Werewolf Leveling: Building the Strongest Pack in the Apocalypse

Chapter 293: Secret Weapon

Chapter 293: Secret Weapon

It was as if a sea of these scaly flying monsters were flying at us. From what I could see, they had scales the same color as murky water, their heads were shaped like a lizard’s, and the way their wings were attached to their arms was similar to a bat’s.

"What are those?" I asked as I stared up at the sky.

"Those are wyverns. This is a code red. There look to be hundreds of them, no, maybe even a thousand. There is still more coming."

They stretched the horizon as far as the eyes could see, traveling in a V shape almost like birds.

If a thousand of those scaly creatures descended on us, I don’t see this vessel surviving. I was certain I could fight them off and protect myself, but I don’t think I can protect the entire ship. Not that I particularly wanted to, but if I didn’t then I would be left drifting aimlessly at sea again.

"We don’t have a choice; we have to use it," Ethan mumbled.

I looked in his direction and sensing my gaze, he explained.

"You remember that secret weapon I told you about; it’s our only way out of this."

I raised an eyebrow.

"What kind of weapon do you have that can take down a thousand wyverns?" I asked skeptically.

"We don’t need to kill all of them. Just a few hundred, and the rest will run away. There has been a spike in wyverns descending on our troops as of recently. Maybe the demon controlling them is close."

"Nice, looks like I didn’t miss the fun."

Hearing a familiar voice, I turned around to see Rizor along with the rest of my squad. They approached us, and Rizor rested his hand over my shoulder, Liz stood at the back and Ava went to stand beside her boyfriend.

"You see that, Liam? That is what we’re against, but they are even scarier on the battlefield. They have this special move we nicknamed the suicide plummet. Those scaly bastards would fly high up into the sky. So high we couldn’t even see them; maybe they reached outer space, maybe they didn’t, I don’t know but when they plummet back down to the ground, it’s like a fucking missile, man." he chuckled.

"That does sound horrifying," I replied.

"Yep. The size of the impact could take out a small town, but we don’t have to worry about that today since we have our secret weapon," Rizor grinned.

I realized when he said the word "weapon," Ava rolled her eyes and seemed a bit bothered by it, but she was the only one. Liz didn’t react or say anything, as usual.

"I’m curious to see this weapon you guys keep boasting about," I said.

"Just wait; you’ll see it’s just a matter of time," Rizor replied. He looked as if he was enjoying the situation.

We waited and watched the sea of wyverns etch closer to us. Just as I was about to question the sanity of the group I was standing with, I heard something. It sounded like chains.

"Speaking of the devil."

Rizor did an exaggerated gesture as if he was the announcer at a boxing match.

"Welcome to the lady of the hour and our beautiful weapon of mass destruction... Therissa."

My eyes naturally drifted to the weapon Rizor was referring to, and once again, I was caught completely off guard.

The first thing I noticed was her hair, which looked as if someone had melted silver and woven it into small strands. Next was her amethyst-colored eyes, which felt as if I was staring at a galaxy. And finally, what also drew me in was her pointed ears.

Their weapon was a girl?

Her looks were otherworldly, which reminded me of Khalissi. She wore a long white dress that accentuated her shapely figure. Both her hands and legs were shackled as she was marched to the front of the deck to face the incoming horde of wyverns.

Behind her were two guards positioned with weapons, but for some reason, even though she was shackled and was being treated like an object, she still wore a calm and composed smile on her face.

Now she definitely reminded me of Khalissi even more.

"Who is she?" I asked, turning to Rizor for answers.

"Didn’t you hear? She’s our weapon," he said, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world, which caused Ethan to answer my question.

"She’s a powerful elf. After the demons, more races began popping up into our world. We managed to capture her a few months ago. Since then, we’ve been using her kind of like a weapon. Her name is Therissa," Ethan explained.

I watched as Therissa stood in front of the wave of wyverns and raised her hand, the shackles on her wrist clinking softly.

As she raised her delicate hands, I could see frost pouring from her fingertips until it began to form a circular ball. She was also muttering in a strange language until she suddenly stopped.

For a moment, nothing happened. In fact, the frost from her fingertips faded, and everything suddenly went quiet until I felt Rizor redirect my head to the sky.

"Stop watching her ass and take a look up there."

That’s when I finally saw it.

There were thick spikes just above the sea of wyverns. These spikes seemed to be made out of ice, and each was thick and long, maybe the size of a semi-truck.

The massive spikes rained down from the sky and impaled the wyverns before they could fly any closer to us. One by one, the creatures fell from the sky as they were impaled.

There must’ve been over a hundred killed in one single attack. Soon, what Ethan predicted did come true. The other wyverns retreated the moment they saw how few of them were killed.

Immediately, a wave of cheer erupted as the soldiers celebrated their victory.

At the same time, the ship began picking up speed, heading towards the wyverns who were retreating and the ones falling from the sky. Curious as to what was happening, I turned to Ethan for answers, but just then, the captain’s voice rang out through the speaker.

"Now is not the time to celebrate; we must retrieve as many wyvern corpses as possible. I don’t need to tell you how important this is for our operations."

Immediately as the captain spoke, the cheers settled down, and I looked around to see if I spotted the elf, who was now gone from the edge of the deck.

Eventually, I saw her being escorted back to her holding chambers by a group of soldiers.

That power she just used...

I’m certain it was magic.

At that moment, I made up my mind.

"I’m going to get her to teach me how to use magic."
