Chapter 242: Mariah Veylmont
Chapter 242: Mariah Veylmont
Back at the Veylmont mansion, a blonde-haired woman sat on her bed with her legs crossed. Moments ago, she was about to go to bed but heard a knock on the door.
In front of her was her subordinate, which was a Kappa. A Kappa is a type of water spirit with green scaly skin, webbed hands and legs, and a bird-like beak.
It also had a green turtle-like shell on its back. This strange creature bowed before the blonde woman.
"Boss, I’m sorry to interrupt you, but we have a visitor. These two vampires said they wanted to speak with you, and that it was urgent."
Hearing those words, the blonde-haired woman looked up at the two vampires standing behind the Kappa.
These two vampires once served her husband, so they should’ve been groveling at her feet just like the Kappa, but instead, they stood tall with their heads raised.
The first thing that came to mind was that they must’ve been recruited by a noble vampire, but then she realized that the noble vampires were all dead. They were all turned into ghouls.
Together, all the noble vampires had thousands of regular vampires under their control, but for some reason, all those vampires seemed to have disappeared.
She expected them to join the Dracule clan, but most of them didn’t.
This fact caused an unsettling feeling to settle within her stomach.
Something wasn’t right. She could feel it. But she pushed that aside for now and instead focused on the vampires in front of her.
"The two of you used to be a part of our family, did you not?" she asked.
The two vampires didn’t hesitate before answering.
"Yes, we were, but now we’re a part of the Lycann pack."
The woman felt her face twitch when she heard them, a vampire say they are a part of a werewolf pack.
"We have a message for you," the vampires continued.
"For me?"
"Our alpha has defeated your husband. Because of that, he has claim to everything Cassian Veylmont once owned, which includes his mansion or any properties that once belonged to the Veymont Clan."
As the vampires spoke, the blonde-haired woman could feel herself getting visibly angrier by the second.
"Our alpha also claims all the vampires of the Veylmont clan and even the clothes that were once on Cassian’s back. And lastly, our alpha claims his wife..."
The moment the last word left the vampire’s mouth, his head was already in the air, decapitated from the rest of his body.
The vampire standing beside him didn’t even see it happen. He watched his friend’s headless body fall to the ground while spurting blood.
He quickly turned his attention back to the woman, but there she was, sitting on the bed with her legs crossed.
It looked as if she hadn’t moved an inch.
"But how could this be?"
The vampire’s eyes emitted a bright orange glow as he stared at the woman.
This of course caught the woman’s attention. She had never seen a vampire with eyes that weren’t red.
"Mariah Veylmont. If you refuse to cooperate, our alpha will have no choice but to retaliate."
Mariah didn’t even pay attention to the vampire’s threat; she was too absorbed in his orange eyes.
She was so absorbed that she began walking towards him.
The vampire stood guard, ready to attack or defend at any moment. Mariah grabbed his chin and stared into his eyes.
"Tell me about your leader," her eyes glowed bright red as she spoke.
She was trying to compel him. Noble vampires had the ability to compel lesser vampires to do their bidding.
The vampire stared into Mariah’s eyes, but all he could think about was how beautiful she was.
Even though he knew she was dangerous, he couldn’t stop certain thoughts from entering his mind.
But that was just because of how attractive she was. He didn’t feel compelled to tell her anything.
Looking at the lewd gaze of the vampire in front of her, Mariah couldn’t help but feel a bit annoyed.
’Why isn’t my compulsion working? Did that werewolf do something to prevent it?’
Mariah had heard a lot about this werewolf. Mainly that he was the one who killed her husband.
She didn’t believe it at first. She merely thought that it was a trick orchestrated by Damian Dracule.
She suspected that he was the one who killed her husband and made it look as if it was the werewolf.
But the more she heard about this werewolf, the more her opinion began to change.
Mariah didn’t care much about her husband’s death. The two were estranged for years. Neither did she care about her sons who had died. All that mattered to her was her reputation and her place in this city.
The only reason Mariah married Cassian in the first place was because she thought that he could give her a bit of excitement.
Ever since she was young, all she cared about was fighting. She dreamed of a man who could dominate her in combat. It was a secret fantasy of hers.
That is the only reason why she married the great Cassian Veylmont, but he turned out to be a very boring man.
All he cared about was his business and his family. He had little interest in fighting.
Their married life was like a business arrangement. She would have his children, and that was it between them. After they had their last-born son, Victor, they never touched each other again and hardly spoke.
She never got the chance to feel that love and passion she always wanted to experience as a vampire.
All her sexual experience amounted to lying in a dark room with her legs opened, and a minute or two later, she would hear the cold emotionless voice say "It’s done."
She was over 500 years old, and she never even got the chance to experience her first kiss.
But still, she was determined to experience that passion with a man who could dominate her in combat.
That is what led to her obsession with Damian Dracule. She still hoped that he could be that man.
But first, she needed to deal with the werewolf who stole everything from her.
Seeing that her compulsion wasn’t working on the vampire, she turned her back, and immediately as she did, her shadow stood upright, almost like a clone of her.
The vampire looked horrified when he saw this, but before he could even utter a word, he was decapitated.
