared at Selthia greedily and licked her lips.
"It looks like this one has unlocked a special bloodline too."
Selthia, on the other hand, couldn’t help but look at the witch with her eyebrows slightly raised. She was able to sense the subtle changes in the witch’s behavior. She could sense that the witch was distracted, so she made a split-second decision to act then and there.
At the tip of her trident, a spiral of ocean-blue water began to form. This spiral looked almost exactly like a drill. Selthia gripped the trident tightly. The weight was almost too much for her to handle, but still she planted her feet and held it with all her might as she willed her magic inside the weapon.
A part of her felt impressed that she could even lift the weapon. Back in Atlantis, the only other person who owned a trident was her mother, and her mother was the only person who could lift the weapon. This was the weapon her mother used to sink countless cities and ships throughout history.
She also knew that the weapon was at its most powerful underwater, where it could draw from the power of the ocean, but it was still a powerful weapon regardless. At this point, Persephone began to sense the danger of the attack. She safely guarded herself in a wind barrier, feeling confident that she could block whatever attack came at her.
Selthia felt the trident begin to vibrate the more magic she put inside. The water at the edge of the trident spun and twisted like a drill. She summoned every ounce of strength she could muster, then in one final push, she released the attack.
The force of the attack sent her flying backwards. It made a soft pop followed by a soft squash sound as the water drill traced its way towards Persephone. Persephone’s wind wall stood strong and ready to intercept the incoming attack.
BOOM!
To Persephone’s shock and disbelief, the attack bulldozed through her defense, sounding a loud explosion. The force was enough to send her flying backwards. The wall of wind and the tornado that surrounded her dispersed at once, sounding the explosion.
Persephone tried desperately to regain her balance, but before she could, she collided into a wall and collapsed onto the ground.
Selthia watched the witch collapse to the ground, and her lips curved up into a satisfying smile. That one attack had taken a lot out of her, but she wasn’t finished yet. She had merely incapacitated the witch for a brief moment. She needed to put her down for good.
The force from her earlier attack almost knocked her off her feet, and the trident was knocked from her grasp. She quickly lifted the trident from the ground and raised it into the air once again. Her translucent blue scales shimmered slightly as she held the weapon and pointed it towards the witch, still lying on the ground.
Immediately, more orbs of water began to form. It gradually grew until it was the size of a pool, then bigger.
Soon, the volume of water hovering in the sky was the size of a small pond. The witch grunted and tried to climb to her feet, which caused Selthia to move even more hastily. She closed her eyes to concentrate, and soon the body of water began to morph.
The large volume of water began to hover and take shape almost like a clay being molded.
"Underneath Atlantis, there is a bottomless pit. We call it Ábyssos. No one knows how deep this pit is, only that our city is covering its entrance. But one thing we do know is that an ancient monster lurks at the bottom of this pit. A monster our ancestors nicknamed the leviathan!"
Selthia continued to mold the liquid molded until it took the form of a giant sea serpent.
"It is said that the leviathan waits for the person who can tame it. In the past countless people came to see who could conquer this creature but all failed. Those who saw it said it looked like a giant sea serpent. It is said that this creature has the power to create cataclysms strong enough to destroy worlds."
As Selthia spoke, the giant water serpent danced through the air, mimicking the movements of a snake. As a little girl, she heard horror stories of this monster and was terrified by them. She wanted to summon the most powerful monster she could think of to defeat the witch, and that monster, the leviathan was the first thing to come to mind. Even now, for some strange reason, she was still terrified of this creature.
She directed the serpent towards the witch, who watched the giant serpent with clear surprise. The serpent burst forward towards the witch of Calamity. For a moment, she succumbed to panic. Seeing such a creature moving towards her at such speed caused her body to go numb for just a second. But she quickly regained her composure and raised her palm towards the incoming creature.
She compressed the air around her into the shape of a ball roughly the size of a basketball. She began compressing the ball, making it more compact until it was the size of a tennis ball. It also began changing color, taking on a bluish hue. Soon, the ball was the size of a pebble.
She held it in the palm of her hand and took a martial stance. Her eyes were locked on the serpent coming towards her.
GRU-GRU-GRU-GRU
The serpent let out a loud noise as if someone was gurgling water. The two were locked for a head-on collision.
BOOM!
The impact sounded like a sonic blast went off. The blast spread out in waves, obliterating buildings and creating a wasteland where a thriving settlement once lived. Luckily, beforehand, all the children and those too weak to fight were relocated into the labyrinth where the lamias once lived.
Selthia watched with her mouth hung open. She watched as the serpent was obliterated and the water used to create it rained from the sky, soaking the ground below. She couldn’t believe what she saw with her own eyes.
At the last second, the witch managed a perfectly placed palm strike, destroying the serpent. Persephone stood soaking wet, her palm still extended. Her eyes locked on Selthia, and soon, the same ball of air began to form in her hand.
Selthia immediately knew what this meant. She raised her trident, pointing it directly at the witch.
In truth, her arms were already tired from wielding the weapon. Before, she was worried about what her appearance would look like, so she never tried this transformation before after she awakened the sea goddess bloodline.
"Dammit, darling wouldn’t have cared what I looked like; I should’ve practiced more," she cursed under her breath, but in the second she took to ponder this thought, the witch of calamity was already upon her.
She was fast. Too fast for her to do anything about the attack, but still she willed herself to fight back. She summoned every strength she could muster and swung the trident at the witch. She saw the small ball in the witch’s hand. The same ball that was used to decimate the water serpent.
The witch nimbly ducked below the attack. Her hand poised for a palm strike against Selthia.
BOOM!
...
Off in the distance, I could hear the sound of loud explosions going off, but I didn’t have time to worry about it.
CRACK!
Another bone was broken as I was sent flying into one of the abandoned buildings, which collapsed upon impact. This one felt like my spine. I knew that since I could no longer feel my legs.
I was bleeding internally. I could tell from the thick clump of blood I coughed up.
’Heal, dammit!’
My wounds were taking too long to heal. It must’ve been because they were caused by him.
"You’re sturdier than most werewolves I’ll give you that. But you’re still weak. How did you ever manage to defeat my son? Was he holding back?" Cassian asked as he strode towards me. "I also heard that my son had found a wife. My wife and I never even got the chance to meet her since I was away on business for a few years, and my wife is always busy with whatever she’s up to."
He stopped in front of me and pressed his foot into my broken ribs. The pain was maddening, but my mouth was too filled with blood for me to let out a sound.
"He even told me his wife was pregnant, which is why I decided to return to the city so early in the first place. Tell me what happened to his wife and his child. I didn’t see their bodies in the mansion. Did you spare them at least? Or did you kill them?"
’I knew it. He never met Allucard’s wife, or else he would’ve known it was actually Aphrodite. I bet the witches only targeted Allucard because Cassian wasn’t here to protect him.’
Cassian was on the edge of releasing all his rage. I could see it in his eyes. All it would take is one more push to send him over.
"Of course, I killed them."
